Parker House, National Register of Historic Places
Description from the owner
Have you ever stayed at a wonderful old B&B; or country inn and wished you & your family could have it all to yourselves? Now you can! We're pleased to offer historic Parker House in Blue Hill for the 2015 summer rental season.
The house boasts an immaculate retro-design kitchen with painted bead-board and gleaming subway tile. The south-facing space is sunny and well-stocked with appliances & utensils for cooks and coffee lovers. Ample work areas include a large farmhouse sink and separate prep sink, making group meal preparation a pleasure.
With interest in organic and locally-grown food burgeoning, we'd like to point out that Blue Hill is home to a first-rate Co-op and to growers selling fresh produce either onsite or at a weekly farmer's market. (Our guests enjoy complimentary Co-op membership.)
The kitchen opens onto a forty-foot space made from two of the house's four original downstairs rooms. These include the former kitchen, now the dining area, with its massive fireplace & beehive oven, original iron fittings and antique pewter on the mantel. The living area has a large Hearthstone wood stove for gatherings on chilly August or September evenings. (All bedrooms have working fireplaces but the one in the dining room is currently decorative only.)
The front hall leads to our formal front parlor and up to the bedroom floor. The bedrooms are large enough to serve as bed-sits, great for those who want privacy, but convivial early risers will appreciate the separate east-facing upstairs sitting area from which the sun's rays can be seen hitting the summit of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia, the first place they touch the east coast. (We hope the tantalyzing glimpse inspires you to drive over to take a closer look).
One of the best things about staying at Parker House is our proximity to Barncastle, a popular pub and restaurant a short walk in the direction of town. We're proud of our connection to Barncastle's builders, founders of Blue Hill's summer colony, and are sure you'll appreciate the family-friendly atmosphere its new owners have created. We also hope you enjoy the atmosphere of our house, of course! Attendees of the recent house tour celebrating Blue Hill's 250th anniversary certainly did. We're still aglow from all the great feedback. Your feedback will be much appreciated too should you choose to write a review after your stay.
A one-bedroom apartment currently occupied by a resident caretaker may be available for rent in future seasons, either separately or in tandem with the main house. (Refer to floor plans in the photo section to see which parts of the house are included in the rental.)
We're very excited that it is possible for us to continue this new phase in the life of our old house, which began its third century in 2012. We're in a great town in a part of Maine justly famous for its natural beauty and cultural & recreational opportunities. If we say so ourselves, our house is kind of a landmark (it's on a well-traveled road) and we look forward to sharing it with more people who either already know Blue Hill or have never been here before....Read more

Additional notes from the owner
We'll take the cost of one night's rental off your bill if you book before June 13th; if you book more than one consecutive week we take two nights off the cost of each week's rental (a one-week-free discount is already figured into the monthly rate). Pets are considered, but we also need to keep in mind the needs of non-pet-owning guests who may follow you. We will add a $120 fee if we are satisfied that previous rental experiences with your pet have gone smoothly enough for us to agree to have your pet join you. We are located next door to a vet and local short-term boarding may be arranged.
