A BEAUTIFUL PLACE IN A BEAUTIFUL PLACE

My wife and I have stayed in eight different VRBOs in France in the last 20 years, and Montplaisir is definitely the best one ever. Reasonably priced, and i has EVERYTHING you need, including a bunch of opera CDs. And two bathrooms. Very important. Plus everything else you would expect. As you're leaving on your daily adventure in the morning, you pass by a ruined castle names "Lagarde",which doesn't even make it into most guidebooks, yet for 2 Euros it's one of the best places we saw. And of course the rest of the region has cool castles and churches and other old stuff. If you're looking for seclusion and solitude, Montplaisir is your place. It's 15 minutes from anywhere (including the nearest bakery). Go and enjoy.
WONDERFULLY CHARMING AND PEACEFUL

What an absolutely perfect vacation. A warm, charming well-equipped home, with the appeal of an old French stone cottage and the comfort of modern amenities. Bruce, the owner, was super to deal with and made the trip easy with recommendations, directions, suggestions. I spent two wonderful weeks, traveling alone for most of the trip, and felt perfectly comfortable - especially after a warm greeting by Hariet and Robert, friends of the owner, who greeted me with a welcome package of wine, bread, jam, cheese. Access to Barcelona for a 2-day stay was easy. The nearby town of Mirepoix is a charm. Albi and the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum, Camon, Carcassone are all must-sees. Lunch at La Lautrec in Albi was wonderful. I suggest avoiding the highways and toll roads and choosing instead the beautiful roads that wind through quaint, traditional French villages and afford some of the most beautiful views. Driving was an absolute pleasure. And on days that I simply felt like relaxing, Montplaisir was the perfect, peaceful sanctuary. I'd head to Mirepoix to the Boulanger and the market and back to Montplaisir to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. A walk on the roads around the home in the evening was delightful. I was sad to leave, as I was beginning to feel like a local by the end. Perfect....Read more

We were in France and Italy for three weeks and absolutely nothing came close to our week at this wonderful home. With a car, every day was a new adventure, but "coming home" and sharing a glass of wine while enjoying the vista of snow-covered Pyrenees and the sounds of a cuckooo was pure delight. Quiet, comfy, remote, and easy to get to the lovey town of Mirepoix, etc. The house was even better than we anticipated. Can't wait to return next year. A gem!!

The view is breath taking, the house is lovely with everything you need. We arrived to find a welcome breakfast pack and the house was clean and all linens provided. It is very well equipped both in the kitchen and living area. The beds are comfortable, and there was plenty of hot water. You need a car to travel, but there are some great local sites only a few miles away. These include the town of Mirepoix and Lac Montel. The owner had provided extensive information for us prior to arrival and this was extremely useful. We had a wonderful time and would recommend it to anyone who wants a quiet getaway in a great house. The best summer rental we have ever had.

We would recommend this property wholeheartedly to anyone. The friends mentioned by the owner who live not far away and keep the key to the house are very charming, helpful people who would be a blessing in any emergency. Places we would recommend to visitors would be Mirepoix itself, a lovely little town, Camon, Carcassonne, Montsegur, Albi, Foix, and Toulouse, each of which alone would merit more than one day of sightseeing. We were more into visiting those places than eating, drinking and activities of other kinds. But the Relais et Chateaux hotel restaurant in Mirepoix was superb- the Relais Royal in the center of town. If you go to Toulouse for more than a day, stay at the hotel in the centre of the old city called Le Grand Balcon. The location is perfect, the rooms super-comfortable and the management charming. They do not serve dinner however, only breakfast and bar snacks in the evening. This is not a big tourist area of France but it ought to be.
