Located on a lovely tree-lined block amid brownstones, this sunny 1 bedroom apartment is just a few minutes' stroll from Prospect Park, the Botanic Gardens and Brooklyn Museum. Get the true Brooklyn vibe in this hip and historic neighborhood known as Prospect Park Lefferts Gardens. A vibrant neighborhood with restaurants, shopping and great array of markets and stores, you will find everything you need within a short walk of the apartment. The subway is just a couple blocks away, for quick and easy access to Manhattan and other parts of Brooklyn (Parkside or Prospect Park stops of the B/Q trains, Winthrop stop of the 2/5 trains). Or take a pleasant walk through Prospect Park to reach Park Slope, Grand Army Plaza and the beautiful Brooklyn Library, or to discover nearby landmark areas such as Ditmas Park and Prospect Heights. Prospect Park offers great summer concerts and is a beautiful destination, especially the new Lakeside area (featuring a state of the art skating area and water park), the Boathouse, Carousel and Zoo. The arena at Barclay's Center is just 2 subway stops from the apartment, and features the world-renowned artists in concert as well as sporting events.
With large windows in each room, including the bathroom, the apartment is very bright and cheerful and provides a respite from the bustle of big City life. This apartment is equipped with everything you could need to feel at home. It has beautiful hard-wood floors throughout and provides all the amenities (flat-screen tv, cable, wifi). The apartment comfortably accommodates 4 people. It has a queen size bed in the bedroom and a full-size pull-out sofa bed in the living room - both the bedroom mattress and the sofa bed are brand new (replaced March 2014). The apartment itself is great (apart from one issue – more later). It's charming, well presented, nicely furnished and well equipped. There's plenty of natural light and, thanks to the high ceilings, seems to be larger than its actual size.
The neighbourhood isn't particularly interesting, although there's a couple of decent cafes on Flatbush Ave. The main attraction is the proximity to Prospect Park, which is a gem, and to the Q train at Parkside Ave, which provides a rapid trip to Manhattan.
The reason I cannot recommend this accommodation, however, is that the building in which it's located is really depressing. It's run down, poorly maintained and dirty. For example, the view of the central courtyard as you climb the (frequently cracked) stairs reveals a sad, garbage-strewn wasteland. I realise the apartment owner has limited control over this aspect of the accommodation, but I do think it's fair to warn potential renters of what's in store. After a couple of days, I found myself dreading returning to the apartment after a day's sightseeing or an evening's entertainment in Manhattan.
Also, it's worth repeating (as the property description states) that the apartment is on the fourth floor (third floor by Australian or British reckoning) of the building and that there's no elevator. That could be a real issue for less mobile travellers or those with very heavy bags.
My only concern with the apartment itself was a pervasive odour that was really noticeable on returning from a day's sightseeing and that eventually permeated shirts I had hanging in the wardrobe. Hopefully the owner will have located the source of this problem and rectified it.
Recommendable, nice apartment close to what you need

I stayed in this apartment for 10 nights and really enjoyed it. The apartment is nice with a good view to the street and contains everything you need for a stay in NYC. The neighborhood is very interesting and provides good stores and restaurants. Getting to Midtown Manhattan by train takes you about 20 - 30 minutes with a beautiful view of Lower Manhattan when you cross the Manhattan Bridge with the Q- or B-train. The owner was easy to reach and always helping and answering question.
You won't regret staying here!

This is our first Flipkey rental, and we were not disappointed at all! My sister and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Sonia's apartment. Located in a building with a historic feel, the apartment is beautifully furnished and tastefully decorated, with a comfortable sitting area and a spacious bedroom. The kitchen is also well-equipped for preparing meals and kicking back with a hot drink after a day of exploring Brooklyn or Manhattan. She also had some helpful maps and recommendations (like Park Slope!) when we arrived. As long as you are okay with some daytime neighbourly music (noises were always minimal at night during our 9-day stay) and the occasional clanging pipes that come with older buildings, you will enjoy your stay too.
The neighbourhood is vibrant and there are lots of little eateries and take out places to check out. There is also convenient access to two different subway stations (B/Q or 2/5 lines) within a 10 minute walk. Walking further north along Prospect Park, we found the Brooklyn Library and a small but lovely farmer's market on a Saturday afternoon which we enjoyed very much. We'd love to stay in the Brooklyn area again next time we're in town!

The flat is spacious and very bright! It has everything you wish for when you visit other town for a few days! The subway is only in 5-7 min away, and there are a lot of shops and small restaurants nearby. The neighboughhood is pretty quiet. Sonja is the perfect host who will do everything to make you stay comfortable and memorable. Will definetely stay here next time.
