Little Island House Upstairs Appartment

Bass Harbor house

1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 2

“Perfect slice of Peace” The Little Island House is the perfect place to stay when you journey to Maine. It is located in Bass Harbor, which is a peaceful village where lobster fishermen and women come and go. Less than a block from the house is a place to purchase crab and live lobster which you can steam in a kitchen which has Everything you could possibly need. If you are not interested in cooking, a wharf restaurant is close by and will meet your every need. The bed and bedding were perfect. Everything was very comfortable. From your little house, you can quickly jump to other villages and acadia National Park. My favorite part was sitting on the porch watching boats come in and out of the harbor. We also took a boat trip which left from the dock near the house. We saw the part of Maine that you can only see from a boat.

The Gray Barn

Bass Harbor apartment

2 bedrooms / 1 bathroom / sleeps 6

“Close to Nirvana” It would be difficult to find a better spot for spending a vacation than the Quietside of Mt. Desert, and the Gray Barn experience is part of the fun. The accomodations are modern and in great shape, and the windows both have a great view over upper Bass Harbor and give great air circulation. Access to cellphone and internet coverage is a convenience. The kitchen is very functional, though you'll want to visit the lobster pounds and restaurants in the area. A perfect base for hiking in acadia National Park. The week we were there was perfect for using the owner's kayaks in the upper harbor and the estuary beyond. We've stayed three different years and will be happy to return.

Classic Shingled Lakeside Cottage on Maine's Beautiful Down East Coast

“More than a vacation destination!” I'm a nature lover so I was not upset that it was pouring rain when we arrived because the brief rain brought a beautiful gift---the loons drifting out of the mist on Walker Pond. You don't have to be a nature lover to enjoy your stay at Cathy and Dan's incredible house on the lake. My husband and I were guests of our daughter's mother-in-law, and we were prepared to be delighted because she had been coming up to Kill Kare Kamp for a few years and we had heard how much she loved it. The house is cozy, spacious and comfortable with a spectacular view of the "pond" from the wraparound veranda. You can also take a trip back in time when you peruse the family photos on the walls or by reading the story of the camp in a book lovingly kept up by Cathy and Dan. The kitchen is like home where you'll want for nothing, every kitchen tool is available in the fully equipped kitchen. We kayaked, we read, we hiked, we tooled around the town, and we did nothing! We loved it!!! I hope to go back.

Edgewater waterfront 2 bedrooms 2 baths sunsets

Trenton cottage

2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 4

“Seaside Heaven...” Edgewater is amazing! Fully stocked kitchen, very comfortable beds, clean as a whistle. At waters edge. And hosts who go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. My 2 adult sisters and I stayed here a week in mid June. Mornings on the deck drinking coffee gazing out at the water, low tides spent combing the rocks for shells and such. AMAZING sunsets from the deck while enjoying a bottle of wine. Very quiet and forested, cottages here are not elbow to elbow! A quick trip to MDI and all it's sights and activities. We would not hesitate to book with Bill and Ruth again. The map that pinpoints where the cabin is, at least on this site, is not correct. It is not near Hwy 3 and the small airport, it is just West of Trenton on Union river bay, a very quick trip onto MDI. We loved being off Island, way less traffic. Get your Lobster already cooked at Trenton lobster pound, grab your wine, and have a beautiful evening on the deck. Beautiful place to stay.

“Regular Visitors Sharing Positive Experience” This is our 8th year at Highbrook House and every year gets better. We have witnessed many upgrades to the home over the years. When we walk into the home for our vacation, we are always excited to see the new changes.. We really enjoyed the new kitchen. This is the heart of the home and is "top of the line" with new appliances, pots/pans. What a difference from last year. We really enjoy the Master Suite, large with a sitting area just like the bedroom upstairs where my son and his family stay... Every year we notice new towels and bathroom furnishings so I don't have to bring anything with me. The owner is always on top of anything we need and returns calls promptly. We will be there again this year and look forward to the home, it's surroundings and the peace and quiet of the area... But... we are around the corner from the park and downtown...

GREAT Home, Rates, LOCATION, Walk to WATER

Bar Harbor house

2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 4

“Great Home” We stayed in Diane's house last week and could not have been more pleased. The location was excellent for exploring acadia and Mt Desert Island. The home is bright, immaculately clean, tastefully decorated and above all, comfortable. We were two couples and we had plenty of space. The kitchen is well equipped and Diane has done a superb job of addressing all possible needs, including giving directions for a near by walk to the bay and letting us know that her neighbor sells fresh eggs (delicious!). Don't hesitate to rent this house. We hope to return some day.

Little Island House Upstairs Appartment
Little Island House is the best place to enjoy acadia.

Acadia has been calling us back for many years. We've stayed in hotels, bed and breakfasts and an apartment in SW Harbor. But Little Island House is the best! The harbor is the most interesting on acadia. You have views of lobster boats, sailing vessels, wildlife and plain folks making their living from the sea. You really get a birds eye view of seafaring life in Maine. And the house is perfect. The kitchen is well equipped for those who like to boil lobster, make gumbo or grill a steak. It's been the best 3 weeks we've spent on Mt. Desert Island. Since we are almost 80 years old, I don't know if we will return but we have great memories of the time spent at the Little Island House.see more
The Gray Barn
Relaxing, quiet home base for fun week on Mt. Desert Island

Our family of 4 had a wonderful time while staying at the Gray Barn. Took about a half hour to get to many attractions on the Bar Harbor side of acadia, but it was nice to come "home" to relax away from the crowds. And there's plenty to do in and near Bass Harbor, too--Acadia mountain, Echo Lake, Thurston's Lobster Pound, boat tours, ferry, quick access to a lobster pier to buy your own (cheap) lobster to cook. The Gray Barn is on a small, residential road, set back a bit from the main road, with a direct view of the harbor and short walk down to the water. It was very clean and well-kept, with all the amenities of home, including a nicely stocked pantry of basic cooking supplies and paper products. The sunroom/dining room was bright and breezy with view of the harbor. Beds were comfy, there was plenty of room on the living room and sunroom couches to stretch out, and having a washer and dryer on site was handy. The kayaks were a bonus--we enjoyed exploring the harbor or nearby marsh. And the raspberries growing on the property were a treat. The owner was really friendly and helpful in orienting us to the island when we arrived, and provided maps and brochures to use while we were there. He recommended a tasty, authentic Mexican restaurant (XYZ) in town and told us about a great swimming spot on Echo Lake ("the ledges") that our kids really enjoyed. If we make it back to acadia Nat'l Park, we'd stay there again for sure. Would highly recommend the property.see more
