About Builth Wells:
Builth Wells is a small market town, in the middle of Wales but not far from the English border. It is a good base from which to travel to see the whole of Wales or just enjoy what the local area has to offer.
The town has a thriving Theatre and Arts Centre with cinema and live performances, a comedy club and programmed live connections to the National Theatre in London.
There is also a Leisure Centre and Swimming pool.
The River Wye flows through the town adding a wonderful scenic attraction. There are fabulous golf, fishing, walking and mountain biking opportunities.
There are 5 golf courses within easy travel including Builth Wells Golf Club and the highest golf course just over the border in England. Golf round here has often been described as "millionaires' golf" as the courses are beautiful, but outside of competition times, there is no wait. Indeed you might have them to yourself!
Locally, why not visit the Brecon Beacons and Brecon, Rhayader and the Elan Valley Reservoirs (spectacular) and Red Kite feeding centre or walk some of Offa's Dyke. Hay on Wye, the 'second hand bookshop of the world' and internationally famous for its annual literary festival held in May is only 45 minutes away.
Use us as a base to discover Wales, its castles, mountains, cities, history and beautiful coast..
Cardiff is 90 minutes away , Snowdonia and North Wales approx 2 hours away.
The Cardigan coast is about an hour away and the beautiful Pembrokeshire coast about 1 3/4 hours journey. There are many places in between worth a visit including the Museum of Welsh Life and the Big Pit, a former coal mine now open for the public to go down!
We are not far from the English border - Hereford, Worcester and Shropshire - all of which have historic places to visit. Hereford Cathedral is home to the Mappa Mundi, the oldest map of the world Herefordshire has the Elgar Trail, his home and the Black and White trail, visiting picturesque black and white villages.
London is about 3 hours away by car. Perhaps not a day trip but might be part of your stay? As a Londoner myself, I can give you some pointers as to where to go.
Other major cities and areas are more possible as a day out by car - Birmingham, Oxford, Cheltenham, Gloucester, Cirencester, Bristol, Liverpool, Manchester, The Cotswolds, Forest of Dean, etc.
We are very happy to assist you in developing an itinerary for your stay.
Many people have family links and roots in Wales. We are happy to help you try to trace your family background while you are here.
If you want to see Wales there is no doubt that you will need to have or hire a car as public transport is not the best. We will offer transport as we can (locally free but distance at cost).
Please see the photographs and get an idea of what we offer.
We would love to see you.TripAdvisor property ID 2062293...Read more
