Additional Location Information

This is the 'quiet Riviera'. The locals say it is the Riviera as it used to be. The studio is attached to one side of our villa. We are located 20km west of Cannes and are just up the hill from the Mediterranean. It is a short walk (<10min) down to the beaches and restaurants. We are adjacent to the red-rock Esterels where the hiking and the views are endless. About half of the villas are owned by locals who live in them, the other half are like ours and are used as vacation properties. Our little hamlet is serviced by local trains (~12 per day in either direction) and local buses. The bus stops are ~10min walk downhill, the train ~15. This region is very hilly- the walk up from the train with luggage is challenging- we do it every time we arrive and we are pushing 60! Having a car is definitely an asset- no need to plan around the bus and train schedules, or to pull luggage and groceries uphill. There is loads of parking onsite. There are quite a few golf courses within a 30-min drive and wineries abound. Scuba-diving is available at the marina. We even have a casino about 15 min. down the road- not to be mistaken with the Geant Casino which is a mega-grocery store about 15 mins. away. Miramar, Theoule-sur-mer, Mandelieu-la-Napoule and Cannes are just to the east, St. Tropez is a longer drive to the west. The region is beautiful, with palm and olive trees, cacti, rosemary and thyme and bayleaf growing everywhere. Lavender and agapanthus provide a punch of purple to the landscape. It is truly a little piece of heaven.
Most vacationers come to explore the region. Their typical day includes breakfast on the balcony watching the ever-changing Med., then they are off for the day to sites that interest (Roman ruins in Frejus, castle in Mandelieu or Theoule, St. Tropez, Cannes, Monaco/Monte Carlo, Aix-en-Provence, St.Remy-de-Provence, St. Paul de Vence, Nice, Antibes, Eze, Cap Ferat, Beaulieu, Italy, markets, golfing, wineries, hiking, beach, kayaking... While out and about, it's lovely to picnic or have a leisurely (read substantial) lunch in whatever town or hamlet you find yourself (remember, most places shut down for 1-2 hours over lunch), then pick up some olives, cheese, wine and baguette for a relaxing 'dinner' on the balcony when you get back. Maybe a stroll, or a book, or catching up online...then do it all again tomorrow. There are a variety of local restaurants- we rarely eat out ourselves, but there is one that we visit every month or so. It is quite special- amazing food, fairly reasonable we think (since prices here include tax and tip) and nice seaview.
We love the hilly neighbourhood- it makes for a great view and there is no need for a gym! And the drive along the coast road is always spectacular.
