“Superb all year round holiday home” We have just enjoyed our second holiday at Southwaite Green - this time at Beckside to accommodate further family members. It is a luxurious, open plan, light and airy cottage, but with a warm and cosy feel provided by the easily controlled under floor heating. The bedrooms are very comfortable and all have their own beautiful en suites or bathroom. We ate in most of the time and found the kitchen extremely well equipped and easy to work in. We enjoyed eating in the dining area with its French doors on to a south facing patio overlooking stunning views. The patio is also a super place to eat or sit and relax on sunny days. Back indoors, however, there is a large cabinet for drying walking gear on wet days - so everything is catered for, including of course a really comfortable lounge to relax in at the end of the day. The site has been extensively planted with trees and shrubs. There are also picnic areas and viewing points â€“ superb to watch the evening sun lighting up the mountains. The owner lives on the site and is always on hand if needed and happy to answer questions about her eco friendly holiday home project. Having stayed in the Windermere area in 2006 we found the Western side of the Lake Distinct much more peaceful and relaxing. Southwaite Green is in lovely surroundings and close to so many areas of outstanding natural beauty. It's a five minute drive to Cockermouth, a pretty town (even after the floods), with William Wordsworth's early childhood home. It also has a supermarket for those wishing to cook at home, but there are plenty of places to eat out. The larger town of Keswick is only about a 20 minute drive away. The whole holiday experience was excellent and it was good to be able to carry on recycling our rubbish whilst away. Our only regret was that we were too warm to light the wood burning stove!
