“Great location for a perty” 14 friends helped me celebrate my 50th birthday at Melmerby Hall and a great time was had by all. This is a great perty house. The house is both spacious well equipped with anything you might need the house has a comfortable feel to it and all the bedrooms were of a good standard Jilly provided dinner on the Saturday night. The food was both plentiful and to a high standard On recommendation from Christine we went for a lunch to the Crown at Kirkoswald and again found a great welcome and good food

Cazenovia Hall

“Absolutely perfect stay in idyllic country home.” We booked the three adjoining properties of Cazenovia Hall, Riverain and Wythburn cottage to celebrate our daughter's 21st birthday with family and friends. We had viewed the properties on the website and were expecting a very high standard, but they even surpassed all our expectations. Cazenovia Hall had all the facilities of a 5* hotel, with beautifully furnished and decorated ensuite bedrooms, an outstanding galleried kitchen and dining area and wonderfully comfortable sitting room, which led out onto a huge private patio. We had enough room to entertain the whole party comfortably for the whole weekend. The kitchen area was incredibly well laid out and had exceptional facilities for cooking and preparing dinner. I loved the aga, which heated the entire room and made it so convivial. It was so well equipped that we had no need for anything. On arrival, we found it spotlessly clean, all the rooms were absolutely immaculate and we were delighted with the generous hamper and provisions that had been provided for our stay. All the little things had been considered, such as nightlights, candles, matches, charcoal and firelighters for the barbecues, which made it into a home from home. We really had the most wonderful time and have so many happy memories of our stay. The outdoors were as impressive as the interior, with beautifully tended gardens, flowering shrubs and trees and the wonderful trickling stream. We could not have asked for a more perfect stay and would stay again at the drop of a hat. Thank you to the Rowleys and all the staff who must work so hard to keep this property at such an exceptional standard. We hope to visit your other properties and feel assured that the standard of all would be absolutely comparative.

“Weekend at Elk Cottage” Having stayed once before at Stag cottage, we had an idea of what to expect from Elk Cottage and the service from Christine and Jilly. We were not disappointed We arrived at the small village of Glassonby but were unable to locate the cottage, a quick phone call and Jilly was soon on the scene guiding us to the cottage As in Stag cottage the conversion is stunning, tastefully done with high quality fittings and attention to detail That attention to detail transfers through into the service you receive, with the fridge well stocked as well as a hamper with lots of quality goodies. In the living room you will find a log burner which is all prepared, which is great after a hard days walking in the beautiful countryside. We opted for the walk to Lacy's Caves and long Meg, which is a nice walk, mostly flat so not too taxing, though I'm not sure about 5.5 mile, though its possible that we went a longer route We find it hard to see past the cottages at Rowley Estate and cant wait to try our next booking at Riverain. I will post a review after that visit in July

“Definately a 5* property with all the trimmings” Thank you Christine and Jilly we had a great time at Riverain, everything was 5 star including the welcome hamper. The position 10 minutes from Penrith was perfect for us all, 3 travelled by train from Glasgow, 1 by car from Harrogate and myself from Cheshire all taking 2 hour door to door. We all take turns of booking a 6 monthly girls away trip and have been as far afield as Dubai and last year had 2 trips to lodges at Gleneagles, Riverain was given top marks by us all.Everything we needed was there and ithe kitchen was so well equipped, including nice sharp knives which is usually a problem in holiday homes. We loved the wood burner and how great to have a constant supply of really nice dry logs,. We all agree a great venue and great property we will be back.

“Beautiful house in an amazing setting” We spent last weekend at Hause Hall to celebrate my fathers birthday. The house is beautiful with everything that you need provided for. There was a lovely welcome hamper for us on our arrival. The position of the house is great, by Lake Ullswater, with great views of the fells. I will definitely be returning.

“Amazing time at Stag Cottage” A group of 4 of us travelled up to Stag Cottage for a few days of r&r. We couldn't have asked for a better place to stay. The cottage is beautiful and set in wonderful grounds. There's plenty of space for a group of 4 and the decor very welcoming. There are some fantastic walks and great places to eat near by and others a short drive away. This is a great location for a holiday which I couldn't recommend highly enough. Nick Tiplady

“Breath taking views - and that was just inside the cottage!” Our stay was with family, and I had not advised them of our accommodation, so to see their joy at the grandeur of the cottage was a fantastic feeling and a brilliant way to start our holiday. The master bedroom was like something out of a fairy-tale and the other 2 twin rooms were just as masterful in their appearance. The evenings spent in the dining hall chatting about our day’s excursions over dinner was an event in itself, and such a wonderful way to plan the next day’s itinerary – even if it did take several hours and few bottles of wine! It was a memorable say and fantastic value for money that I don’t think can be surpassed. I will and have recommended this to friends, family & work colleagues, they won’t be disappointed. Five Star accommodation, five star booking service and the information received by the management team & Christine prior to our stay was invaluable. A truly amazing experiance that you must try yourself.

“Wedding of our dreams!!!” There are no words to describe how amazing this property is. We stayed here in May 2015, for 3 days, with 18 relatives to celebrate our wedding. The typical British weather managed to hold off long enough for us to get married in the idyllic setting on the lawn underneath two magnificent trees. Jilly and her girls made sure that our stay was faultless with nothing being too much trouble. All of our guests were mesmerized by the venue each room lovingly restored with great thought and impeccable taste. The photos in each room to illustrate the scale of the restoration was a nice touch. A week to the day since we arrived, my only wish is that we could go back and do it all over again. Thank you to Jilly and Blencowe hall for making my wedding dreams come true.

“Heaven on Earth” Our stay at Hause Hall Farm and Kruik Barn was out of this world. Everything about the property was of the very highest standard. It was a haven of peace and tranquility and the perfect base for a large group of friends. The owner, Christine Rowley was very helpful and a great source of information about local resources and amenities.

“A fantastic cottage in a great location” The cottage is warm, spacious and well-presented. It has everything you could possibly need for a great holiday - stunning views, lots of wildlife, a well-equipped kitchen, a comfy bed and one of the best collections of Dvds and books we have come across. What's more, the location is second to none - on one hand you have the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, on the other there is the stunning Lake District. We also found a number of lovely local walks in and around Kirkby Stephen. In short, a walker's paradise! We will be back soon.

“Peaceful, comfortable and well-located.” The staff were friendly and helpful from the very start. We loved our log cabin, which was very spacious and had a lovely view from the porch. Bird feeders attracted a wonderful assortment of birds, to watch as we sat outside. We had our puppy, Lucille, with us and the balcony was great for her. There were other dog lovers there, which was fun. We used the pool, the takeaway, the shop and the bar: all good. Too wet to use the tennis or football outdoor facilities, but good to know they were there. It was a good place to explore The Lakes from and we travelled each day. Saw a fabulous production of "Great Expectations" at the Theatre on the Lake in Keswick. Explored the visitors' centre at Brokole, which is almost next door and had many things to do.

Elk Cottage
The Ritz-Carlton of vacation rentals

Superb. Everyone in my family was impressed as soon as we entered the property, a place we would have been proud to call our own home. The photos in the Rowley Estates website capture the ambiance to some degree, but the reality is even better. Attention to details distinguishes it from other rental properties. Just to note a few examples: - spotlessly clean - furnished and decorated tastefully, and as you would a real home - generous welcome basket (bottle of wine, bread, cheese, juice, milk, cereal, variety of fruits, etc) - bbq grill, _and_ a bag of charcoals and new-looking bbq toolset - umbrellas - laundry detergent - variety of glasses for different types of wine: red, white, champagne - Hand blender - some toys for the kids We are very much looking forward to more opportunities to stay at Elk cottage and other properties managed by the Rowley Estates.see more
Melmerby Hall
Everything we hoped for.........and a lot more!

We rented the property for our daughter's enormous and extended wedding after deciding that it offered everything we required-space, beautiful grounds, stunning ground floor rooms and spacious attractive bedrooms with ensuites. The wedding was a complicated occasion which required considerable organising, but throughout the whole process the entire team involved with Melmerby Hall were helpful and answered queries and requests extremely promptly. Special thanks should go to all the housekeeping staff who keep the Hall in an exemplary manner, the groundsman Gavin, Helen who observed the registry part of the marriage in an unobtrusive manner, Charles and Christine, who dealt with our many questions and lastly Gilly who has been incredibly helpful and a fantastic advisor throughout the wedding planning and actual wedding. Melmerby Hall was described by one wedding guest as a magical kingdom, it certainly was for our special occasion.see more

Home Hall Farm
A lovely house in a sublime setting

We loved this farmhouse, which has been intelligently restored and very nicely decorated. Our family was gathered for a wedding - held in another of the Rowley Estates properties - and the house accommodated eight of us very easily, particularly as each of the extremely comfortable bedrooms has its own bathroom. The kitchen is well equipped and we enjoyed using the Aga, although there is a conventional oven and a microwave there too. The situation of the house is spectacular, looking out over the fells beside Ullswater, and the outside space has been designed to take full advantage of the setting: there is a terrace and a grassy garden which were hard to leave behind, even in the soft rain. The large, good quality, TV went down very well with the younger members of the family and the dog enjoyed gazing wistfully at the Herdwick lamb, which, curious, squeezed through the gate most mornings before being shooed back into its field. There is little that we didn't like: some of the terrace furniture is a bit rickety and the internet slowed down to a stop when we were all using it at the same time. There really is NO mobile phone reception, but there is a landline, which was a real advantage. The nearest food shop is quite a long way down the mountain and this should be borne in mind; we anticipated this somewhat and had a Tesco delivery (heroic, to get his van up those hairpin bends), but didn't order quite enough and ended up begging a 'mountain rescue' of eggs and potatoes from the extremely kind ladies of the Howtown Inn, just down the road. Next time, we'll stock up with provisions at the wonderful Tebay farm shop on the M6 just before/after Penrith. Dealing with Christine and Jilly over the booking and logistics was a pleasure. We felt very well looked after by them both and much look forward to returning to the house one day soon.see more
