Additional Location Information

Table Mountain: No visit to Cape Town is complete without a trip up the mountain. The fastest way up is of course by cable car. It takes about 4 minutes and rotates a full 360 degrees revealing amazing views of Cape Town. For the more energetic there are several hiking routes, the quickest of which is up Platteklip Gorge, starting a couple of kilometres beyond the lower cable station. It takes about 2½ hours. There’s a café on the top and miles of walking trails offering different and unique views of the peninsula. The cable car offers one-way tickets so if you walk up you can still catch the cable car down. If you do decide to walk please take lots of water and something warm; the weather on the mountain is unpredictable and changes suddenly. Discount is offered for online bookings – click here – not only will you save money but you also get to jump the queue which can sometimes be up to an hour’s wait. From November to February you can purchase tickets at half price for trips after 18h00, great for watching the sun set over the Atlantic. Adults R205.00 return R105.00 one way; Children 4-18 years R100.00 return R53.00 one way; Children under 4 years Free; SA Pensioners (Fridays only) R95.00 return R50.00 one way; Students (Fridays only) R130.00 return R68.00 one way.

V&A; Waterfront: Situated in the heart of Cape Town’s working harbour, the V&A; Waterfront offers the visitor an abundance of experiences. Shopping and entertainment venues seamlessly merge with ocean vistas and mountain views and the fresh sea breeze and warm African sun add zest to a cosmopolitan, vibrant atmosphere. More than 80 restaurants bring a fusion of international food. A myriad of shops offer curios, art, designer clothes, luggage and gifts. There are two cinemas (one mainstream and one art) both with multiple screens. Outside is the exciting combination of working harbour and pleasure boat basin. Watercraft of all shapes and sizes offer sunset cruises, steam boat trips around the harbour and a water taxi through the canals to the Convention Centre. Historical Walking Tours occur daily and cover the history of the harbour from a mere wooden jetty in 1654 to its current development. Shops open from 09h00-21h00. Walking tours leave daily at 11h00 from the Chavonnes Battery Museum, bookings are essential and can be made at the V&A; Waterfront Information Centre or In-Mall Kiosk. Adults (19 years and older) R50.00; Children 10-18 years R20.00; Children under 10 Free.
