Retreat to a gentler, slower-paced era in this delightful tree-shrouded quintessential Carmel-by-the-Sea board-and-batten cottage that evokes the spirit of the village's original founding artist colony. This clean, airy two-bedroom cottage, which is located in a quiet neighborhood only blocks from the downtown, blends seashore-themed originality and whimsy with comfort and good taste.
A newly refurbished one-bedroom guest cottage behind the main house can also be rented to provide additional accommodations. Obtain more information on #3264 on the Sanctuary Vacation Rentals website. You can book the guest cottage together with the main house or separately.
Upon your arrival you will be greeted with complimentary hors d'oeuvres and wine or sparkling cider, passes to the renown Spa on the Plaza in downtown Monterey, tickets for a wine tasting at Scheid Vineyards’ tasting room in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea and a basket of local information. An assigned concierge vacation house manager is available to assist you during your stay. We have also provided spa amenities in the bathrooms, plush spa bathrobes, slippers, oversized towels and beach gear.
Relax with a good book and warm body and soul in front of a wood-burning brick fireplace in a cozy living room that features comfy furnishings, a vaulted ceiling with skylights, wood floors topped with plush rugs and paned windows looking out to a fenced-in patio dotted with pots brimming with colorful flowers and native plants. Crisp beach tones of tan, white and robins-egg blue remind you that the Pacific Ocean is just nearby and you most assuredly are on vacation.
Picture lively meals with friends and loved ones around a rectangular French country oak table that can seat up to 10 in a dining area that overlooks the patio. Adjacent is a fully-equipped kitchen with granite countertops, gas stove, dishwasher, microwave and side-by-side refrigerator.
Take your morning coffee and croissant before you put on your walking shoes and stroll into the village of Carmel to explore the myriad shops, galleries and world-class restaurants. If you're feeling ambitious, you can even continue all the way down Ocean Avenue to its ending at the pristine white beach and sparkling azure waves that have enticed countless visitors from around the world to kick off their shoes and stroll along the water's edge. If you plan ahead, you can stop at Bruno's Market, a Carmel trademark, en route and pick up some wine, cheese, bread and fresh fruit for a casual picnic.
The robin's-egg blue and sage green master bedroom, with its plush warm carpeting and luxury-hotel-quality linens, features a white California king bed with memory foam topper that can be converted to two twins if desired.
The second smaller bedroom has hardwood flooring topped with an area rug and a queen wicker bed.
The bathroom, near both bedrooms, features a new granite counter top and is tiled throughout, including whimsical tiles of fish adorning the combination bath/shower.
Additional sleeping arrangements are provided by a comfortable futon/chaise and a white deep sofa in the living room, offering total sleeping accommodations for up to five adults or four adults and two small children.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome in this secure property, which is completely enclosed by a grape-stake fence. You can walk your dog in a charming vest-pocket park just around the corner. The paved driveway is long enough to accommodate a recreational vehicle or 2-3 cars; there is street parking for up to two cars as well.
Evening cocktails can be enjoyed at a bistro table in the front patio. A grill is provided for outdoor cooking and entertaining. Outdoor access to washer and dryer.

My wife and I enjoyed a week in Carmel at the Torres cottage. It was so peaceful and walking distance to downtown. The cottage is well appointed as annie has added all the little touches. It was like being at home. This cottage is quaint and private with a fence surrounding the property. I like parking our car inside the property as well. We will stay there again.

Our stay at Sanctuary by the Sea on Torres Street in Carmel was delightful. The house is beautifully decorated in a cozy beach cottage theme. Every need has been anticipated, from the well-equipped kitchen to the Montery aquarium passes. We didn't feel like we were staying in a rental, but were treasured guests at a dear friends vacation get-away. We arrived late at night to find a warm candle-lit welcome complete with wine & artisan cheese. The secret garden provided a place to commune with nature, and to gather with friends and family. We are already planning to return!

We have been visiting Carmel for many years and we have now found the perfect lodging. The charming cottage and garden were extremely welcoming upon our arrival and throughout our stay. The cottage is bright and lovely. It was well equiped, clean and well-cared for. Our 2 well-travelled dogs were in canine heaven. The location is perfect for walking to town and the beach, but far enough away to be quiet and restful. We stayed a week and will certainly rebook in the not to distant future.

We had a wonderful time in this very cute and comfrotable cottage. Loved the location - so convenient to everything. The house was perfect too...it had everything we could possibly need, and then some!

The Beach Cottage has superb designer touches to be cherished, you felt so welcomed as if you were trading homes with dear friends, all four of us treasured our time and our dog was welcome as well! We definitely will be back. The location is close to everything and the aquarium passes were perfect for quick entry. Carmel Beach is fabulous and close, there is a washer and dryer and the patio is large and enclosed for privacy. It was the perfect vacation anytime of the year! Our tweens thought it was perfect as well. There is a tv, cd player, areas to read in comfort, a fabulous kitchen with all that you could need for dining, and the fluffiest towels ever! The garden is gorgeous and large windows to view it! Our dog enjoyed it as well since the very large patio was enclosed he could lie outside comfortably and there are so many dog friendly restaurants. The house felt open and you truly wanted to spend time there when you weren't at the beach! It is a perfect getaway for a family or a couple.

I love this vacation home rental for the following reasons:
-Its beautifully decorated and appointed with everything you could ever need - it really does feel like your own beach cottage! It's just beautiful!
-Its close enough to walk to town and the beach if you can handle a long walk.
- Its very comfortable.
- Its dog friendly - so important to my family and I!
- Its kid friendly (the property is totally fenced in and safe for both animals and kids alike)
- The front yard has enough space for play and relaxing.
Things that keep me from giving a 5 star rating:
- The prices are constantly changing based on dates and how many days ahead you make your reservation as well as how many nights the reservation is for. I understand that weeknight and weekend prices would differ as well as peak times and off season times however, there seem to be so many intricacies that it can cause confusion.
- The cleaning fee is high and the check out procedures are in depth - change one or the other! Luckily, my mom was staying with me so while I got the baby ready she ran around and cleaned. Then in addition I got to pay $175 for a cleaning fee. When I'm on vacation, I don't want to strip a bed or pick up dirty towels - thats what a cleaning fee should be for.
- Check in is just a little late, 4pm. It cuts down on the use of the house which is a bummer when you're really looking forward to the house!
I already recommended it to a friend and they recommended it to a friend! Read more
Thanks so much for your review and for your wonderful balanced feedback.
Just to let you know we have changed the check out list so that bed stripping is not required anymore. We came up with this procedure so we could actually turn the house over on check out days that had guests arriving the same day. We always try to accommodate early check ins and check outs and the only time we can't is when we have guests arriving the same day and even then we sometimes make a plan with the guest who wanted an early check in to call them as soon as we are ready. We have free aquarium passes so we suggest go hang out there if we can't accommodate an early check in and we always are open to guests bringing food or luggage early.
I also understand that the $175 cleaning fee and the check out list may
seem too much. Our rental rates are really low considering what you do get and our cleaning rates just cover the cost of the cleaning that
we subcontract. We do our best to have it be spotless and we also have a staff who will answer any of your calls during your stay and help you find great places to eat or visit during your stay. We do send the copy of the check out list with the directions and access info so nobody is surprised. I am working on making it as guest friendly as possible.
I also agree that the pricing can be confusing. We do our best to be really flexible as far as minimum nights and we do a lot of last minute specials so we can offer great rates and not have our house empty at the same time making it affordable for our guests.
We do send out the contract that spells out the pricing and terms as soon as we receive your request which is something I feel really good about as you have everything in writing to help you make your decision.
I truly appreciate that you took the time to write this review and to give very fair useful feedback.
Thanks so much for your referral and know that we do give a friends and family $50 off next visit for any return trips or for referring a guest.

We loved the little house so much that we rearranged our trip so we could stay another night. The home itself is wonderful, but the little extras are what really put everything over the top -- the wine and cheese awaiting us got the day off to a nice start and the passes to the aquarium and the day spa helped to set a relaxed pace. We loved our stay and are looking for excuses to return! Read more
Thanks so much for your wonderful review and for taking the time to write it. It is the little things that count and make the difference and I am glad that you appreciated them. Please come back and know you have a friends and family discount of $50 off next time you visit. Best, Annee

We stayed in this cottage for 5 nights. It has a great location, very convenient for walking to restaurants and shops. We hardly used our car during our stay which was exactly what we wanted. The cottage was nicely decorated and stocked with everything we needed including pet covers/throws, dog bowls, a selection of dvds and beach paraphernalia. The main house and studio each have their own completely private yards but there's a gate that can be opened if rented together. All in all a great trip and we hope to stay again. Read more
