About Lexington

Lexington is the second largest city in the whole of Kentucky and is centrally located in the Bluegrass Region. If you can imagine a wheel with spokes, then you'll get a grasp on the layout of the city. The downtown area is in the middle and the roads leading from the center travel into the remote fields, where the horses reside.

Rewinding back to the 1700s, the fertile soil and array of wildlife made a great local trade between native Americans and Europeans. These days, it is one if the main areas for thoroughbred horse breeding and racing, as well as the many museums which contain artefacts of the sport and horsing world.

Lexington has even been ranked as the seventeenth-cleanest city in the USA, so If cities aren't your thing as a rule, you may change your mind when you visit this well-maintained little city.

What to do

As well as the emphasis on horses, Lexington is also a popular location for entertainment and the arts. Here you can come to view professional orchestras, theatre and ballets. If you travel at the right time of year, you might also catch one of the local events which take place. These include the Mayfest Arts Fair which takes place over Mother’s Day weekend, the Bluegrass and Broadway music festivals in early June. If you’re lucky enough to be there during the 4th of July, you'll get to experience the biggest holiday in Lexington.

While in Lexington it is worth visiting their most popular sports team, the Kentucky Wildcats, which are part of the University of Kentucky.

There's also plenty of museums to visit such as 'Ashland: The Henry Clay' estate, which is the most famous in the downtown area. This historic building was once the home of Henry Clay himself.

Comfortable and Tidy

Location is more on the suburban but just a few short miles from downtown fun. About 20 minutes away from the horse park but in a great location for food and activities. Our stay was comfortable and included all that we needed for our stay. We would be happy to stay here again in the future. … see more
