Additional Location Information

Calasetta, the Sulcis Archipelago and the mainland Sardinian coastline (Palma's Gulf) opposite its three island of Sant'Antioco, San Pietro and Isola Piana are rich in flora and fauna, while the beaches and coves in the area are surrounded by crystal clear seawater.
Sant'Antioco Island is absolutely worth to visit and discover.
The unspoiled landscape, the easy-going local people, the fabulous traditional food and the island’s simple lifestyle all combine to relax the visitor’s mind and delight the senses.
Emeraldine sea and white beaches, cliffs, grottos and amazing landscapes visible both by land as by sea make the island perfect for sunbathing, dive and enjoy.
Out of the touristic mainstream, Calasetta is enjoyable even during high season peak, but the sunny and mild weather allows guests to visit the island even in the low season (October, November, December, March and April), and appreciate the richness of flora like wild orchids and mediterranean bush and vegetation, or fauna like wild birds as flamingos, herons, hawks and buzzards.
Calasetta is located on the tip of Sant’Antioco Island which is linked by a bridge to main Island Sardinia, so it’s easy to drive to Calasetta coming from elsewhere in Sardinia.

The closest major airport is Cagliari’s Elmas International Airport which is a 70 minute drive away.
The airport provide a very convenient train shuttle to Carbonia Serbariu Railway Station, the trip takes 50 minute.
We can arrange for our guests a taxi / van service from and to both Carbonia Station and/or Cagliari Airport.

There are many ferry services linking Sardinia to mainland Italy throughout the year particularly during the summer high season. The closest port of arrival is Cagliari. The port is at walking distance from the Railway station, providing trains to Carbonia Serbariu. We can arrange for our guests a taxi / van service from and to both Carbonia Station and/or Cagliari port.

Calasetta is one of the two municipality on the Island, a nice and peculiar fishermen’s village located on the north west cape of the Island, surrounded by crystal seawater.
The village of Calasetta was founded in 1770 by colonist from Genoese origin that were leaving the island of Tabarka in Tunisia, where they stayed for almost two centuries. The village is inhabited all year around by 2900 people and lives mainly on fishing, agriculture, sailing and tourism.
People here keep both mediterranean and Genoese tradition in a peculiar combination which mixes Cus Cus with Italian cuisine and flavors.
The houses is located in the very center or a stone throw away from the village center, close to the Savoy Tower the port and the main square.
The port of Calasetta developed thanks to the wine trade and alongside with commerce on products from tuna fishing. The port is now home to many fishing boats and sailboats, particularly the typical wooden boat with square sail, so-called “Latin”.
You can walk to the port to find fresh fish in the late morning when fishermen came back from sailing or to rent a rubber dinghy to sail around. You can also go to the ferry terminal and ship to San Pietro Island for dinner and enjoy a walk in the nice small town of Carloforte.
On wednesday morning a market take place at the port, you can buy fresh vegetables, fruits, typical cheese, bread and souvenirs.
At night along the Via Roma promenade you find bars with music and the harbor promenade is alive with stalls of local products and African clothes for a walk and a funny and cheap shopping.

We can help in arranging island tours with 4WD car or boats, as well as excursions with local expert guides to arts, landscapes, birdwatching and wild orchids watching.

Car, bikes, motorbikes, rubber dinghy and boats' rental are available in Calasetta. Prices and availability depends on the season.

With a 20 minutes trip by ferry, you can reach Carloforte town on the Island of San Pietro, right in front.
We provide updated timetable and maps of the Island.
We can also recommend friends' house to let in case our guests decide to spend some time in the beautiful village of Carloforte or the closest Sant'Antioco town.
Sant'Antioco is the oldest town in whole Italy. We give all the informations to guests to admire the church, the catacombs, the Ipogeic village as well as the Archaeologic Museum there.

Worthwhile visits and tours in the nearby include Tratalias, and abandoned, erstwhile village that has been given a second life with a non-invasive, well-done restoration, saving several homes and converting them to charming artisan workshops and Porto Pino white protected dunes full of wildlife and wild flora.
