Welcome to Casa Cappellino - the Italy we all dreamed of experiencing.
Casa Cappellino is nestled among the Tuscan hills on 2.5 hectares (5 acres). The grounds are lovingly landscaped with ponds, olive grove, vineyard, fruit trees and flowering plants. Your vacation home is an independent stonehouse that has been beautifully restored to the highest standards and has retained the Tuscan charm with wooden beams, terra cotta ceilings, chestnut doors and windows, terra cotta floors and a wood burning stove. Your vacation home is designed for intimate, relaxing and comfortable living for all seasons.
An Idyllic Setting: Casa Cappellino is the realization of the true Italy we all dream about. The property is located in the true, genuine, Italian countryside far enough from the major tourism centers so that authentic Italian life can be experienced. Many of the local residents have never been further than perhaps 50 miles from Caprese Michelangelo their entire lives and are the most lovely people you could ever hope to meet. You will not find shops geared toward tourists or restaurants serving quick far from ideal Italian cuisine. In our little corner of Italian heaven you will find the true essence of Italy.
Among the rolling Tuscan hills, you can explore the nearby hills, fields and streams bountiful with wild life, chestnut, walnut, mushrooms, rare ferns and wild flowers. The property overlooks a small tranquil village in which its proud residents have lived for generations in their family homes. Straight and elegant cypress trees, mountain streams with rapids and waterfalls adorn this charming little Italy village. A famous Tuscan restaurant 'Il Rifugio', that attracts patrons from Milan and Florence, is within a 5-minute walk of your holiday rental home.
Your vacation home overlooks the beautifully landscaped grounds that provides a peaceful and secluded holiday vacation retreat for relaxation and intimate get-aways. The natural spring fountain on the property was a source of drinking water for the villagers in the old days. Now this fountain is a favorite gathering place for visitors at the villa. The veranda/terrace is an amazingly relaxing place to sunbathe, read, have romantic meals or stargaze into the night.
There are outdoor sitting areas where you can choose to spend the time with a bottle of Casa Cappellino wine on our 'love bench' by the pond or under the grapevine covered pergola. The veranda/terrace is completely private and it commands magnificent views across rolling hills to the birthplace of Michelangelo and a panorama view of Lama that lies in the valley below.
Your house is a charming Tuscan home on two levels. It is built with stone exterior walls, wooden beams, terra cotta ceilings, chestnut wooden doors and windows, terra cotta floors. It has two big double bedrooms. The open kitchen, dining and living area with a wood burning stove are perfect for intimate and relaxing settings. The bedroom room on the lower level opens to the veranda with amazing views of Michelangelo's birth home and the small village of Lama below where our local grocery store and wonderful Il RIfugio restaurant are located.

“Casa Cappellino: Just about the Perfect Villa for Us”

Casa Cappellino is a beautiful piece of property with a small working vineyard, a natural spring fountain and a perfectly restored 2-bedroom farmhouse.
It is nestled above the hillside hamlet of Lama and with the borders of Emilia-Romagna, Marche and Umbria close by, the destinations of Ravenna, Urbino and Perugia are about as accessible as Florence and Siena. From our bedroom window is the small hilltop birthplace of Michelangelo and in the valley below flows the Tiber. The river passes by a number of historically important towns such as Sansepolcro and anghiari. Behind the villa the hills rise steeply through woods to reach heights where spruce reign. High on the ridgeline sits the medieval Franciscan monastery of La Verna, where St. Francis was reported to have received his Stigmata. Hiking trails abound in this area and offer incredible views both eastward into the Lama Plain and westward into the Casentino Valley, which is studded with hilltop castles.
Further south, but no more than 45-60 minutes away is the ancient city of arezzo. Originally founded by the Etruscans, then conquered by the Romans, the core of the city has many wonderful buildings and a beautifully laid-out central piazza. Close by the border with Umbria is the hilltop town Cortona, made famous by Frances Mayes' book Under The Tuscan Sun.
The directions provided were superb and though it was dark by the time we reached Casa Cappellino, Dennis and Kumiko were on hand to greet us with a bottle of vino from their harvest. The following week was a time of exploring old villages and the lush countryside, discovering castles and monastic sites, gazing at unparalleled art and architecture, drinking tasty and inexpensive Tuscan wines, and eating at exceeding good restaurants (in Lama, Il Refugio has been Michelin rated for years). Markets are close by so we also cooked several meals in the fully functional and well-equipped kitchen.
Casa Cappellino is a bit of country Tuscan paradise!
