Waterfront Lake Rousseau on the Withlacoochee River

Dunnellon house

  • 2 bedrooms
  • 1 bathroom
  • sleeps 4

“Wonderful get a way on Lake Rousseau” This is a special place. The house has everything you need for a wonderful time. The kitchen while small has everything you need to cook anything you want. Gas grill, charcoal grill and smoker are also there. The view from the dining room table is so calming. The dock on the lake was our favorite place! Watching the sunsets, fish, turtles and birds was peaceful and relaxing. Great kayaking on the lake(launch from the front yard) and nearby rivers. The town of Dunnelleon has plenty of stores, restaurants and river tours. The owner of the property, Will Steinbeck was a joy to work with. Readily available and answered all our questions. We would not hesitate to return to this property. We are sharing a picture of one of our sunsets. Just stunning!

About Homosassa

For a picturesque Floridian vacation, Homosassa is a great place to set up camp. Surrounded by wildlife and beautiful beaches, you may never want to leave!

Start planning for your unforgettable trip by booking your Homosassa vacation rental on FlipKey today.

About Homosassa, Florida

This beautiful vacation destination has a long history – the name itself is derived from the Seminole language, meaning either 'river of fishes' or 'pepper ridge'.

When you get here, you'll see why both of these are perfect names for this seaside spot.

In 1851, the town of Homosassa was set up, centered around the Yulee sugar plantation that also harvested cotton and citrus fruits. You can still see the remains of the plantation in the Yulee Sugar Mill Ruins Historic State Park.

Bear in mind when you visit here that it's a retiree area, not a tourist trap. That means it's quiet and peaceful.

If you're happy staying in this town that's reminiscent of Old Florida, embrace the laid-back lifestyle and get to know your neighbors – you never know, you might move here one day, too!

There aren’t many places that are better to retire in – who wouldn't want to stay in a place where manatees regularly swim by and say hello?

What to do

Head to the Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. It's a gorgeous natural park with a lot to offer.

It even has Lu, the Homosassa Hippo, who is a star in his own right. He's been on TV, you know – he was in the 1960s movies Daktari and Cowboy in Africa. Now, he's 57 – the oldest hippo in America – and tends to spend his days in the park, watching people go by.

While you're in the park, make sure to go to the 'fishbowl' – it's the underwater viewing platform. If you're lucky, you may see manatees and fish swimming by.

There's a lot to do on the river itself – stroll along the trail or take part in some water sports. Go kayaking, sail a boat or even try stand-up paddleboarding in the clear water. It's a great day out!

For something a little different, head to the Old Mill House Gallery and Printing Museum. Take a tour with the owner and see the old hand-set types and hand-fed presses – it's really interesting!
