With its oak-lined streets, Victorian townhouses, cafe terraces and breadshops, the Brooklyn neighbourhood of Carroll Gardens has a storybook charm all of its own. Unsurprisingly, the area is awash with celebrated scribes – author Martin Amis lives just round the corner – and tucked between the pages of this urban Arcadia you'll find a magic kingdom to delight all your senses. This three bedroom, two bathroom family townhouse has three floors and an enchanted garden, and is the perfect place to cosy up after a day exploring the New York Neverland.
The Wizards of Oz
The authors of your stay are an artistic union that work together on interior projects but whose greatest creation to date is their home.
Are you sitting comfortably? Then we'll begin. The adventure opens in the luminous surrounds of the ground floor. With its twin sofas, pouffes and whimsical rocking chair, it's a short tip-toe from the sitting room to the wood-beamed kitchen, where rustic wood flooring and burnished marble-top counters face the back garden. If it's a Mad Hatter's Tea Party you're after there are two dining rooms, decked in pastels and cool whites encasing a stylish world fusion of antique American chairs, armoires and Indian artistic curios. Beyond the elegant parlour soar to the top floor, where you can ease away your aches in the vintage claw foot bath tub or play Sleeping Beauty in the wrought iron bedsteads and William and Mary furnishings of the bedrooms and nursery.
Adventures in Wonderland
Manhattan may be where the wild things are but Brooklyn is no slouch for nightlife with nearby Smith Street a mecca for bars, boutiques and fine dining as well as a smattering of Italian eateries that recall the neighbourhood's immigrant roots. Art aficionados can wander by the Gowanus Canal where a nascent art scene of independent galleries is emerging from the ruins of industry, or cross Atlantic Avenue to the Brooklyn Academy of Music to see world-renowned theatre and dance. Or take a short walk east and savour the wind in the willows in beautiful Prospect Park, Brookyln's own answer to hundred-acre wood. If you want to explore Manhattan, hop on the F train, only a few blocks away.

Our family (2+3 kids) stayed at this home for New York retreat in august. Our experience was nothing but great. You live in the real Brooklyn neighborhood in one of the famous "brownstone" houses. Within 2 blocks you may find "your" local Hispanic grocery store, "your" Italian steakhouse and "your" milkshake and pancakes joint. F line subway that takes you to Manhattan is 7 minutes away up the street. The house itself is remarkable - is carefully and tastefully decorated with lots of books and multiple places inside you wish to just sit back and take rest. We loved the spacious kitchen and drawing room on the main floor. It actually has its own little garden in the back yard where you can set a barbecue under the fig-tree...The management, Onefinestay is simply flawless, they delivered on all of our requests, excellent service and very nice people. I've just realized this review may sound like paid advertising but as a matter of fact we've had great vacation in NYC and the house we selected was an important element of the overall experience.
