“RELAXING WEEKEND” Had a wonderful time. Most relaxing weekend that I have been able to enjoy in years. The scene is awesome and good people all around the water. I hated to leave, but have already made arrangements to come back for another weekend before the summer is up. I would highly reccomend this place if you are looking for a place to relax or just kick back. The only problem with staying there was we had to pack up and leave and the end. Thanks for giving us the memories. Thanks Shawne Estep

About Oklahoma

A city which has undergone a pretty radical transformation in recent years, Oklahoma is today more upmarket yachting than cow trading. Its fascinating Cowboy and Indian history is still there in the city's museums, but its newer face shows in hip areas such as Bricktown with its chic restaurants and canal tours.

To discover more about the city, pick a vacation rental slap bang in the middle. FlipKey has plenty to choose from, so why not start there?

About Oklahoma

As “The Cowboy State”, Oklahoma boasts plenty of prairies and plains. As you explore, it's almost irresistible to picture Indians behind every large mountain rock face or a cowboy's horse munching grass in a pretty meadow.

Oklahoma City is the state capital and derives its name from the Choctaw Indian tribe who were moved here during the Indian clearances (also known as the Trail of Tears). In fact, the name Oklahoma is from the Choctaw language and translates as 'red people'.

It's all very cosmopolitan today though, to the extent the city actually has quite a reputation for Vietnamese food in its Asian District near Classen. In the former industrial railroad garage, known today as Bricktown, you'll find restaurants aplenty.

Outdoor enthusiasts meanwhile have Lake Hefner, the Martin Park Nature Centre and even a huge skate park downtown.

What to do in Oklahoma

Try out a Coconut Cream Stout at the Battered Boar Brewing Company in Bricktown. It’s miles away from your ordinary beer and definitely something you’ll remember! And while you're in the neighborhood, you might want to take a look at the American Banjo Museum or have lunch in one of the pretty canal-side restaurants.

When in Oklahoma, you must visit the city's National Stockyards. This cattle auction can only be accessed via planks of wood balanced on scaffolding (for better views of the animals). For a glimpse of real cowboys—and great meat loaf—there’s nowhere better.

Another 'must see' is the Oklahoma City National Memorial & Museum. A water feature with black granite and a park of empty chairs beautifully and solemnly pays respect to 168 individuals who lost their lives in the bombing in the early nineties.

Visit the Museum of Skeletons (or rather, Osteology). The only skeleton museum in America, you'll find the bones of just about every animal on earth.

Top travel tips for Oklahoma

Don't visit in spring unless you're fine with thunderstorms and the possibility of big winds. Oklahoma City sits in an area known as 'Tornado Alley.' The movie Twister was filmed right here - that's how rough it is.

Going into town? Then save yourself some cash and hop on the Downtown Discovery bus if you spot it—it's free.

A taxi ride into the city from Will Rogers World Airport costs around $25. The city's EMBARK buses run every half an hour during the week and hourly on Saturday. It's also possible to travel by river cruiser—and in a climate-controlled cabin, no less.

A city which mingles its Wild West past with a contemporary, modern appeal, Oklahoma is certainly well worth a visit. It's a busy and 'happening' location, but the canal rides and city parks offer a more tranquil side, too. Come here and you'll find the city has a justified reputation for friendliness.

Oasis One On The River
Beautiful

The cabin was clean and well stocked, more so than other cabins I've stayed at. The tram was very convenient, just a short walk to the water. We loved it and will be back soon! … see more
Second Rustic Cabin
Amazing cabin!

When you first walk in, there is a wonderful smell, was clean & quaint. The guinea fowl gang that came out at 7:30pm was one of my absolute favorite things, walking and cackling to one another as loud as peacocks - made me smile! Their cows on the property were kept in excellent condition and had a whole property to roam and the pond right in front of cabin was stocked with fish and I caught 14 fish over a 2day period and we were the only ones there! Finally, they had THE best wine I've ever tasted and the people were welcoming. They didn't have WiFi,which was the only downside but the property itself made up for it by forcing you to get outside your cabin and enjoy the fresh air. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay! Thank you!see more
Luxurious Brown Bear Cabin
Fall Break at Brown Bear

We had the pleasure of staying at the Brown Bear over my daughters fall break. The cabin is extremely nice and accodomated our entire family and friends. We had a great time, one except the water in the hot tub did have a unpleasant odor so we were not able to enjoy that aspect otherwise everything was top notch!see more
Studio Apartment by Downtown in OKC's #1 Neighborhood
Very nice garage apartment centrally located

Very nice garage apartment in a beautiful tree lined neighborhood walking distance from Midtown Oklahoma City. Two quibbles: a) there was no place to hang up clothes b) the owners’ request that we take off our shoes while in the apartment was a bother that we complied with. Other than those two quibbles, a very nice place.see more
Family Fun for all ages Pine Creek Lake
Cabin in the Woods

Our family had such an amazing time at this cabin! The owner Debbie was so helpful through phone calls and text messages if I had any questions. The cabin was beautiful, had lots of board games and outdoor games and was extremely clean. It was nicely secluded from any noise and we really felt like we were in the woods away from city life but yet it was close enough to Broken Bow and the lake for canoeing and fishing. We felt right at home and can’t wait to go back!see more
Tenkiller Lake The Lodge at Strayhorn Cove
Great Getaway Place

This place is roomy yet cozy! Our life group of 6 couples with 5 adult children and there was still room for more. The cabin is surrounded by trees for privacy and shade, no internet made us put our phones down and strive for a different connection as well. You are right on the water to enjoy the kayaks they had available and room to tie up your boat. Randy is a super nice guy and was available to answer questions and check in on us to see if we needed anything. All in all, this is a place we will be coming back to!see more
