“The best villa in Crete!” I stayed at the villa in May 2013 with 8 other friends, and it was incredible! The villa was beautiful, huge, clean, well-kept, and Stelios was really amazing. He helped us book dinner reservations in town and organized for a chef to come to the villa one night and cook us a delicious authentic Greek meal. He also helped us arrange to take a boat for a day and beach hop to different beaches around Crete, as well as helped us organize hikes and daily activities. We could not have found a better villa, and look forward to coming back in the near future!

“Contemplation, elegance and functionality” Villa Ioanna is an unique and beautiful villa with a bright, simple, clean and modern interior. It is situated outside the villa Plaka, in a peaceful place surrounded by olive trees and with a stonishing view to the Almyrida bay and the White mountains (Lefka Ori). The house has a delicious swimming pool with very clean and soft water. The garden is breathtaking and smells from herbs and sweet flowers. The house and the garden appeal to our senses and invite to contemplation and pleasure. The house has everything one needs. We especially appreciated the air-conditoin, the moskito-nets in front of the doors and windows, the shower soap and the washing maschine. The house was cleaned twice a weak - a great luxury! The contact with the owners of the house was excellent and we met great hospitality. Mikhalis met us in Plaka village and took us to the villa, and George and Kostas helped us with car-rental and all other information we needed. They replied very quickly and friendly to our enquiries on e-mail. We were three families in the house, six adults and three kids (6-9). Some of us went to the beach by car, others appreciated the 20-30 minutes walk down to the centre of Almyrida. We had wonderful dinners at the many restaurants in Plaka, only a 10 minutes walk from Ioanna. The residence is also a nice starting point for day-trips to Chania, Samaria, Plakias and other great places on Crete. We all fell in love with VIlla Ioanna and we wish that all visitors in the future will take good care of the house. Karianne Skovholt

Studio by the Sea

Chania Town apartment

1 bedroom / 1 bathroom / sleeps 2

“Returning as soon as possible!” Connie and John's studio is a 5 minute walk from the sea, and the taverns on the water as well as people who run them offer great food and wonderful hospitality to visitors, at extremely affordable prices. In fact, they didn't even ask us to pay for the umbrellas and sun beds and brought our drinks and food right down to our sunbeds for us. Coming from Italy, where we usually pay up to 25 Euros a day for 2 sunbeds and an umbrella, that says a lot. The studio is perfect for two, though we managed to get three people into it by placing a third mattress into the room thanks to the caretakers that added one for us, as our third traveller was a last minute addition. It was crowded with three but definitely doable. The aC worked well, and we were all very happy to spend a too short week in the studio with its sea views. No mosquitos! Not one. Yet another plus. In fact, I'm returning in October, though I just went in august. Luckily, I'm just a 2 hour flight away, and thought this was my first trip to Crete, it definitely won't be my last. The town of Kalamki is about 7 kilometers from the major city of Chania, a lovely once Venetian outpost, with it's colorful markets, shops, and eateries. The beach in Kalamaki is somewhat protected from wind and waves, and pretty calm and clear, though even more spectacular beaches can be reached by car and tour bus, anywhere from one to two hour's away. Plenty of things to do on the island, and a car is the best way to go, though there are plenty of other options. More populated beach towns with large hotels and droves of tourists are set just off to both sides of Kalamaki but my instincts served me well and I felt as though I had landed in the perfect spot. I can't say enough. I'm defninitely a fan. Just about everyone speaks English fluently on the island, which is also a plus if you're concerned about the language.

Anemon Villas - Villa Levantes

Chania Town villa

3 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / sleeps 7

“Beautiful and Comfortable Villa Levantes” Our adult family of five’s stay in Villa Levantes was excellent. The villa is like the pictures but much more beautiful in real life. The spectacular views from the villa decks and windows of the mountains and Nopigia beach were breathtaking. We enjoyed the rural setting with its very clean air, the olive groves, the goats on the mountain and the sheep and lambs romping in the field below. As well the landscaping around the villas is cleverly done so you are surrounded by beauty everywhere. The villa itself is well designed with lots of private spaces. The kitchen is well appointed with everything you need for serious cooking. The bedrooms, living room and kitchen are all spacious, very comfortable and well designed. Our family felt at home immediately. Haris, Stefanos and their mother welcomed us to the villa with an amazing selection of Cretan delights of fruit, wine, beverages, pastries, breads etc. They also decorated the villa for Christmas and brought special homemade dessert on Christmas day so it was extra special to be there over the holidays. They are the most considerate of hosts and made our stay the best possible. We hope we will be lucky enough to come back again sometime. Sharon, George, Arlen, Adrian, and Giuliana

Anemon Villas - Villa Pounentes

Chania Town villa

3 bedrooms / 3 bathrooms / sleeps 7

“Above any expectation” We spent a fabolous week in Crete at Villa Pounentes. We were in 3 couples and the experience was above expectation. The owner, Haris, was very kind and ready to give us suggestions and help on any situation. The Villa is simply wonderful: wide rooms (each with a bathroom full furnished nearby), bright living room (with stereo hi-fi, tv lcd, comfortable sofa), functional kitchen and from anywhere great views on the Kissamos Bay. Outside a beatiful swimming pool. The Villa was very clean and a cleaning service occurs every 3 or 4 days. The Villa is located on a hill near Nopigia (5km from Kissamos) and there aren't nice beach near. However, with a car available, this is a good start point to reach all the beautiful locations of west Crete (Balos, Elafonissi, Falasarna..). We absolutely recommend this rental to anyone wants to visit Crete.

About Chania Town

The Island of Crete and its port town of Chania are home to some of the most beautiful beaches in all of Europe. With a historic old harbor, archaeological gems scattered throughout the city, and friendly, hospitable locals, this town has it all! Paleologu Street and Kallinikou Street are the two main streets in Chania. Not only are they within close proximity to the beach, but these streets are also home to the best boutique shopping and fine restaurants in the area.

Here are a few additional suggestions of thing to do in Chania:

  • Archaeological Museum of Chania: This museum houses several artifacts from Crete and Greece that are thousands of years old.
  • Samaria Gorge: This coastal village is home to the most popular national park in the country.
  • Old Turkish Quarter: Take a walk through this historical area that's home to plenty of vibrant and colorful markets and restaurants.
  • Explore the villages: Visiting the villages is the best way to explore local Cretan culture. The village of Gavalohori, home of the Folklore Museum, is a must.
  • Etz Hayyim Synagogue: Learn about the history of Crete's Jewish population at this synagogue.
  • Go to the Beach: Of course, no vacation to Chania would be complete without spending time at the best beaches in the country.

Cretans view life as something to celebrate, and the events and festivals held year-round in Chania are a reflection of that. Some of the biggest ones include the Wine Festival in August, which celebrates the best wine made in the country; the Saint Nikitas Festival in September, where various athletic competitions are organized for the public to participate in or watch; and the Blessing of the Sheep in April, when sheep's milk is distributed to everyone and is followed by a celebration with music, dance, and food.

Luckily, no matter what time of year you plan to visit, finding a vacation rental in Chania is easy. Whether you're looking for a high-end condo on one of the main streets of town, or a spacious villa with breathtaking views of the beach right out your door, there's a vacation rental in Chania that's right for your budget and vacation needs.

Anemon Villas - Villa Levantes
Picture Perfect

This review is echoed in part in the Guest book at the Villa. I hope that all who read it who want to enjoy a thoroughly relaxing break will take heed. Levente is one of the Easterly winds that blows through Crete from around April heralding the coming of delicious warm weather. Not only was the Levantes villa picture perfect, a rare find as a lot of villa hunters will know but it was spotless, protected in an enclosed site and had stunning views of mountains, sea and Cretan living. We were met by Harris who gave us a tour of the villa and all the goodies in the welcome pack, made some recommendations for days out and places to eat. He was relaxed and positively charming and my husband and he spent some time talking about a book that he was very trustingly lent on a previous visit to Crete in another part of the Island. Next we met Stefanos, equally as charming and helpful. We had only been in residence 3 days but Stefanos told us that someone would be there to change the bedding and clean the villa and he would clean the pool. I cannot speak highly enough of the attention to detail that had gone into the Villa both on the decorative and equipment for living side. Harris arrived during that day with a book that he had chosen, bought, wrapped and bowed for Graham about a local man and how he had delat with the subject of their earlier conversation had been about. An exceptionally generous thought and gesture. We were sorry to leave but will return and our only regret was that we did not meet the boys parents, pperhaps that is for next time. Harris, Stefanos - Thank you so very much. Graham did swim in the pool, I did not, so I have to come back to experience swimming under the glass floor! Our best wishes for a successful year.see more
