AVOID USING THE BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY BEFORE MAY FIRST, OR AFTER DECEMBER FIRST, AS IT MAY (NOT ALWAYS, BUT POSSIBLE) BE CLOSED FOR ICE AND SNOW.
From Asheville -- go east on I-40 towards Statesville. As you descend after passing the village of Ridgecrest (home to Billy Graham), watch for the first exit for town of Old Fort. Take this exit and it puts you on NC70 going through Old Fort (one stoplight), continue on about 9 miles to a light at intersection with NC80. (There’s a great little Italian Restaurant on the corner, “Mama Irena’s Little Sienna”). Go left, follow NC80 up into the mountains, about 15 miles you’ll pass under the Blue Ridge Parkway, keep going another 6 miles pass by Hemloch State park. Go over large concrete bridge, Turn right onto Colberts Creek Rd. Go .7 mile to small bridge pass over turn left onto Rock Creek rd go another .9 mile, look for A.F. Simmons rd on right. turn on A F Simmons and go another .4 mile and 425 (Cabin On Rock Creek) is on your left..

Mount Mitchell Golf Course - Rated 4 1/2 stars by Golf Digest one of the best public courses in the mountains, centered on the South Toe River which comes into play on almost every fairway on the back nine.
Black Mountain Campground - Within the Pisgah National Forest and along the South Toe River watershed on Mount Mitchell`s eastern slope. Hunting, Fishing, waterfalls, hiking trails, RV dump station, RV and tent camping.
Setrock Waterfalls - located at Black Mountain Campground, about 1/2 mile hike, cascading waterfall of over one hundred feet.
