“A peaceful place to stay” The cabin was a great place to have as our base camp while exploring the area. Even with the rain, we were able to enjoy the hot tub & sit out on the deck. All we did was bring some food & everything else was available at the cabin. The scenery was beautiful!

About Fayetteville

Originally called Vandalia, Fayetteville takes its current name from the Marquis de Lafayette, a revolutionary war hero who visited the area in the early 1800s. While the town grew thanks to its mining industry, today it is tourism that’s helping this county seat to thrive.

The New River Gorge Bridge, constructed in 1977, was once the largest steel-arch bridge on the planet, until the construction of a bridge in Shanghai. Today, it remains the longest arch bridge in the Western hemisphere, and the views from it are really quite spectacular.

Fayetteville is renowned for its scenic countryside and wealth of outdoor activities, as well as its historic downtown district. while you’re here, relax in a local restaurant with some BBQ food or Cajun specialties – most places are family-friendly and you'll find restaurants catering for all budgets.

What to do

Shop for local produce at the Fayette County Farmers Market or stroll around the historic downtown district with its shops, restaurants and galleries. While you’re here, catch a show at the Fayette Theatre.

Get out of town to Hawks Nest State Park or Babcock State Park where you can go hiking, mountain biking, climbing, fishing, canoeing or kayaking. There’s also plenty of opportunities for watersports, such as white water rafting, or you could saddle up and explore the county’s many horse trails. You could even enjoy a llama trek!

Mountain bike tours of the area’s trails are a popular way to spend a day out with the kids, with guided tours available to suit all ages and abilities.

For days out from Fayetteville, why not head for Beckley, just a 30-minute drive away, where you can do some shopping, or drive west to Charleston, the state capital?
