“Fantastic relaxing break in a beautiful area” We arrived late at night and the key was in the door of the cottage with the place lovely and warm and ready for us. We were given organic veg, chocolate, beer and plum cake as a gift! The cottage was beautifully done out inside with gorgeous sheep fleece rugs, an amazing view out of upstairs, and the bathrooms were fantastic with a walk in shower in the guest bedroom. It is located close to Loweswater and Crummock Water and Keswick is easily accessible for a cream tea! We ate at Cottage in the Woods and the Kirkstile Inn which I would thoroughly recommend to anybody - they both offer amazing food and are roughly 10mins drive away. We loved the views from the windows, excellent location and space offered by the cottage. The drying cupboard for our wet clothes was also a lovely extra! There aren't any negative points of our stay - I would definitely recommend this place (and already have done).

“Ideal holiday home” Our family really enjoyed our holiday in this beautiful quiet location. The house is very well equiped, very comfortable. The Shield family very welcoming, local eating houses very good but suggest booking for wheatsheaf as it is very popular and dogs are welcome. We found lots to do and Keswick is not far to go. The only negative was that the third bedroom is small and would be better as a single room. We would certainly return and recommend it to others.

“Wren's nest” We were made very welcome by the owners. Wren's nest may be small but fine for two. It's in a great position for walks, cycle rides and trips around the area.

“Nice cottage, all amenities provided” It was a lovely clean self-contained cottage; owners were very helpful and hospitable. Within easy reach of local attractions but hard to find initially. We enjoyed our stay.

“wet and wonderful...typical Lakes!” Excellent modern eco friendly house; underfloor heating needs careful use especially with the need, by the owner, to anticipate a cold snap 24 hrs ahead. Well kittec out, very comfortable house; alas the sofas were very low and difficult for older people. Great use of the surrounding land to good effect. Complex is well placed for the far west Lakes and close to Cockermouth which offers good, varied and enjoyable facilities. Very happy to return.

“Fantastic Group MTB Honeymoon!” We stayed at White Gables in end of april 2013 as part of a group of 12 Mountain Bikers. We were actually all on the honeymoon of two of the riders who had got married during the week! We had such a fantastic stay, in fact it was no less than perfect! The welcome was fantastic by the owners who we felt couldn't do enough for us. The property itself is spacious, modern, clean and warm and the layout suited us down to the ground with the lounge and kitchen area perfect for communal living, seating large groups comfortably. There are plenty of lovely bathrooms for all which is ideal when you are mountain biking and the property is situated very close to the local pub which is perfect for a group of bikers. We also had a meal there which was fantastic. So sorry for all the 'perfects' and 'fantastics' but I can't find any other words to describe our stay at White Gables. Book with confidence...we will be returning hopefully soon!

“Superb all year round holiday home” We have just enjoyed our second holiday at Southwaite Green - this time at Beckside to accommodate further family members. It is a luxurious, open plan, light and airy cottage, but with a warm and cosy feel provided by the easily controlled under floor heating. The bedrooms are very comfortable and all have their own beautiful en suites or bathroom. We ate in most of the time and found the kitchen extremely well equipped and easy to work in. We enjoyed eating in the dining area with its French doors on to a south facing patio overlooking stunning views. The patio is also a super place to eat or sit and relax on sunny days. Back indoors, however, there is a large cabinet for drying walking gear on wet days - so everything is catered for, including of course a really comfortable lounge to relax in at the end of the day. The site has been extensively planted with trees and shrubs. There are also picnic areas and viewing points – superb to watch the evening sun lighting up the mountains. The owner lives on the site and is always on hand if needed and happy to answer questions about her eco friendly holiday home project. Having stayed in the Windermere area in 2006 we found the Western side of the Lake Distinct much more peaceful and relaxing. Southwaite Green is in lovely surroundings and close to so many areas of outstanding natural beauty. It's a five minute drive to Cockermouth, a pretty town (even after the floods), with William Wordsworth's early childhood home. It also has a supermarket for those wishing to cook at home, but there are plenty of places to eat out. The larger town of Keswick is only about a 20 minute drive away. The whole holiday experience was excellent and it was good to be able to carry on recycling our rubbish whilst away. Our only regret was that we were too warm to light the wood burning stove!
