Description from owner

Description

Auchencairn is a traditional stone built crofting house that has been very carefully looked after to provide the perfect place for a relaxing and memorable holiday. Offering a very high standard of accommodation of traditional character, and lots of space, Auchencairn is 'home from home' and an ideal self catering holiday house in the heart of Sutherland, for families or couples. This traditional house is conveniently located on the edge of Brora, within walking distance of the beach, golf course, shops, distillery, pubs, and hotels.

Set in a private and secluded spot just off the main road, Auchencairn has lovely trees and mature gardens which surround it. A special feature in this house is the bright and spacious garden room with comfy sofas from which to sit and watch the wildlife and birds in the garden, or to feel the snug warmth from the log burning stove in winter. The sitting room has original wooden floors with open fire to give a lovely cosy feel in the winter evenings. The dining room has ample space to seat four comfortably for dinner with the garden room leading from it.

The first floor has access to a south-facing sun balcony, along with two spacious bedrooms each with views of the gardens, and bathroom with shower. There's no end of amazing activities, wonderful events and breath-taking landscapes to choose from in and around Brora. From hiking and bird watching, to fishing, mountain biking, and golfing, to colourful displays by tartan-clad pipe bands, or simply relaxing on golden sandy beaches, Auchencairn is a lovely place to spend your holiday.

Activities

Golf is very popular in this area with Brora having its own club and ones in Dornoch, Helmsdale and Golspie close by. For mountain bike lovers, just five miles away in Golspie, is the home to the award winning Highland Wildcat Trail, established in 2005 and covering 18km of routes of varying degrees of difficulty.

In the beautiful Brora Countryside and seaside features every imaginable habitat, so a wide variety of our fellow inhabitants can be seen in the wild, as nature intended. Otters can be seen on the River Brora and seals are often on the beach. Loch Fleet, south, between Dornoch and Golspie, forms part of a well known nature reserve with a wealth of sea ducks and waders. Here one may hope to see Osprey fishing.
