Broken Gum Country Eco Retreat is a unique and restful Bed and Breakfast holiday accommodation. If you're looking for time out to recuperate, a family holiday or just to get away from the hum drum of city life, then Broken Gum is the perfect place for you.

Nestled in country South Australia, just 50 minutes east of the Adelaide city centre, and on 150 acres of rolling tree studded countryside is our beautiful 3 bedroom, limestone and recycled timber, loft homestead, fully self contained with stand alone solar power and triple filtered rainwater. The open plan downstairs kitchen, dining and relaxation area, boasts a slow combustion, plus wood stove, great for cooking delicious meals in winter and providing piping hot water. The LP gas stove is good for cooking during the summer months. Upstairs is a beautiful open area for relaxing and enjoying spectacular views. This area can also sleep an extra 2 people.

Individuals, families and groups love this property. Kids delight in collecting eggs from free range chickens. A favourite pastime is spotting kangaroos and a variety of lizards, ranging from the tiny painted gecko to the larger goanna. The birdlife is spectacular, from the tiny spotted finch and blue wrens right through to the majestic wedge tailed eagle. The campfire setting is perfect for sharing stories, toasting marshmallows and star gazing on still clear nights. 20 acres of virgin scrub houses some of the rarest native orchids in the region and is a delight to wildflower enthusiasts in the springtime. Kangaroos can often be seen bouncing through this delightful area.

The property also houses South Australia's first Carbon Neutral Canopy Project of 14,000 eucalypts, acacia, melaleuca and other native species.

There are stunning panoramic views of Mount Barker and Lake Alexandrina, plus breathtaking sunrises, sunsets and moon rises.

For a change of pace, DVD player, a collection of CDs and DVDs, TV, ipod docker and radio plus internet access is available on request.

All in all, a unique and restful holiday accommodation awaits you. We know you will love your stay and will want to return again and again.

As our guest you will have the whole cottage to yourself. The door will be unlocked on your arrival so you just move in and make yourself at home. Outside dogs only are permitted. We leave our guests alone to enjoy their break but am happy to show guests around the property or share local interests and places to visit.

What a beautiful, beautiful place! Far from the hustle and bustle of the city, but close enough to enjoy it. Loved the warmth and homely feel. Will definitely stay again
