Around the last bend of a gravel mountain road sets a cabin who's classic architecture surrounded by a natural environment creates a restful calming atmosphere that is called Almost Heaven. The parking area is wide and flat, allowing plenty of space to easily turn around when your ready to head out to explore the area. The gravel of the parking area continues around to the front of the cabin. A few steps up to the wide front porch. Here rocking chairs invite you to set awhile and watch the clouds drift across the sky and the birds play in the trees. Past the front porch is a low picket fence. The gate in the fence opens to a small side yard surrounded by the fence and graveled. In the center of the fenced in gravel side yard is a stone fire pit; where a relaxing evening's conversation seems to flow effortlessly when warmed by the glow of a fire. A few steps up from the yard is the side deck. On the deck is an out door hot tub, open to the fresh mountain forest air and calming scenic natural views. The warm massaging waters of the hot tub are the perfect place to shed the stress of your life and leave them mountains away. From the side deck around to the back of the cabin, is a covered dining area with gas grill.
If you can ignore the temptation of the rocking chairs and fresh mountain air on the front porch to enter the front door, you will step into a home that is as welcoming and calming as the natural environment outside the cabin. The first room you step into is the living room. The living room has a spacious interior with natural wood tone walls, cathedral ceiling and lots of windows to fill the room with light colored by the mountain forest surrounding the cabin. Leather sofas offer a comfortable spot to enjoy the warmth of the gas log fireplace or to catch the days weather forecast on the flat screen tv. Past the living room to the back half of the cabin is a full size kitchen with all cooking and dining utensils supplied. To the right of kitchen is the dining room. Here natural wood surfaces combine with a wide view of the natural forest to create a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy a romantic diner. The sliding door in the dining room allows access to the side deck and hot tub. To the left side of the kitchen are two doors. The door on the right is the entry level bath. The other room is a game room with a foosball and air hockey tables.
Additional amenities include: telephone for local or calling card calls only, fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, stone fire pit in yard, other features include central heat & air, non-smoking and is pet friendly, washer & dryer.TripAdvisor property ID 2122434...Read more
Behind the Nantahala Outdoor Center, about 5 minutes along a back country mountain road sets the large 1 bedroom log cabin getaway, Almost Heaven. The roads to the cabin are well maintained and generally easily driven by most vehicles. The area around the cabin is minimally developed and retains a peaceful natural setting. White water rafting and excellent restaurants are just a short drive back down to the Nantahala Rafting center. Mountain biking at the famous Tsali recreation center is around 15 minutes away. Bryson City and the Smoky Mountain National Park are a scenic 25 minute highway drive away. The Cherokee Indian Reservation entrance to the national park is another 10 to 15 minutes past Bryson City.

We wanted a getaway for our 7th anniversary and this met that expectation. It is away from other cabins, you can see them in the distance, but not next door. Quiet, relaxing, hot tub was clean and ran great. It snowed while we were here and we sat in the tub and watched the snow fall. The scenery was fantastic out of the front door. We could see hawks hunting in the distance just about every day. Clouds rolling in, stars at night. Bed was comfy and the big shower upstairs, there's another downstairs, fit my wife and I with ease. It was fantastic for rinsing off after the hot tub. We sat on the porch in the morning and drank coffee. There are a lot of dishes, cookware, coffee pot, silverware, nice fridge, stove was clean and worked great and a gas bbq grill that had a full tank of propane for grilling. Bring some firewood or pick it up at the Nantahala storre at the bottom of the hill (10 min). Just a great get away, would love to stay at this same cabin again in the future. I have nothing negative to say about this place.

My wife and I had a great experience staying at "Almost Heaven" in September 2013 for 5 days. Beautiful views from the hot tub on the porch. Very nice kitchen with the necessary items for cooking simple meals. Easy access to the Nantahala Outdoor Center (if interested in whitewater rafting/kayaking), Tsali Recreation area (for mountain biking), Fontana Lake (for flat water kayaking), and many other great outdoor experiences in the Smoky Mountains or along the at. This was a our 2nd time staying in a cabin managed by Carolina Mountain Vacations. Both times were great and thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable.

My husband & I really enjoyed our stay in this cabin. We were looking to get away for some total relaxation and found it here. There are 2 or 3 other cabins within view, but they did not at all affect us or impose on a feeling of privacy.
We planned all of our meals, shopped, and did all of our own cooking. The kitchen provided everything we needed. The nearest grocery store is 20-30 minutes away, and there is a bar/grill type restaurant at the NOC, about 7 minutes down the road.
The views were very pretty and peaceful from the windows, porches, and hot tub. We loved the outdoor firepit, though we only got to use it on our last night there because of rain. The fireplace was warm and cozy on the rainy indoor days. I got beat pretty bad in air hockey and foosball, but got my revenge in daily tournaments on the pool table upstairs. It was fun having all the game tables.
This is a really scenic area with great drives along the river. People were out to kayak, raft, and fish, anywhere they could find. Noc was having a weekend festival for all the at travelers. The day we left we drove to Smokemont to do some hiking -- about 30-40 minutes away.
Carolina Mountain Vacations were great -- fantastic website, easy check-in, excellent written directions to the cabin.
