About Seabrook Island

For a South Carolina beach and golf vacation near to historic Charlestown, look no further than private gated community of Seabrook Island. To find the right kind of accommodation to suit all your needs, visit FlipKey where you’ll find vacation rentals to suit all budgets.

About Seabrook

Located on the Atlantic coast of South Carolina, just 25 miles northeast of historic Charleston, Seabrook Island is a gated golf and beach barrier island similar to the nearby Kiawah Island, host to the 1991 Ryder Cup.

Having been tastefully developed in the 1970s, the heavily forested island was laid out in such a way as to not harm the ecosystem while laying down winding streets of condos and private houses lined with live oaks and hanging Spanish moss.

With 2.5 miles of pristine Atlantic beachfront, Seabrook Island is home to a variety of seabirds and is a nesting ground for Atlantic loggerhead turtles.

In 1996 Seabrook Island’s two golf courses were the first in South Carolina to gain certification as members of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf.

The island’s goal is to provide a safe secure environment in which to enjoy the perfect South Carolina vacation.

What to do

Seabrook Island vacations are all about relaxing in a beautiful environment where the beaches are never crowded. Backed by rolling dunes North Beach is the first part of the island to be touched by the rising sun and the perfect place to surf fish while watching dolphins pass by.

Families with children will appreciate Pelican Beach for its white powdery sand, golden sunsets and sheltered conditions where the gently flowing Edisto River empties into the Atlantic Ocean.

Biking is the best way to get out and explore the island and its nature while not playing a round of golf on its championship courses or swinging a racquet on one of 15 the professionally maintained clay courts.

Boat rentals and fishing charters are available, as are canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddleboards for exploring the low-country backwaters.

Don’t forget Colonial Charlestown and numerous Plantation Houses are all a short drive away.

Top Seabrook Island travel tips

With a mild climate that contains hot humid summers perfect for the beach and an early end to a short winter, Seabrook Island can be described as a year-round destination.

From June through November, keep a close eye on the weather, looking out for potential hurricanes that could put a dent in your vacation plans.

When visiting South Carolina’s Low-Country, mix up your vacation between days at the beach and days discovering American history from the colonial period right up through the Civil War. And don’t forget to try a traditional oyster roast, too!

Seabrook Island has all the makings of a traditional South Carolina beach vacation with the added touch of being in a resort where you’re able to prepare your own meals. Whether you’re looking to rent an entire house or just a small condo in Seabrook Island, you’ll find it on FlipKey.
