Company’s Gardens & Museums: Creating a green oasis in the middle of Cape Town, the Company’s Gardens are the oldest in South Africa and were originally used to grow vegetables for Dutch East India Company ships (hence the name). Look out for the pear tree held up by supports which was planted around 1652. The gardens form the cultural hub of Cape Town with the Planetarium, National Gallery, SA Museum, Jewish Museum, Parliament, St George’s Cathedral and the Slave Lodge all contained within.

SA Natural History Museum: Founded in 1825, the museum houses more than one and a half million specimens from prehistoric to current. There is a large focus on South African biological and cultural diversity. Open daily from 10h00 to 17h00. Adults (19 years and older) R20.00; Students and SA Pensioners R10.00; Children 18 years and under free.

South African National Gallery: South Africa’s premier art museum houses an outstanding collection of South African art providing an insight into the extraordinary range of aesthetic production in this country. Selections from the Permanent Collection change regularly to enable a full programme of temporary exhibitions. Open daily from 10h00 to 17h00.

Planetarium: Explore the wonders of the universe from the comfort of your chair. Using a Minolta star machine and multiple projectors the planetarium offers an extraordinary audio-visual experience with programs for both adults and children. Open daily. Adults (19 and older) R25.00; Children, Students and SA Pensioners R10.00. Closed on the first Monday of every month.
