Upon your arrival you will be greeted with complimentary hors d'oeuvres and wine or sparkling cider, passes to the renown Spa on the Plaza in downtown Monterey, tickets for a wine tasting at Scheid Vineyards’ tasting room in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea and a basket of local information. An assigned concierge vacation house manager is available to assist you during your stay. When you enter the living room, with its dramatic cathedral window on one side and wall of glass on the other, drink in the sweeping view of the ocean and the Santa Lucia Mountains, with Highway 1 cutting a ribbon-like swath far below. Take it all in on a chaise lounge in the corner and have your favorite book in hand, a soft throw and you will be in heaven. A convertible sofa offers a sleeping option.
Cooking will be a joy in the newly remodeled chef's dream kitchen as you look through the passway window out to the Pacific Ocean. If you do feel like a drink or meal out, Rocky Point Restaurant, perched on a promontory over crashing waves, is only 2 miles away, and there are many 4-5 star restaurants in Big Sur or Carmel.
The chef and a helper can prep while sitting at bar stools at a pass-through window and enjoy the views along with the living room conversation. Everything you can think of for preparing and presenting fabulous meals is provided, from modern appliances to cookware and beautiful dishes. Meals will be unforgettable served at a wooden table that seats up to 8.
Enjoy a rousing game of ping-pong or play a show tune at the upright piano in a spacious game room that has a cast-iron fireplace, a large flat-screen TV and day bed couches. A washer and dryer are concealed behind shuttered doors.
The master bedroom has windows with forever views with closets with mirrored doors that amplify the effect. Take a relaxing soak and meditate under the night sky in the hot tub just outside the window then tuck yourself in for a peaceful sleep in the king bed with luxury linens. The master bath has jade-green tiled flooring and shower and a free-standing seashell-shaped marble sink.
All 3 bedrooms have dramatic ocean views. A second bedroom has a queen bed. A third smaller bedroom has a trundle day bed with luxury linens that can be a single, two singles or convert to a king with a Memory Foam topper. A second bath with a tub/shower has an organic spa feel, with Italian porcelain mosaic tiling in gray and taupe.
Take your cocktails out to a pair of redwood chairs at land's edge and watch the colors change as the sun dips below the horizon. Follow a short path to a deck facing the mountains where you can practice your golf swing while balls sail into the great beyond. Meditate in a round carpeted room that looks out to the canyon and slopes beyond.
Don't be surprised if the magic of this place and the Big Sur Coastline seeps into your being and you find yourself wanting to return again and again.

We stayed at the Garrapata Ridge Retreat for 4 days in Jan 2014 (during the holiday season). The house is amazing. It was very comfortable for our family (which included 3 generations). It is very clean and tastefully decorated, has everything we needed including a very well-equipped kitchen. The views are fantastic (even much better than the pictures); they are the best views of the ocean and mountains that I've ever seen. It is truly a sanctuary. The drive up the mountain was a little scary to some of my family members at the beginning, but we got used to it.
Sanctuary vacation rentals were easy to work with throughout the process of renting, check-in and checkout. We had no issues whatsoever.
"great setting/ nicely apponted house high above the pacific"

would recommend for the not faint of heart as the 1 mile ascent to access the property is hairraising with steep drop offs and no guard rails. Time your arrival to daylight hours and enjoy by lingering at the house with not so many trips off property.

We were attending a wedding in the area and needed a house that could accommodate my personal family, children and grandchildren. We rented for 13 but were 12. Views were beautiful! Wine and Bree cheese was waiting for us when we arrived. Family room with piano, Big screen TV is away from bedrooms. Very nice for us to visit and not disturb others sleeping. Kitchen is small but has everything you might need. The house is very homey with WiFi. I would not recommend as many as we had but we were very comfortable. The drive is not that far from town but we did have a deer hit the car driving home from the wedding reception. So be careful driving at night. I have stayed in a few vacation rentals and this was home was very clean! I would recommend this home as a great vacation rental. It was like being on a scavenger hunt to find the home. Just follow instructions and remember there is no cell phone service. We did not have any problems.
