“Wonderful autumn week” Our stay at this property was wonderful! The view of the rolling backyard and the location is idyllic. This was our first visit to Nantucket and this rental contributed greatly to a most pleasant experience. This home is spacious, comfortable and stocked with every amenity. Big screen tv with cable, kitchen with more than ample cooking supplies, wi-fi and oversized dining table that accomodated 8 of us are some of the comforts of home. House was very clean and ready for our arrival. Beds are comfortable with nice linens. Towels are plush and ample. Washer and dryer are an added bonus. Given that we visited in the off-season (the week of Thanksgiving), we made use of mild weather by walking (to the beach, around the cranberry bogs, to/from altar Rock and around Nantucket town). The beach is welcoming and observing the seals just 10 yards out was a thrill! We did some Black Friday shopping downtown. On rainy days we enjoyed the extensive collection of reading materials, especially the coffee table books on Nantucket! The owner is extremely helpful and readily available to address any concerns or questions. He recommended restaurants and offered suggestions. We loved the Whaling Museum but didn't allow ourselves enough time for a complete visit. Guess this means that we will have to go back! Overall, a great home and a great place. You must have a car as this property is located several miles out of town. “Paradise” We were in heaven! This property is secluded and beyond peaceful. The house looks out on a small harbor and quiet beach with rare birds. The sunsets are extraordinary and we enjoyed many nights lounging on the porch, drinking wine, nibbling cheese or grilling (freshly caught!) fish and watching the sky turn colors before it got dark (and then we were faced with brilliant stars--we're New Yorkers so we don't get night skies like this!) The house is spacious, yet very cozy. The master bedroom has an amazing (huge!) shower and jacuzzi. The living room has big comfy couches, throw pillows and a working fireplace. One night we roasted marshmallows and played cards. A perfect stay-in evening. I feel I should also say--this house is stocked! The kitchen comes with everything you could want if you're a foodie (we grilled, made mixed drinks, made sushi one night, baked muffins, everything.) There is great cable including HBO and a video library, as well as games for kids if you should need. We loved to bike some days to a nearby beach (Madaket, about 15 minutes away) where there was a little more action than our private one (a taco restaurant called The Westender and spot with bigger surf where we went to boogie board.) The house has beach balls, paddle ball, and buckets for building sand castles. The bikes provided by owners are in great shape and there were also helmets available. Additionally, we loved that there were ocean kayaks, though we didn't have a chance to use them. Mostly, I think we all appreciated that we could completely unwind in this peaceful spot, read, sleep in, enjoy the beauty of the island, etc., but also get into town quickly if we wanted to go out for dinner or get drinks. Getting to Cisco is also a pretty quick trip--and we went twice to the brewery to get a drink after the beach and listen to live music. Overall, this was one of my best vacations in recent memory. You must try this part of the island and

“Utopia!” This vacation home is absolutely spectacular! So close to everything yet a peaceful oasis of tranquility on the island. The grounds are stunning and well cared for. The home's lay out is very convenient for parents with kids and guests. The kitchen, living room and deck are great for entertaining. The owners are extremely accomodating and make you feel at home. We frankly hope they never sell it as we hope to visit every summer for many years to come. If you want a comfortable, clean, well appointed home for family and friends a little off the beaten path yet convenient to town and 'Sconset, this is a great choice!

“A Secret Gem on Nantucket” Searching for a quiet and relaxing end-of-summer experience, we found Lesser Light to be the perfect home from which to explore the Serengeti, the miles of bike paths and the solitude of a nearly-deserted Tom Nevers beach. Nestled away from the road and surrounded by beautiful island foliage, the property is a delight for all the senses. The cottage is immaculately maintained and well-appointed with an array of upscale amenities. The huge deck and outdoor shower are sheer pleasure after a bike-ride to the beach or just soaking up the sun on a quiet afternoon. The owners are attentive and gracious, providing prompt assistance and guidance for even the smallest of issues. The only difficult part of the stay was having to pack and leave what we now consider our Nantucket home. We are looking forward to experiencing the cottage in the off-season this year and for years to come.

“Luxurious, comfortable home with fantastic hosts!” I stayed in this gorgeous home with ten close friends for our good friend's wedding weekend. Our experience was superb! The real treat was that the house is utterly perfect for groups. The house has stunning and secluded outdoor space--we played lawn games, grilled, sunbathed, read, and ate outside all weekend long in what felt like a private island oasis. The Widow's Walk offered views of the ocean, stars, and surrounding maritime forest. Cooking for a large group was throughly enjoyable in the high-end and well-equipped kitchen. The house is open and conducive to socializing, but large enough that smaller groups were able to convene in separate sitting areas. All the rooms were beautiful with comfortable beds and bedding--no one felt that they'd gotten the short end of the stick. As a light sleeper, I appreciated the house's many doors, which allowed the night owls and early risers to sleep peacefully. Finally, our hosts were wonderful! They greeted us warmly and ensured that we had everything we needed. I left some important items at the house and Lauren generously shipped them to me the following day. This was my first time in Nantucket and I'd be thrilled to stay at this house again!

About Nantucket

The Atlantic crashes onto a shoreline of windswept beaches, rolling sand dunes, and rocky cliffs in Nantucket, MA. Relaxing in your vacation home, you can enjoy the quiet timeless lifestyle of a New England island retreat. Swim, surf, fish, or sail along the shore, then retreat back to your vacation rental at night.

When traveling around Nantucket leave the car at home, and chose from different bike paths that lead to all parts of the island. Ride past beautiful rolling golf courses, chowder shacks, and traditional New England cottages.

Here are a few additional suggestions for things to do in Nantucket:

  • See the Brant Point Lighthouse: This lighthouse was originally constructed in 1746 and is America's second oldest lighthouse. Serving as a beacon of light to sailors for over 250 years, this structure overlooks the harbor and is visible to guests arriving to the island by ferry.
  • Spend a day at Surfside Beach: Known for its massive waves, clean water and soft sand, this beach makes for the perfect day trip.
  • Explore the Coskata-Coatue Wildlife Refuge: See seals, fish, birds, and other forms of rare wildlife. With over 200 acres of dunes, white sand beaches, and valleys, this natural ecosystem is the perfect excuse to venture away from your vacation home and into the wild.
  • Visit the Whaling Museum: This museum is filled with artifacts that detail the island's past. Listen to lectures from whaling historians, watch movies in the gallery, or view unique exhibitions that help define old Nantucket.
  • Take a tour of the Hadwen House: This preserved historic home is a detailed architectural symbol of 19th century whaling life and culture.
  • Visit Milestone Bog: This historic walking area winds through the landscape of strange and fascinating cranberry bogs. Learn how cranberries are grown and harvested, and visit during the fall for the exiting annual Cranberry Festival.

Luxury vacation rental opportunities are available all year long in Nantucket. If you're looking for a summer rental, find a location within steps of the beach that offers fabulous views of the Atlantic Ocean. A beach rental may also be a beautiful place to stay during a Nantucket autumn or winter. No matter what season you choose to plan your visit, you'll have no trouble finding the perfect place to stay. You'll also find plenty of fun and memorable things to do. Nantucket cruises, romantic balloon rides, wine tastings, and historic walking tours are the perfect way to celebrate the winter holidays or enjoy an early spring Nantucket honeymoon.

Peace discovered

Whether you travel on spring weekend, an extended summer vacation, a fall escape or for winter solitude Canopache is the perfect setting. This well-designed home allows for all family members to find a private spot, yet the entertainment areas are spacious and readily accommodate large gatherings. The bedrooms are comfortable and the house is immaculate. We never find ourselves lacking for anything for our cooking needs. The location is stunning with a large, well-manicured lawn surrounding the home. There is plenty of room for yard sports and a yellow lab. Of course, the star is the view. From sunrise to sunset, there is a deck or porch that allows for stunning views of the sky and Nantucket's south shore. The owners are a pleasure to work with and they treat you more as a long time friend than a short term renter. We cannot wait for our next visit and cannot recommend the property more highly.see more

Dream Getaway

Our stay here was a magnificent treat. The house is stunningly beautiful and off the beaten path, the perfect combination of privacy with the best beaches on the island just a short drive or bike ride away. The quiet and calm of the house is beyond relaxing, if you are looking for a place to get away from the city or to find peace and calm, this is ideal, even the quality of the air is soothing. The house has a huge, beautiful outdoor deck, surrounded by a nature reserve, where we were able to spend afternoons reading and sunbathing, and the kitchen is very large and fully stocked and we had some wonderful, cozy evenings at home, cooking dinner and playing board games. It was terribly difficult to have to leave after only a few days, if we were able to we would spend a week here at least once every season! This is a truly unique and special place to spend a vacation.see more

Magical

We've been fortunate enough to stay at this property for two and a half months. Its the perfect blend of luxury and comfort. The wow factor is off the chart and we cherished everyday we were there. We have been visiting Nantucket for the past twelve years and we normally bounce around all over the island to try new places. This is by far our favorite. Amazing grounds, beautiful sunsets, extremely comfortable beds and cozy furnishings, fully equipped kitchen, space for large families or groups of friends, very close the uncrowded Sesachacha Pond and Quidnet Beach, walking distance to the trails in Squam Farm and the nicest, most accommodating owners. We thank Bob and Virginia for sharing their incredible home with us.see more

Charming, Beautiful, and Serene Retreat

My husband and I came to this beautiful cottage with our dog Jude for our honeymoon. The cottage is private, well decorated, and the outdoor space can't be matched. We loved the location on the island and was able to enjoy all that nantucket had to offer. To top it all off, Lauren, the owner, came by to say hello and congratulated us on our marriage. The process was so easy in renting the beautiful property and we ended up booking another vacation for September before we left. We can't wait to return to this beautiful spot many more times in the future. Truly a gem on this gorgeous island.see more

We got it all and more

What a delightful home to spend the week in. From the "Nantucket" feeling coming up the drive to the ambiance of the interior of the home, this house ranks a 10. Lauren and Ron are very accommodating. 5 couples in this house with lots of room to spare. Brian Cullen from rawbar yoho serves up a fantastic clambake, the back patio of the house allowed for plenty of room for that! Bicycles were delivered and we traveled along the bike paths nearby. Don't miss an opportunity to stay in this charming home and enjoy the peace and quiet of the Nantucket countryside while being just 15 minutes outside of downtown.see more
