“Beauty, birds, boats and beyond! A wonderful retreat!” We stayed at the boathouse for a week and couldn't have been more pleased. Nestled on the shore of a quiet bay that links to the big lake, we were enchanted by the beautiful surroundings and absolute peace. The boathouse itself is simple and spacious, very well maintained and provided a perfect place to kick-back and enjoy. A short walk down the lovely woodland path brings you to an expansive beach where you can explore, swim, sun tan or hunt for shoreline treasures. Our only neighbours were an eagle, a beaver, a heron, a countless variety of woodland birds...and a rather nearsighted bat we nicknamed "squinty". The owner is Eberhard, a wonderful host as well as a skillful and patient kayak and canoe instructor - well suited to assist anyone from the paddling novice, to those just requiring a brush-up on their skills. The dock is overlooked by the boathouse and is the launch-point for the boats. When people rented kayaks or canoes they would briefly pass by in front of the boathouse on their way to the dock. It never felt intrusive; in fact, it was often a lighthearted social encounter with a wave hello or a "good morning" from us or them. This is a place where you can be as active or as quiet as you wish to be. We rarely left the property but when we did, we would return, step through the door and feel instantly welcomed home by the cottage. This place afforded us much needed rest and relaxation along with some amazing adventures! We would definitely stay again.

“Can't imagine a better accommodation for a visit to Cape Breton” From our first contact with owner, Niki Pike, regarding reservations to the moment we said goodby to Cliff Waters the experience was nothing short of sensational. Prior to our trip Niki provided us with a great overview of her beautiful part of the world including recommendations on exciting hikes, whale tours, sea kayaking, and local dining. Her advise was spot on. We knew immediately upon arriving that Cliff Waters was going to be a special place to use as a base for our week on Cape Breton Island. As we drove along the roadway approaching the cottage for the first time we noticed a pod of pilot whales feeding just off shore. Arriving just before sunset we spent the first hour of our stay sitting on the front porch watching and listening (yes the whales were that close) as the whales put on a private show just for us. The amazing sunset over the ocean that we marveled at that evening was just the first of what became a daily ritual. The cottage was everything we had hoped for. There was plenty of room in the open floor plan for my wife and I along with our daughter. The sleeping loft provides a great place for a third or fourth person. The full kitchen had everything we needed to prepare wonderful meals of local seafood. We found the cottage clean and well furnished with everything we needed for our stay. I must admit that before our visit we had some concerns about the remote location of Cliff Waters. It is in fact "off the beaten path" in a very isolated yet easily accessible area. Our concerns were unfounded. The isolation translated into privacy. With not another home in sight we felt as though we had the whole island to ourselves, yet, within a short drive along the Cabot Trail we discovered a wonderful world of natural beauty and adventure. Each evening, after a day of exploring the island, we returned to our wonderful Cliff Waters Cottage for the whale show and unforgettable sunset. Can't imagine a better vacation experience.
