Additional Location Information

The house is on the west coast of the island. It is near to the historical black house village, where there is a museum, cafe and sheltered stoney beach. There are magnificent sandy beaches within a few miles of the house and you can walk to Dalmore beach from the back of the croft. The ancient Standing Stones of Callanish are 6 miles away and the ancient broch of Carloway is 3 miles away.
It is a very good area for walking and you can walk round the coast from the house. The village has a craft shop but no food shops. The nearest town,Stornoway, is 24 miles away but it is easily reached by car and there is an excellent bus service to the door. Parking is available at the house and there is a fenced area around the house which makes it safe for children and dogs. the house also sits on its own croft (an area of land) and all the neighbouring houses are on crofts so that there is privacy but also other people around. There are 6 villages in the township of Carloway so it is a typical crofting township.
Stornoway is a modern town and has all the facilities you require - supermarkets, hotels (food is generally good) and a good arts centre and museum. The art centre is good for music and there and elsewhere you may have the opportunity to experience Gaelic song and language.
There is a lot to see on the island - a great deal that is historical, and many artists and galleries and craft people around. Harris tweed is made on the island - now in factories but there are still lone weathers working from home
For those interested in outdoor activities there are sea going trips -for instance trips to St Kilda - and also angling, surfing etc. birdwatching is popular as is cycling and walking. it is easy to drive around the island and visit its many attractions. I have links on my website to further information on things to do in the island.
