Additional Location Information

"Las Cañitas" is the informal denomination of some 20 squares (manzanas) within the neighbourhood (barrio) of Palermo in Buenos Aires.
The name "Las Cañitas" comes from the fact that in the area existed a country house (quinta) named ‘Las Cañitas’ placed between the actual Luis Maria Campos street and the Libertador avenue. The ‘quinta’ existed until the beginning of the twentieth century. ‘Luis Maria Campos street’ was actually build over a path nearby the ‘quinta’ that was popularly called "El Camino de Las Cañitas".
In the beginning of the XX century, after the destruction of the quinta ‘Las Cañitas’ and several others ‘quintas’ nearby, some military buildings and hospitals were built.
The Polo field was opened where previously ‘La Sportiva’ and ‘Campo Hipico Militar’ have offered sport clubs’ activities for a long time. Between Dorrego avenue and Concepción Arenal street there was a ten meters wide boulevard of Eucaliptos trees where horse riders used to rest.
In the 1937 ‘Santa Adele’ church construction started was finished in the year 1939. It occupies an area which used to be football field -sometimes used as a place for circus-.
In the ninetieth this high and middle upper class neighborhood was enriched by the construction of high category building overlooking the River Río de la Plata, el Hipódromo, la Chancha de Polo and one of the best views of Buenos Aires city. Together with this, came along the opening of fine restaurants, pubs and night clubs, due to the increased popularity of the area and the high spending level of the people living in this ‘barrio’. Transformation that did not jeopardize the atmosphere of this leafy area thanks to the overall organization of the ‘barrio’ and its streets with low traffic.
Most of the restaurants and pubs are located along Baez, Arce and Ortega Gasset streets. The real good quality cuisine ranges from the typical 'parrilla' argentina to arabic, italian, indian dishes and some very good sushy clubs.
The shopping centre: ‘El Solar de la Abadía’ is also a very good choice for shopping and relax time. This shopping is very interesting because it was built recycling an old beer factory while keeping its original structure.
There are several toll parking places where you can park your car or you can park free on the right hand side of the street. Several bus lines are crossing the area reaching all points of interests in Buenos Aires.
