Hamilton Cove Villa 1-67

Avalon apartment

2 bedrooms / 2 bathrooms / sleeps 6

“A wonderful weekend!” Our stay in Hamilton Cove Villa 1-67 was WONDERFUL! The check-in process was a piece of cake and the condo was beautiful. The condo is spacious and the kitchen was stocked with all the necessary cooking essentials - making it easy for us to stay in and cook breakfast and dinner. The nearby pool is wonderful and the view is amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the balcony with a cup of coffee watching the sunrise each morning. Since we had 5 people in our group, we were really excited that this condo came with a 6-person golf cart.... unfortunately we never used it but it was nice to have it as an option. Overall, we were SO happy that we stayed in Hamilton Cove - although it was a little outside of Avalon (Approx. $15 cab ride) it was relaxing and beautiful - it was everything we could have asked for.

Hamilton Cove Villa 1-68

“Even the parking space had amazing views!” Hamilton Cove Villa 1-68 can expect us to return to take in the views. The whole front wall is 3 sets of french doors, and a huge view window in the dining area. If you don't want to stare out at the spectacular ocean, then you can glance down to the little rocky cove below you. The condo is awesome: clean, fun, and nicely laid out for sleeping space. As we used it for an inexpensive quick get away we were happy w/the ability to sleep four in a one bedroom unit, and our daughters still each had their own space. There is the twin daybed (which is a trundle if you need it) tucked away in an alcove. And there's also a futon/sofa. The kitchen had everything needed, and more. Downsides: You must carry your suitcases down & back up several flights of stairs, somebody "borrowed ALL the hangers) and left cigarette butts in a potted patio plant. Serious drawback: the Internet and cell phone service was nearly non existent for us At&T users. My husband occasionally got a weak signal, but not I. Our college age daughters were horrified and ended up spending much more time in the charming town of Avalon so as to be connected to the world. I was ok with it, we went there to relax and snorkel, after all. But even the girls were impressed with the condo and the views. It was wonderful to have that cart, couldn't really have stayed there without it. But it also made the villas superior to the hotels. The villas are more attractive, quiet, and as they're gated, more secure than in town. The ride to and from was always enlivened by seeing the shyer Avalon residents, a herd of deer. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed snorkeling in that lovely private cove. Yes, waters are a little chilly. The trick is to go in waist deep, get out for a few minutes. When you get back in, the part of you that got wet is now just fine with the temp. Works every time. And the snorkeling is lovely. Other than Garibaldi, California's state fish the fish are not as brightly colored as Hawaii's, but the flora and fauna are much more so, and create a magnificent experience. The sheer numbers of fish delighted us. This little cove is a nursery to schools and schools of various fish. Even spotted eagle rays, bat rays, sting rays, a shy leopard shark (harmless w/just sandpapery nubs of teeth to eat small clams). Watched a senorita fish and a small calico bass harass an octopus. Snorkeling brought us to Catalina's Hamilton Cove Villas, and will bring us back.

“Will return!” The staff was very polite and helpful. The home was warm and inviting. The older decor didn't take away from our great experience. The condo experience is much more rewarding than a hotel one. Especially if you are traveling with others. You can cook your own meals and save some $$$. The Common area to commune when the days activities have concluded was priceless.

“Great Place to Stay” This unit was a great place to stay for us. It has a terrific view and all the amenities you would expect. My only gripe was the quality of the mattress on the fold-out sofa, but the kids didn't seem to mind. Having a golf cart was very nice to explore places that may be too far on foot. Being a little outside avalon was also very nice -- it can get pretty noisy on the weekends. Hamilton Cove has a pretty strict no-noise policy, and many of the people there have small children that go to bed early. I really enjoyed the peace. Important to note that this is not a good place for anyone who can't hike up several flights of stairs. I would gladly stay here again.

“Beautiful View, Beautiful Home, Beautiful Place to stay!” This was not our first time to Hamilton Cove, we have stayed several times before but, not this unit. This was a wonderful and beautiful location. The home was pristine and it overlooked everything. So, happy to have stayed here and would stay here again.

“borderline magic” This unit is more or less dead center of the complex, and is directly above the pool and clubhouse, with a view right down onto the beach. It's at the mid point so you pretty well have to go up the maximum amount of steps (not something that concerns me). As with most, if not all, units, this one comes with a golf cart and that's a must because walking from town to Hamilton Cove, while it is totally doable, would be a good half hour hike up a serious hill and if you're packing groceries, forget it, you'd need a cab which costs $15 all in from town. The unit was very nice (truly), with very large (50 inch) brand new flat screen LED smart TVs in both living room and master bed. It's nice to flip on cable and put it on a sat music station. It does get regular cable TV programs but the best entertainment is outside on the large balcony (easily could have 10 people on the balcony, it's 25 ft long and 6 ft wide). Furniture was chosen with good taste and is very comfortable (rly nice and comfortable fold out couch but we didn't use it for a bed). The artwork and decor makes u feel like you're in a well designed home The master bed mattress seemed like an old spring mattess in desperate need of replacement and i have a bad back, and so forth so i was fairly concerned but for whatever reason, it didn't bother me and i had no trouble sleeping. There's no AC and it was mid summer here at the island and in the 80s through the early evening but we had no need of AC (and I definitely an AC kinda guy). The ocean breeze with the doors open at night was heaven and because it is located directly above the beach (albeit, 300 ft away), you can hear the gentle waves come in all night. To be honest I don't think you can really do better than Hamilton Cove Villa, if you're looking at a higher end stay. In terms of price, it's right in there with the high end places and if you've got kids (I did not have kids this stay) it's a no brainer for a larger space, kitchen etc. This particular villa, the second i have stayed at, has got to be one of the best deals in the whole complex. I am sure it's lower price reflects how difficult it is to get to it. You need to ascend about 75 ft of steps. I knew this going in, or, surmised it, and it's no issue for me but if you're older or have bad knees or something, be aware of this because there is no way around it. There are no elevators here. The golf cart seemed to have an issue with exhaust, even with all the flaps open.

“Love Catalina! Love this place!” This was our second year renting this town home. It's clean and decorated nicely. Beds are comfortable and the views from the top floor are terrific too! “Fun on Catalina Island” Our family enjoyed this Hamilton Cove condo. The pool and jacuzzi were great, and having the golf cart was a nice way to get into Avalon. The condo was clean and well maintained with a good supply of towels. The location is quiet with a great view of the Pacific. It might be good to have a checklist of kitchen supplies to be sure they are adequate. Our kitchen had only a couple of teaspoons.

“Great place to stay!” Beautiful condo, great location near the ferry dock. Good price in comparison to similar places, though a bit expensive with taxes, cleaning fees, etc. No real complaints, though there is no A/C. Plenty of ceiling fans, but to get good air flow you need windows open, which can make it noisy inside at night. Generally quiets down by 10-11pm. Wasn't a big deal for us though, even with a 21 month old.

“Amazing!” The condo was clean, neat, and perfect for our family! My husband and I were there with our 3 kids (8yr,6yr and 3 month newborn). The complex has a playground, basketball courts and swimming pool that the kids loved. The use of the golf cart really came in handy to get around the island! The unit has been upgraded nicely. We rented through CIVR.

“Slice of heaven” After being there staying in another amazing apartment we had arranged to stay in another and was given this even more beautiful apartment for our last night. The decor was so comfortable and relaxing, felt like a home away from home. We could imagine it was our own slice of heaven and were sad to have to leave. The management company did everything they could to help us when we wanted to stay an extra day and are very friendly. The location was perfect, not that the area is too big to be far from much but the golf cart truly helped. The best is hard to choose but the worst is the stairs to get to the apartment, anyone with any sort of problems going up stairs would have a hard time.

“At Home on the Island” I spent two weeks at this property and loved it! The unit is spacious and the deck was great! My friends and I enjoyed sitting on that deck and watching the ocean, woodpeckers and even deer in the neighbors yard! We used the BBQ out there also. The unit is a little bit uphill but worth the hike. Furniture was comfy (all beds good except we didn't use the sofa bed...so I don't know about it). I will stay here again.

“Beautiful” Wow I have to say the value that one gets staying at Hamilton is like no other. My family honestly enjoys visiting the island more than going to Hawaii. The travel time is way less and the cost is way less and we have just as good of a time if not better. We all did the zip line and it was a great addition to the fun offered visiting the island. I will never stay on our boat again when visiting. The condo we stayed at was large with a full kitchen and we had an incredible view. Thank you Catalina Vacation Rentals for showing us a good time. We will surely be back again and again.

“Really cute unit with a decent view” The condo was comfortable and decorated nicely. We had some confusion when we arrived after dark -- the signage for elevators and buildings is pretty terrible. “Absolute Stunner!” In a sleepy village where most of the residences are holding tightly to 1970s decor, 227 Beacon B is a fish out of water. Fantastically updated throughout and looks like a modern day 5 star hotel suite- I hope you like granite and hardwoods! The external balcony and walkways are a little weathered, but the interior is immaculate. The street and driveway are a bit steep up a hill which allows for the expansive views, so you may want to use a cab if you're bringing heavy luggage. Also has a mirror image unit 227 Beacon A and we will likely pursue renting both in the future for a family gathering! Thanks, Brian, Kayte, Kevin and Briana

“My week in paradise” I always love spending time in Bahia Vista C56. It is comfortable, nicely decorated, and the owner has made some great upgrades such as two new toilets. I was surprised this time that the closet in the second bedroom was locked which forced the guests in the two bedrooms to share the small closet in the hall between them. I am hoping that the owner will reconsider locking that closet, since the closet in the master bedroom is not available to guests either. Otherwise, my friend and I really enjoyed ourselves, and, since we were working on a book together, we appreciated the wi-fi and use of the printer! Thanks so much.

“Very Pleased.” Clean, quiet, plenty of room and a minimum of steps to the door. The golf cart is in excellent working condition and the villa has a great view. The villa has a washer and dryer so you can pack less if you choose to do a load or two during your stay. Avalon is six minutes away by golf cart. Here's a shopping tip; If you see an item you are interested in displayed in the window of a shop that is closed, go to any open shop and ask an employee about the closed shop. More than likely they know who works at that shop and they can tell you how to contact them in order to arrange for the closed shop to be opened for you. This comes in handy if you will be departing prior to the next scheduled opening of the shop. And don't be surprised if shops don't open exactly on time. If you travel off season, many of the shops/restaurants may not maintain regular hours. If you are planning on having dinner at a particular restaurant go inside and ask if they will, in fact, be open for dinner regardless of any posted hours.

Needless to say, we will definitely be back. Hamilton Cove is definitely the way to go. Golfcart provided that allowed us to get around easily. Clean clean clean! What a clean place to stay. “You won't be disappointed!!” Beautifully appointed villa! Just bring your personal items, everything else is provided. You absolutely cannot beat this view! Clean, beautifully updated, private and quiet. Veranda is on the smaller side but very comfortable for 2 people. Only down side is we had to call for maintenance on the golf cart provided. We were overcome by the fumes while driving so we removed the cover but I still had to hold a hand towel over my face when we used it. No exploring the island. I rated 4 stars overall because of the issues with golf cart, otherwise I would rate the actual villa 5 stars. It's about 5 minutes to downtown Avalon so you really need to use the golf cart to get downtown. Our booking and check in was 5 stars. Everyone was so wonderful and helpful! “July 2014” The condo was very nice and relaxing the shared balcony was not an issue like I thought it was going to be. Having the private area of Hamilton cove enhances the experience cause you have a place to escape the crowds and have quiet time yet you can hop in your cart and go into town and enjoy the crowds when you want. the only slight problem I had was the maintenance crew popping up randomly I was in my boxers in the living room and then suddenly at 7 in the morning there was some dude on the balcony. that happened to me last year as well I understand they have a job to do though. also I would recommend hitting the sidewalk areas with a power washer but I also understand that catalina is going through a severe drought. my stay there was wonderful me and my friends had a great time that we wont soon forget.

“Unit 18-75 amazing !!!” After spending a week in Hamilton Cove, I can see why there are so many mixed reviews. Your experience will depend entirely on your unit. Building number 18 is brand new and gorgeous from top to bottom. If you do your research, look at the photos, and pay a reasonable price, you will not be disappointed. Our three bedroom unit had every amenity you could think of, was spotless, and no small detail was overlooked. The family that owns it obviously takes great pride to make sure their guests have what they need to feel welcome. Our family of six couldn't have been happier. The bunk bed room was perfect and all three bathrooms were huge. It was the top unit in the building with breath taking views and ten or so steps to our golf cart. Hamilton Cove is clearly geared to families or romantic couples, so if you're looking for the party scene, it's probably not the place for you. We couldn't find one single thing to complain about and never called the management company once. We made use of all the activities the Cove had to offer: tennis, basketball, mini-golf, croquet, etc. I will definitely go back and will always request this particular unit. The wrap around balcony was an added bonus. Simply fantastic family vacation!!
