“A peaceful place to stay” The cabin was a great place to have as our base camp while exploring the area. Even with the rain, we were able to enjoy the hot tub & sit out on the deck. All we did was bring some food & everything else was available at the cabin. The scenery was beautiful!

About Fayetteville

Originally called Vandalia, Fayetteville takes its current name from the Marquis de Lafayette, a revolutionary war hero who visited the area in the early 1800s. While the town grew thanks to its mining industry, today it is tourism that’s helping this county seat to thrive.

The New River Gorge Bridge, constructed in 1977, was once the largest steel-arch bridge on the planet, until the construction of a bridge in Shanghai. Today, it remains the longest arch bridge in the Western hemisphere, and the views from it are really quite spectacular.

Fayetteville is renowned for its scenic countryside and wealth of outdoor activities, as well as its historic downtown district. while you’re here, relax in a local restaurant with some BBQ food or Cajun specialties – most places are family-friendly and you'll find restaurants catering for all budgets.

What to do

Shop for local produce at the Fayette County Farmers Market or stroll around the historic downtown district with its shops, restaurants and galleries. While you’re here, catch a show at the Fayette Theatre.

Get out of town to Hawks Nest State Park or Babcock State Park where you can go hiking, mountain biking, climbing, fishing, canoeing or kayaking. There’s also plenty of opportunities for watersports, such as white water rafting, or you could saddle up and explore the county’s many horse trails. You could even enjoy a llama trek!

Mountain bike tours of the area’s trails are a popular way to spend a day out with the kids, with guided tours available to suit all ages and abilities.

For days out from Fayetteville, why not head for Beckley, just a 30-minute drive away, where you can do some shopping, or drive west to Charleston, the state capital?

Top Travel tips

The nearest airports to Fayetteville are Beckley Raleigh County Memorial (27 miles) for domestic flights and Port Columbus International (218 miles) for international flights.

Come here in October and you can enjoy ‘Bridge Day’ on the third Saturday of the month. The bridge opens to the public for organized walks, with amazing views and the opportunity to watch rappelling and parachuting demos (from a height of 876 feet!) with live music and a range of stalls.

Whatever outdoor activities you’re into, you’ll be able to enjoy an active family vacation or action-packed retreat for two on your trip to Fayetteville.

3 Bedroom Vacation Home near the New River Gorge
Great vacation home in the woods!

We had a great time visiting Fayetteville and staying in this beautiful vacation home. The house is new and very clean. It has all linens and kitchen necessities, a large covered porch, a nice deck with hot tub, and a fire pit in the back yard. The owners were easy to deal with. Located 10 minutes from outdoor attractions; and 10 minutes from Walmart and Lowe's. The kitchen is laid out nicely for our group of 7 adults.see more
The Greenbrier
Great accomodations for our rally

We had a group of 14 stay at the Greenbrier Cabin this past weekend. Aside from being very affordable compared to other expensive rentals in the area, we found the cabin to be very clean and comfortable. We had members in our group from all over the country and many have expressed an interest in returning as a group or with their families. Several features that were particularly enjoyed were the well-maintained hot tub, the covered car port, and the well-stocked linens and toiletries. The management was even kind enough to mail a pair of jeans to Minnesota that were left behind by a member of our group. Our only suggestion would be to add additional cookware...it took a while to cook breakfast for 14 people in one frying pan! Thanks again to the owners of the cabin! We enjoyed our stay and hope to be repeat customers.see more
The Redstar
Relaxing atmosphere that was well worth the price

I never give 5-star rating because I never get a perfect stay. We had a bachelor party here. The crowd was one that liked to have a good time but were non-destructive in nature. This unit was nestled in a heavily wooded area and is very close to civilization and the Adventures that can be experienced in the area. The fact that it have 2 large beds and 8 single beds (4 bunks) was huge because every guy got a bed. We didn't even need to use the sofa bed. The house has been well taken care of. The grill, pool table, and hot tub were nice and heavily utilized amenities and were in working order. The negatives are few, but there are some; as it is with every house/cabin rental I've ever stayed in. No screens on the windows was a huge disappointment, especially when we couldn't turn the A/C on because the T-Stat had to remain on EmHeat the entire time; there was a sign posted. The kitchen cabinets were unorganized upon arrival for there were pots/pans all over the place. I would recommend taking utensils if you have a large party because this unit comes with very few. Fire pit was great, but get wood early because it gets picked over pretty quickly in the area.see more
