Mazamet is a picturesque town, nestled in the foothills of the Montagne Noire (Black mountains) which form one of the last pieces of the stunning Languedoc National Parc.

Once famous for it wool and tanning industry, Mazamet became one of the most prosperous towns per capita in the whole of France - the stunning architecture of the town's landmark buildings are evidence of this wealth.

Mazamet is set within the Midi-Pyrenees region - the site of some fantastic Medieval villages like the cite of Carcassonne, and the wonderful towns of Castres and Albi close by. In Albi there is a magnificent cathedral dating back to the 13th century as well as the Toulouse Lautrec gallery. In Castres, famous like most of SW France for its rugby, you can visit the Goya gallery.
Within easy reach of the town are some wonderful walks, cycling, a superb golf course, as well as lakes for fishing, bathing and boating. There are also a host a decent restaurants serving wonderful regional food, including fois gras and roquefort cheese. Sitting in the middle of some of the finest red wine vineyards, wine lovers are also in for a treat!
There are numerous walks in the area. The Tarn department can offer you a centuries-old, 3,500 kilometer-long network of routes that are perfect for getting out and about. There are also many lakes in the Montagne Noire which are part of the Haut-Languedoc Regional Natural park. We can provide you with maps of these walks provided by the local Tourist office.

The region offers more than 20 tours, with 4 difficulty levels, from family outing level to experienced cyclists courses. Mazamet is the birthplace of Laurent Jalabert and his younger brother Nicolas, both professionals in road bicycle racing. For the serious cyclist the Black Mountains await!!
