The Goat Rock House sits on a bluff along the Sonoma Coast and is uniquely located inside Goat Rock Beach Park, more than one mile west of Highway 1. Our house is about 1 hour and 45 minute drive (73 miles) north of San Francisco and the Golden Gate Bridge; 4 miles south of Jenner; 10 miles north of Bodega Bay; and only 5 minutes south of the Russian River Bridge.
As you drive down the winding road and rock formations towards the sandy beaches of the Pacific Ocean, near the mouth of the Russian River, you know that you have arrived at a special place. Our house is one of a small handful of homes that are grandfathered in the State Park and blessed by the park's sweeping panorama of the Pacific Ocean and status as a natural reserve.
The 3-bedroom house fronts a small road on a spectacular 1 acre oceanfront lot. As you enter the driveway, you will be struck by the sense of privacy offered by the Cypress and Pine trees that border the land. From the living room and kitchen windows, enjoy an exclusive front-row seat and 180 degree view of Arch Rock – the dramatic rock formation that photographers frequently use to typify the natural beauty of the Sonoma Coast. As you turn to the southern, western, and northern windows, you will be mesmerized by the park's surroundings, its peacefulness, and the signature of Goat Rock that endears visitors year round, the incredible panoramic views of the Pacific coastline.
With the Pacific Ocean and Russian River at its base, this house and its surroundings have something for everyone. Relish a cup of coffee or glass of wine on the deck, enjoy the tranquility offered by the ocean's panorama or revel in the activities offered by the park's rugged trails, beaches, and river terrains. The house is within walking distance to two beaches directly below: (1) Blind Beach where the Kortum Trail begins and (2) Goat Rock Beach as defined by the isthmus and the mouth of the Russian River.
We are less than an hour's drive to the award winning Pinot Noir vineyards of the Russian River back country, the new appellation of Fort Ross, and the town of Healdsburg. Whether you choose to do a little or a lot, you will find yourself coming back to Goat Rock.
This 1,000 square feet home has an open floor plan for the kitchen, dining, and living room areas. The house can accommodate up to 6 people comfortably. State-certified well water (very drinkable) is trucked to the house for storage and use. All rooms are situated on a single level. There are 5 steps leading from the driveway to the wrap-around deck that surrounds three sides of the house. The house has tile flooring throughout and furnished with craftsman-style décor and a blend of modern. The kitchen is fully equipped, with commercial faucet and gas stove. New counter-height dining table and waterfall seats ideal for staring at the ocean. The beds and pillows are covered by quality linens and allergen-proof liners. Gas BBQ and bar-height tables on the deck. Complimentary load of firewood for use in the large, brick fireplace for times when the coast is foggy, cold, and windy.
Enjoy complimentary use of TWO tandem kayaks, each large enough to hold 2 people and a small dog or child. Enjoy bird-watching, canoeing, and fishing (upriver from Russian River Bridge). October begins the small Steelhead run; November begins the larger Steelhead run that would continue to April. From mid November through April begins the whale migration to the south.
WILDLIFE AND ACTIVITIES (INSIDE PARK)
The Goat Rock State Park is located more than a mile west of Highway 1, far from the glare of ambient lights, and separated from the small town of nearby Jenner by both the Russian River estuary and the Goat Hill peninsula. As a result, on a clear night, the house offers some of the darkest night skies and unbelievable opportunities for star gazing and night photography.
Besides its two beaches, the Goat Rock State Park offers many miles of walking trails, including the Kortum Trail and the western section of the Pomo Canyon Trail. These trails lead you to ocean vistas, wind-swept grasslands, wild life and faunas. The unique rock formations along the Kortum Trail near the park's entrance are used by rock climbers for a wide variety of climbing challenges.
The Park has also earned the distinction as a wildlife refuge -- home to a variety of migrating birds and, between mid-February and August, a colony of quiet, state-protected harbor seals and their nurseries. During weekends, the small road in front of the house can be popular as visitors drive to the estuary. When the park closes at sunset, relish the privacy that only a state park preserve can provide. Turn off the lights, step onto the front deck and hear the roar of the ocean below. On a clear night, see the shimmers of a dark night sky stretch across the ocean's horizon.

ACTIVITIES OUTSIDE PARK
Outside of the Park, you are 5-mins drive from the Willow Pass Trail; 15-mins drive from the start of the Pomo Canyon Trail; 20-mins drive from the trails at Bodega Head and also, to the newly constructed Bird Walk Trail in Bodega Bay; 35 mins from the start of the advanced bike ride up King Ridge Road, and 40-mins from the Armstrong Redwood State Natural Reserve in Guerneville.
For the northern coast of California, expect unpredictable weather during certain times of the year (especially spring and summer), when the coast can have 30F degree drop in temperature within a day. On days like this, we recommend that guests explore inland, where temperatures can be 10 to 15F degrees warmer. The house is about 30-mins drive from zipline activities in a redwood valley of Forestville, delightful general stores of Valley Ford and Duncans Mills, gourmet deli in the Korbel Champagne House, famous breads of Wild Flour Bread in Freestone, and many fine restaurants in Jenner, Bodega Bay (1-Michelin star), and Guerneville.
About 30 mins drive is the start of several award-winning Pinot Noir vineyards along River Road and Sonoma’s back roads. Add another 15 mins and you reach the lovely town of Healdsburg, from which to explore Alexander Valley. Sonoma County was named the #1 of wine destinations in the U.S. by TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice for 2012.
We are 1 hour and 45 minutes drive from the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco...4 miles south of Jenner and 10 miles north of Bodega Bay, Sonoma County.

I have stayed at many places in Bodega Region and this was by far the best and most wonderful place of them all! The house sits on the bluffs at Goat Rock Park and the owners have stocked it so you feel like you are at home and put in a comfort zone that is truly out of this world.
They had also left a bottle of champagne and biscotti - what more could one want as I unpacked and got settled for a long weekend of R&R...
Thanks so much - I will tell all my friends about it - but not on the dates I plan on rebooking!!!
Thank you again - you cannot go wrong with this home - it is your home away from home....

Outstanding views from this house and deck. Very cozy place to come in from the cold after long days of exploring coast and Russian river. Clean and well kept house, doesn't feel like a rental.
Can't wait to come back.

These owners know how to treat a guest! They have a spectacular location with terrific views but even better are the furnishings and the way they keep it stocked. Anything you forgot to bring? It will be there, including all kitchen utensils (even the exotic ones) coffee, tea, a bottle of champagne, I could list the wonderful surprises to fill the page. No cheap paper products here! It's just like home or a first class hotel. Enjoy!

Our weekend at the cabin was absolutely magical. There were 6 adult family members across 3 generations. The location and views are stunning. The kitchen has everything you would need. The great room of the cabin is so comfortable and cozy with a large bank of windows that give it a very open feeling. We were able to view the sunrise from one window and the sunset from another. We had a roaring fire in the fireplace both nights. The stars are beautiful to view. We walked our dogs to Blind Beach and kayaked next to seals in the estuary. Coffee and mimosas (thank you Megan & David for the champagne) were enjoyed out on the deck in the morning and a glass of wine or beer in the evening as we watched the sunset. We did not want to leave! This is truly a unique spot and we hope to return. Megan and David were totally accessible for questions and requests. I would highly recommend this rental. And by the way we enjoyed the sound machine in the bedroom so much that we purchased the identical model when we arrived home. Thank you Megan and David.

We had a wonderful time at Goat Rock Beach house. The pictures are very accurate and the house was well maintained and very clean. The view is truly amazing and so soothing. A lot has been said about the comfort of the beds and totally agree--we all slept like babies! Our son, who works in San Francisco joined us over the week-end and the house was perfect for the three of us. The lovely fireplace was a great place to relax at the end of the day and enjoy some of the great wines that the area is famous for. Dave and Megan were perfect hosts and provided us with great info on the surrounding area. Would also recommend Garden Grill in Guerneville for a place to eat. Wonderful food and nice to sit outside--we're from Chicago and our al fresco dining days are definitely over for this season! Armstrong Redwood Park is also a great place for easy to moderate hiking. A very peaceful place! All in all, a great escape and an easy trip from the city. Definitely a repeat trip will be in order for us. Thanks Dave and Megan!

Gorgeous view, lovely well kept house and charming owners...what could be wrong with that? We had a great stay at Goat Rock house and can't wait to plan another one. Beautiful beaches, great hikes, killer trails, and close enough to everything. The only thing better would have been a longer stay.

On our trip the age range was 22-87. There was something for everyone. The view from the house to die for. One day fog rolling in, next day sunshine and the stars we're amazing. Beaches, hiking and resturants all very close. Dave and Megan gave us some much great information for our whole family. The beds were fantastic. The wrap around deck with BBQ was fabulous and very enjoyable. If you are looking for a relaxing to adventurous time you have found the place.

My family have been renting houses for vacations for over ten years and Goat Rock was one of the best we have ever rented. The photos do no do the house justice. the views are outsdtanding and the amount of property the house is on provides privacy from those visiting the park durring the day. There is plenty to do within an hour of the house including wineries, shoping, canoeing, hiking, and eating. The owners are great and provided lots of good information on activities and food. The rental process was a breeze. The inside of the house was extremely clean and well maintained. The kitchen is well stocked (pots, pans, plates, papper towels, storage bags, coffee...). Toiletries wee also provided. The owners enven provided an unrequested mid week cleaning which was very appriciated. This house is truly a great place to rent. We would recommend this rental for families, couples, or anyone who like to be right next to the ocean. My family and I hope to return soon. Family of Four, Colorado

The rental house in Goat Rock State Park is amazing! The photos are accurate and the tips for day trips and places to eat were very helpful. The home is well stocked with everything to make your stay comfortable. The owners were very easy to contact and very helpful. The property was very clean and well maintained. The views from the deck are outstanding! The deck has two tall tables and with 6 tall stools to view the ocean over the railing. We saw lots of birds, deer and fishing boats from the deck view. The big beach is close enough to walk down to it. You can also drive down to a large parking area and then walk on the beach. There are many harbor seals hanging out at the mouth of the Russian River. A great vantage point is on Highway 1 north of Jenner. I highly recommend this rental property.

My wife and I spent five nights at Goat Rock with our twin 6-year-old boys. We had a wonderful time. The simple and tasteful home fits the rugged setting perfectly. The views are amazing and our boys loved the (chilly) beach and the harbor seals. The house was well-appointed with the necessities and some modern conveniences like wifi. It did not have laundry or dishwasher. No problem. We dropped off our laundry at a "wash and fold" in nearby Guerneville. We enjoyed wineries in Healdsburg and Sonoma Valley. We enjoyed an excellent dinner at Terrapin in Bodega Bay. I enjoyed making use of the BBQ and the fireplace. Dave and Megan were very helpful. We would stay there again. One caveat for families: the natural surroundings are beautiful, but also potentially dangerous. Cliffs, winding roads, pounding surf. We understood this before bringing our boys and acted accordingly. We recommend you understand it as well.

Our stay at Dave and Megan's Goat Rock beach house exceeded our expectations. Their home is clean, well stocked and not lacking in any necessity. The view speaks louder than any words. We had a perfectly lovely time. We enjoyed peace and quiet as was our intention. I would recommend this home and we look forward to our next vist. Many thanks!
The Goat Rock home has an incredible view of the coastline! Large, wrap around deck for viewing and Bbqing pleasures! The open floor plan was nice with a kitchen that met all of our needs and more. Beds are very comfortable and the fireplace is wonderful! Dave and Megan made us feel very comfortable and welcome. Several trails along the coastline and just up the road is Bodega Bay. Strongly recommend the hike out to the Head at Bodega! If you want to relax and take in nature's wonders, this is the place. Kathy

Dave and Megan really do have an oceanfront gem at Goat Rock, on the beautiful Sonoma Coast, just south of Jenner. Their home has an amazing location within Goat Rock Park (part of Sonoma Coast State Park), a short stroll to the beach, or just steps from the trailhead for the Kortum Trail. The home itself is very comfortable, with great beds, a nice fireplace, and excellent heating to keep you warm on those chilly, windy coastal evenings. We appreciated the spacious kitchen with all the necessary gear, and we really appreciated the wonderful deck which wraps around the house, perfect for gazing at the ocean and rocks, the awesome sunsets, as well as star gazing in the evening. We saw deer, and plenty of birds, including hawks and kites just by walking outside. Dave and Megan made sure we had everything we would need, and made a point of making us feel welcome and at home. This is a wonderful spot to relax and recharge.
