“Peace and alpacas” We booked this property in early October without a thought for the weather, however two weeks before our arrival, the snow fell heavily in the UK. I kept in contact with the owner who assured us they would get us into the fairly remote property at least as they owned a 4x4. The plan was to arrange a Tesco home delivery on the day that we arrived, but the on-line service had stopped taking any more bookings due to the snow. So a quick shopping expedition on our way to North Yorkshire and we were excited. The place is about 1/2 mile off the main road and we found it no problem even in the dark. We were met by Kaye, the owner who soon put us at ease and after a quick run down of the cottage, explained where the local hostelry was. I had been nominated chef for the week, so a quick search round "my kitchen" put me in a great party mood. It was perfect, everything to hand, clean and well equipped. It is a farm cottage on a working smallholding with dogs, chickens, sheep and the alpacas over the fence. The property has a large comfy double bedroom and in the lounge the comfiest sofa bed I have ever slept on. It has constant hot water, a great shower and a stable door to look out into the foldyard. We spent lazy days at home, with the small TV, and plenty of books in the property it was a relaxing break. We are not walkers or ramblers but spent our time equally between "the Bay" and Whitby exploring the lovely shops, pubs and harbour. You cannot go to Whitby without buying smoked Kippers from Fortunes. you cannot visit the Bay without a couple of pints in the pub looking out to sea. We only needed assistance once in our front wheel drive car but the locals were as helpful as any you would wish to meet. Would we go again, you bet your auntie Nelly we would. Lovely cottage, Lovely people, Lovely area!

“A peaceful haven” The owners were on site and couldn't have been more obliging. The cottage was very clean, attractive and warm, ideally situated for all kinds of places to visit. Would definitely recommend it.

“Very relaxing” The property makes for an excellent base for travelling to the coast or the North Yorkshire Moors. The property owners are extremely friendly and helpful. The property is spotlessly clean. The pub is just two minutes walk across the road; the food and service are second to none and the staff are very accommodating and everyone is dog friendly. This was our second visit to this property and we will probably visit again.

Why Runswick Bay?

This tiny coastal village in the North York Moors is a real hidden gem. If you can handle the steep journey down to the bay, you'll enjoy a beautiful secluded beach. Book your next vacation rental in Runswick Bay and see North Yorkshire's best kept secret for yourself.

About Runswick Bay

Runswick Bay lies on Yorkshire's Jurassic coast, so this delightfully sheltered bay is an incredible spot to find fossils. Because of relatively high erosion in the area, some major finds have been uncovered here, with new digs happening regularly.

As it's located in one of the most beautiful parts of Yorkshire, it's no surprise that the views are well worth packing your camera for.

What to Do

Ask the locals about the area’s legends - there's a lot of them and they're quite fascinating.

Top Runswick Bay Travel Tips

The hill that takes you down to the bay is really, really steep. If you're pretty fit, you can walk it, but if not you'll need a car. Make sure to get there early to ensure you get a space in the car park.

For a delightful break in one of North Yorkshire's most beautiful villages, be sure to book your next vacation rental in Runswick Bay.
