Glebe Cottage is located in the Kirkton of Glenisla, which is surrounded by beautiful scenery on the edge of the Cairngorm National Park. The cottage is within easy access of Glenshee, Kirriemuir, Blairgowrie and Alyth.

The cottage is within one hour drive of Dundee or Perth and is an ideal base for visiting Perthshire, Angus, Fife and the Highlands. Whether a young family, group of friends, or a couple, there is something for everyone in this location.


Local towns for attractions such as museums, sightseeing, supermarkets, shops, pharmacy, doctor, dentist and swimming pools are easily accessible.

Alyth (10 miles), Blairgowrie (15 miles), Kirriemuir (13 miles), Forfar (17 miles), Coupar Angus (17 miles), Pitlochry (24 miles), Dunkeld (26 miles), Braemar (27 miles), Brechin (29 miles).

The nearest cities are Dundee (25 miles), Perth (29 miles), Stirling (67 miles), Aberdeen (67 miles), Edinburgh (72 miles), Glasgow (94 miles), Inverness (110 miles).


Kirriemuir “The wee red toon”, birthplace of JM Barrie (creator of Peter Pan), sits looking south towards Glamis and the Sidlaws over Strathmore (one of the most fertile fruit growing areas in Scotland). Local amenities include a small supermarket, swimming pool, health centre, some small cafés, takeaways and an 18-hole golf course with views north to Glen Clova and Glen Doll. There is a small independent garage with a petrol station, a bank and post office.

Alyth is a village with some small grocery shops, bank and post office. In the environs of Alyth there are 3 golf courses. A golf club was first established in Alyth in 1894. The original nine-hole course was designed by Old Tom Morris of St. Andrews and was modified and extended to 18 holes by James Braid in 1934. A further two clubs have opened since, the Strathmore Golf Centre (1986) with an 18 and a 9 hole course and the Glenisla Golf Club in 1992.

Blairgowrie is one of Perthshires’ larger towns (population 8000) and has a large Tesco supermarket and petrol station as well as a number of shops cafés and restaurants and swimming pool. There is a cottage hospital with a minor injuries unit and health centre.

Forfar is a busy market town in Angus. There are 2 large supermarkets and a busy high street. Amenities include a petrol station, shops, swimming pool, cafes, ice rink and golf course.


GOLF - Golf is abundant on this Angus / Perthshire border with Glenisla (website: hidden), Alyth (website: hidden), Strathmore (website: hidden), Rosemount (website: hidden) and Kirriemuir (website: hidden) all within 30 minutes drive.

Carnoustie (website: hidden) , Gleneagles (website: hidden) (hosting the Ryder Cup ) and the Fife golf clubs of St Andrews (website: hidden) , Kingsbarns, the Old Course, Balcomie and Elie are also within easy reach for a day trip.

SKIING - Skiing is available at Glenshee Ski Resort (16 miles) offering the UK's most extensive skiing and snowboarding facilities with an impressive 22 lifts and 36 runs offering an amazing diversity of natural terrain for all standards of skiers and snowboarders. Glenshee Ski Centre is the largest ski resort in Scotland and is sometimes referred to as the Scottish three valleys. (website: hidden)

CATERAN TRAIL - Glenisla is a paradise for hikers and mountain bikers with the circular Cateran Trail passing by the cottage door. The Trail is a fully way marked walk of 64 miles (103 km) and it takes its name from the feared cattle thieves who raided the rich lands of Strathardle, Glenshee and Glen Isla. The neighbouring Angus glens of Glen Clova, Glen Prosen, Glen Doll and Glen Esk also offer numerous Munros and trails. (website: hidden)

HORSE RIDING - Horse riding at nearby Glenmarkie Riding Centre (4 miles). Enjoy trekking, lessons, hacks and pony camps surrounded by breathtaking scenery. You can even bring your own horse. (website: hidden)

FISHING - Fishing Excellent salmon river and trout loch fishing is on offer in numerous locations nearby. Permits can be bought for Lintrathen Loch (5 miles) (website: hidden) which is boat fishing only and is stocked on a regular basis with both brown and rainbow trout. The Backwater, situated higher up the glen gives the purist a chance to fly fish the banks for wonderful wild brown trout Both lochs are regularly visited by clubs and individual anglers and Lintrathen has been a venue for the Commonwealth Championship. SIGHTSEEING & CASTLES - Castles are a plenty in this area. Glamis Castle (website: hidden), birthplace of the Queen Mother is a short distance and is an excellent day out. Balmoral Castle (website: hidden), Blair Atholl Castle (website: hidden) and Scone Palace (website: hidden) are also worth a visit.

CHILDREN - Having 4 young children of their own the owners have lots of ideas on how to entertain kids while staying at the cottage.

A play park is available within 1 minutes walk with swings, slide, football pitch and access for a supervised paddle in the River Isla and there are many walking and cycling trails suitable for children in the glen. Children & young babies are VERY welcome here.

Most equipment for babies such as a high chair, changing mat, bath rest, potty, fireguard, and swing-chair etc, is available on request as are a selection of indoor and outdoor toys and DVDs. Please contact the owners who will be happy to discuss requirements in advance. Cot linen & 2 travel cots are also available on request and there is space for a max of 4 adults & 2 babies.
