Description from owner

Description

Lovely old traditional croft house situated in the small elevated hamlet of Badnellan two miles from the coastal town of Brora with the spectacular combination of mountain and panoramic sea views across the Dornoch and Moray Firths. Dorus Dearg ("Red Door") was built in 1881 and has been in our family since the mid 1930's. Over the years it has been refurbished and enlarged sympathetically to its present comfortable condition. A double and a twin bedroom, both with wash basins, and an outside annexe with twin beds (no internal access), allow accommodation for up to 6 guests. There is a sitting room with an open fire and dining area with bay window from which to enjoy the scenery. There is one bathroom, with bath and shower and a good kitchen. The whole property is in good order and stands in its own several acres of woodland and pasture. Well positioned for walking, fishing, bird watching, golf and the beach this is an ideal location for family, sporting and recreational holidays. fishing on the rivers Brora and Helmsdale, and on the many nearby lochs is available through local agents. Sea fishing is also easily arranged. Even if you are not too successful with your catches, the surrounding magical countryside more than makes up for it! Birdlife is plentiful, with both inland native species and large numbers of sea birds at shore and sea-loch. The local golf links in Brora is a well laid out course in a magnificent setting overlooking the sea and only a few minutes drive away. Brora is one of several attractive towns on the UK's most north-easterly coastline linked by the A9 from Inverness to the south and John O'Groats to the north. There is a working harbour, variety of shops including a well stocked supermarket and several restaurants and cafes. There is even an Italian ice cream parlour dating from the second world war! The golf course and harbour are both a short walk from the town centre. Weekly bookings Sunday to Sunday or short breaks by arrangement.

“niet voor herhaling vatbaar”

Reviewed 30 May 2019

“Great location with lovely views”

Reviewed 22 Oct 2018

Lovely quiet location and scenic views.Village and beach are close by but you will need a car to get to them (about two miles or so).Good food served at the local pub. The Croft is quite dated but very comfortable and has every thing you will need for your stay but no dish washer. We will visit again as the bonus for us is that our relations live right next door.

“Lovely retreat”

Reviewed 17 Sep 2018

Stayed here for a week with my partner and in laws. From the moment we walked in the door we instantly felt the history and the character of the place which was further enhanced by the amazing views and surroundings of the croft. I would definitely recommend it. The village is friendly and has a shop, bakers and a general store and the beach is award winning and beautiful.
