About DeLand

DeLand has a long history dating all the way back to 1874. Originally called Persimmon Hollow due to the wild persimmon trees that grew in the area, DeLand was first settled by Captain John Rich.

DeLand didn't actually get its name until Henry Addison DeLand visited in 1876. Later that year, after envisioning a citrus, agricultural and tourism center, he founded the town and named it after himself.

DeLand is home to Florida's oldest college, Stetson University! You’ll be able to take a walking tour of the university while visiting.

Bearing the nickname of The Athens of Florida, DeLand shows off its charm and beauty through the architecture of the buildings. A sense of Greco-Roman style can be found throughout the town.

This Southern town, located only 25 minutes from Daytona Beach and about 40 minutes from Orlando, offers tourists a relaxing break.
