“Wow! You'll love the Red Sunset!” Are you looking for a luxury guesthouse near Lake Arenal and Arenal Volcano? If so, look no further and book yourself into the Red Sunset. My husband and I, along with six friends, spent a week in March there. We are so glad we did! We found the accommodations to be everything they were advertised and more. The views are amazing and the house, pool house and grounds will give you plenty of opportunities to relax and explore. While the guesthouse is excellent, the very best feature is the owner/operator Patrick. Patrick met with us each day to help us plan activities and make reservations with the best tour operators. His local knowledge and recommendations were spot on each day, and his help was invaluable. The breakfast provided each morning was a highlight unto itself. Come prepared to eat well – you won’t be disappointed. We’ve never had meals of this quality at similar style lodgings. We also took advantage of the optional evening Chef services. While there were several great places to eat in the Lake Arenal area, all of which were recommended to us by Patrick, you won’t beat the meals prepared by Patrick and his wife. Our favorite was the Chicken Parmesan – sorry, Mom, but it was the best we’ve had anywhere! The Red Sunset was the perfect place for our Costa Rica vacation. We arrived as guests and soon felt like family. We’re glad we chose the Red Sunset!

“Wonderful experience!” We loved our stay at the Forest and Surf Villa. The house is an architectural gem - very open, beautiful wood, gorgeous views of the ocean. We spent most of our time on the porch swing. We traveled with an infant (5.5 months), toddler (2.5 years) and four adults (including two seniors) and it all went so well. A gorgeous, quiet beach is a short drive from the villa. We heard lots of monkeys, but they were never a nuisance. The beds are comfy, there is a washer and dryer and the place comes with two surf boards and yoga mats. It also stays fairly cool there - compared to the beach. We were never bothered by mosquitoes. Things to know: the drive down to Sjds is long-ish and bumpy, so get supplies in advance. It is very helpful to bring a flash light or headlamp for when you get back after dark, although the paths to the villa are well lit. We didn't have hot water or wireless for the first two days, but it was then fixed (probably would have been fixed sooner, but it was Christmas). The lighting in the kitchen is unpleasant and the kitchen needs more glasses and bowls and a big cutting board. These are all small things, though - we loved our time there.

“Two Family Vacation” Our two families visited Casa Loma this last winter and had a blast!!! The accommodations are great with plenty of room, good supplies in kitchens, clean and wonderful. The view is just incredible as you are up on a hill and can sit in the ocean breeze and watch the boats bobbing in the blue ocean bay. The grounds are kept immaculate and you can enjoy the colorful plants and flowers while luxuriating in the cool, refreshing pool. As hosts Tom and Igor can not be beat. They are there to check you in and from tree on can help you as much or as little as you desire. They gave us great tips on tasty restaurants and fun things to do! They recommended a zip line place that had short runs and newly installed long ones almost a mile long!!! Fun! :) The fish tacos they recommended while drinking a cold Imperial right on the beach was memorable while we watched the sunset. There was also a new coffee shop at the bottom of the hill where we could get a latte and homemade pastry. When it was time to leave the nine of us were tearful as we had so much fun, made friends and really enjoyed the conversation and time spent with our hosts. Plans are already underway to go back later this year and experience Shangri La one more time!!!

“Unique and special!” Once againwe have had the pleasurable experience of spending 2 memorable month at Villas Casa Loma.The weather was absolutely perfect for the entire time that we were there.We loved watching the birds off of our private balcony,sunny morning spent on beaches of the area and afternoons around one of the tropical swimming pools,surrounded by gently waving palm trees.What a terrific way to relax! Evening were generally cool with light breezes.Great for sleeping! Our hosts Tom and Igor were generous with their time,taking us on shopping,various beaches when they could find the time.One of our favourites was Playa Danta and Lola's Restaurant.Pure magic! To visit Villas Casa Loma is to experience a whole new way of relaxing. Thanks to the delightful staff,we were spoiled without ever feeling over-pampered. “Well deserved rave reviews !” Everything wonderful you read here is true ! We stayed at Villas Casa Loma for a month of warmth... away from the cold northeast. Our villa #301 was exactly as shown and more spacious than expected. The view of the harbor from our terrace was beautiful at morning coffee time and breath taking at sunset ! We are a couple in our late 60's and were very happy to have a rental car to get down the "mountain" for activities. There are many charming small towns nearby to explore,lots of nice restaurants and convenient shopping for groceries. We also spent many days just enjoying the beautiful pool and the company of the other guests. If we ever return to Costa Rica, I can't imagine staying any place but Villas Casa Loma with Igor and Tom !

Whether you are vacationing at Villas Casa Loma as a young family, through to a senior such as my mother you will be able to experience life, fun, peace and tranquility at its fullest. We met other vacationers who continue to stay at Villas Casa Loma each time they go to Costa Rica, sometimes staying for six months at a time...we can understand why as we will definitely be returning! “Great Villa Holiday for Rest and and Relaxation” My wife and I recently spent a few days at Casa Loma in Playa Flamingo. Having never been to Costa Rica we conducted a lot of research trying to find a villa where we would find peace and rest with plenty of sunshine after a month of a nasty Winter. We have rented villas for over twenty five years in several countries and have learned to know what we like. First we want a first rate location close by the main reasons for being in the place to begin with. If we are in the South of France we want to be near the museums and the beach. In Costa Rica we wanted a good beach nearby, we got that. Costa Rica beaches can be wild, brown sand beaches with rip tides not what we were looking for at all so our research put a calm white sand beach near the top of the list. Casa Loma has that just a few minutes away. We wanted a pool so we wouldn't be forced to leave the property every time we wanted to take a dip. Casa Loma has to big beautiful pools from which to choose. We were looking for quiet in the villa where we could be together and sun, read, cook, eat and sleep without road noise and bright lights. We got all of that in Casa Loma. Maybe the most important thing we were looking for was a real villa experience not just some 2 bedroom condo built in the big building boom of the past decade. Our view was if we wanted Florida we would go to Florida we were looking for the kinds of villas we rent on the French Riviera but with a Central american sensibility. We got that at Casa Loma. The view from the acreage looks very similar to many we have seen from places like Nice or Villefranche looking over to Cap Ferat. The owners of Villa Loma live on the property and are very nice people and will help you out with anything you might need to deal with while there. We will very likely revisit in the future which is our best endorsement.
