Imagine yourself lounging on a spacious wooden deck watching a luminous sunset on the horizon over the sparkling blue waters of the Pacific Ocean and you get a foretaste of what to expect from this utterly charming 1,200-square-foot home situated in a lovely Carmel neighborhood.
Bright and cheerful with a wood burning fireplace and hardwood floors throughout, this secluded 2-bedroom 2-bath indoor/outdoor house is surrounded by lush gardens on a large enclosed property. A delightful guest studio cottage that sleeps 2-3 can be rented together with the main house or separately (obtain further information at #3292 on the Sanctuary Vacation Rentals website).
The ocean and Point Lobos are visible from the living room, deck and master bedroom. The upbeat Pottery Barn beach décor, with its white, chocolate and robin's-egg-blue color scheme and seashore-themed accents, will lift your spirits, making you eager to return to your home base after exploring the surrounding sights. Everything you will want to see and do is nearby. It is a short walk to Carmel River Beach (a local favorite) and the Carmel Mission, and minutes by car to the shops and galleries of downtown Carmel and the chic Crossroads and Barnyard shopping areas near the mouth of Carmel Valley. Monterey and Pacific Grove are a 10-minute drive, and Big Sur is half an hour away.
Upon your arrival you will be greeted with complimentary hors d'oeuvres and wine or sparkling cider, passes to the renown Spa on the Plaza in downtown Monterey, tickets for a wine tasting at Scheid Vineyards’ tasting room in downtown Carmel-by-the-Sea and a basket of local information. An assigned concierge vacation house manager is available to assist you during your stay. We have also provided spa amenities in the bathrooms, plush spa bathrobes, slippers, oversized towels and beach gear.
The outdoors is as much a draw as the indoors in this special home. A large deck off the living room and master bedroom is equipped with 3 teak loungers and an outdoor table with green shade umbrella for enjoying evening cocktails or al fresco meals overlooking the private, fenced garden.
As you enter the front door and walk into the cozy combined living and dining room, you will see the lovely garden and ocean views. French doors open out to the deck. When you're not mesmerized by the vista, you can play cards, watch the flat-screen TV with Blue-Ray DVD or socialize in the cheery space, which includes a plush full sofa bed facing a whitewashed wood-burning fireplace, an overstuffed chair and a round glass table with upholstered chairs that seat 4.
A fully equipped kitchen with oak cabinetry has a gas stove, side-by-side refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave. Grab a light breakfast before heading out on your day's adventures.
Wake in the morning after a tranquil night's sleep to ocean views from the master bedroom, which features a queen bed with top-quality mattress and luxurious linens and built-in shelving. The master bedroom includes a spotless en suite full bath with combination tub/shower completely tiled in white.
A second cheerful bedroom that overlooks a rose garden can be made up as 2 twins or a king with a memory foam topper, also fitted with luxury linens. A full bathroom down a short hall off the living room has a tub/shower and counter top that are tiled in cloudy blue.
A laundry room with outside access has a washer/dryer and is shared with the guest house on the property. Parking is available for one car in a carport. Two more cars can fit in the driveway.

Our family fell in love with this home and can't wait to return. The backyard and the view are gorgeous. The house is very cozy and well stocked, we stayed for a week and had everything we needed..even the sand toys for our 6 and 2 year old. The team at Sanctuary rentals are so easy to work with. Overall we were very pleased and can't wait to return.

We had a great stay in this lovely house in Carmel. The photos on the website did not do it justice and the view from the deck of Carmel beach was fantastic. The house was perfect for our family of four's needs though the decor was a little fussy and we were nervous of spillages with kids. It might be better suites to an older couple. Apart from that, the cottage was beautiful, well equipped and had a lovely garden with the deck overlooking the bay. The location was great too and lovely and quiet but 5 minutes into Carmel one way or the supermarkets the other. Perfectly situated for Monteray,
Point Lobos and the highway. Sanctuary Rentals were extremely helpful and left plenty of useful information.
We loved our stay and would definitely recommend it and stay there again.

My new bride and I very much enjoyed our recent stay for our wedding with Sanctuary at this very cosy and beautiful home and attached guest studio (we took both for our stay).
We had a very pleasant stay and felt that the studio and house were well-equipped, nicely decorated, clean and convenient to the main strip of Carmel-by-the-Sea (5 minutes away) and with easy access to Big Sur. The terrace was beautiful as well, with a view to the coast.
We wanted to specifically highlight the exceptional service that Marietta, the property manager, provided us during and particularly after our stay. After the pleasant stay, we had checked out of the house and driven halfway to another appointment in San Francisco by the time we realized we had left the top of our wedding cake in the freezer back in the house. This distressed us very much as we couldn't turn back around due to our appointment.
We managed to reach Marietta, and, to put it succinctly, within a few hours, she went above and beyond any expectations to help us out. She helped us carry the cake top up with her the next day to San Francisco, infringing on her planned day with her daughter, and made sure it got to a friend of ours in the city.
This was an outcome we couldn't have even wished for and we can't say how much we appreciated her effort and service. This level of service is rare nowadays and makes our decision to recommend the property even easier to make. We will never forget what Marietta did!

We'll be back for more beach time, shopping, views of the ocean, sounds of crashing waves and the awesome summer weather. I highly recommend the stay with Sanctuary Vacation Rentals at this location!

This property is located in a quiet residential area south of downtown Carmel. The house is very well appointed, including the "little things" like beach chairs and a picnic basket. It has a large, private "garden" deck and hot tub. 2-3 minutes from grocery shopping and only about 5 - 7 minutes from Carmel's art galleries and restaurants. Highly recommended.

We loved the house and the awesome backyard with the hot tub. The house was cute, clean and comfortable. We really appreciated the bath towels, linens, and other items that some other vacation rentals require you to bring. The beach toys, chairs and other beach amenities were great. Perfect location, close to the beach, town, Pt. Lobos and Monterey. The extras--such as the tickets to the aquarium--really provided extra value to our trip.

Lovely back yard with hot tub overlooking Pt. Lobos. Tastefully decorated, well stocked kitchen, light and airy, lots of windows. Perfect enclosed yard for dog. We have been coming to Carmel for years and this is one of the nicest homes we have stayed in.

My husband, my dog Mac and I enjoyed the peaceful and scenic views of this property. The house we well equipped, including the kitchen. The yard and gardens were beautiful. Wish the sun would have shined, but all in all we enjoyed the area, close to the Village and shopping.

Enjoyed the house and guesthouse. Had 6 adults and 2 boys(age 8 and 5). Kitchen had all we needed to cook in. Beds were perfect for restful sleep. Deck great for suppers outside.
Too much chlorine smell to use the hot tub.
This house felt like home thanks to all of the well thought out touches and extras that were in place. The wine and cheese and crackers were wonderful and welcome after the long drive up ca-1 from L.A., and the fire laid was just what was needed on a chilly afternoon. The place was great.

We made a last minute trip to Monterey and Carmel. We were able to book this home for our extended weekend stay. It was more than we expected and were so very pleased with the home, all of its amenities and the welcome that we received. Special touches including a bottle of wine, crackers and cheese. We really dislike staying in hotels and prefer to stay in vaction homes like this one. The value was certainly there and gave us opportunity to get to know the area. Its location is minutes from everything, shopping, the beach, dining, grocery stores, and wonderful place to take a stroll. We surely will return and recommend to all our friends for their stays.

The house we stayed at was absolutely wonderful! We came in early spring when it was still a bit chilly, so the hot tub and fireplace were perfect. Having a concierge on hand made all the difference in our stay from finding a driver for wine tours or getting passes to the spa. They even left us a welcoming present when we arrived of wine and cheese! The price was very reasonable and the location of the house made us feel more like locals than tourists. I think we enjoyed staying home with the ocean view just as much as we had enjoying the pleasures of Carmel and Monterey!

This was a great place for a long weekend getaway. Spacious backyard for the dogs and within easy driving distance of beaches and town. Super clean and well maintained. The bed in the master is not the most comfortable and the mattress could use replacing and the living room furniture was not the most comfortable for long lounging in front of the lovely wood fire but in the summer I am sure this would be less of an issue as the backyard could be better utilized. The only other thing is be aware that the 10am checkout rule is strictly enforced! We got a loud bang on our door at 10:05am and were pretty rudely informed that the cleaners needed access asap!

We love the Mesa Main House. The back yard is perfect for our dogs and the 2 bed/2 bath layout is perfect for the humans! We love that this property is pet-friendly, has washer/dryer facilities, beach stuff for summer, fireplace for winter, dishwasher, etc. The back deck is wonderful, too. Sanctuary rentals does a fabulous job in making these fine homes available for rental and offering pet-friendly options. We will be back. Thanks, Sanctuary.

This was a very nice place to stay for my elderly father , dog, and I. I was able to walk to the beach and back twice a day and it was beautiful. It was close enough and yet felt very private. My dog loved the yard. The home was clean and very easy to use.
After a long day I would relax in the hot tub under the stars and then crawl into a comfy bed.
Cute cottage, well located for Monterey area exploration

Well appointed with a full service kitchen, appealingly decorated, clean and well organized, enclosed yard. Lovely distant view of Carmel River beach and reserve. Close to Mission Carmel, less than 2 miles to the Carmel Beach, close to shopping center, ten minutes or less to Point Lobos, Pacific Grove, Monterey, and downtown Carmel. We liked best the ready access to all areas, the quiet neighborhood, the hot tub, attention to detail in supplies and decor, and the pet friendliness. We did have an annoying problem with horse flies hatching in the heat vents, but did not tell owner til we left.

As anyone who has ever rented a vacation home in Carmel knows, rentals are very expensive and are usually poorly maintained, dated and lacking in many amenities.
This was absolutely not the case at the lovely cottages we rented from Sanctuary Vacation rentals in early November.
The main house and guest house were both charming and very well appointed. In addition, I found the staff and owner to be very gracious, accommodating and responsive to our needs.
I would recommend them unequivicably.
Thank you again,

Have just returned from a lovely 3 days in Carmel at the Mesa Sanctuary. It is a beautiful home with an exquisite garden and deck. We wished for more time to just be at the home enjoying the view of the garden and the ocean.
The welcome cheese, crackers and wine were most appreciated and the home was immaculately kept.
I traveled with 2 other friends and we were truly sad to see our time at the Mesa Sanctuary end. Not to worry: we'll be back in the spring!

What a rare gem to find a lovely, private home in Carmel! Every amenity and comfort was thoughtfully provided. We loved the deck and hot tub overlooking Point Lobos...morning coffee on the deck and sunset cocktails! The beds were super comfortable, and we slept like babies. It was a perfect venue for two sisters to relax, rejuvenate and connect with nature!! We also went to the Monterey Bay aquarium compliments of SVR and had a great time seeing the Great White Shark. We will be back!!

We actually came a day early, due to the stress of the week before our arrival--which could have been a disaster, but the very efficient and agreeable staff made up the house for us while we ate dinner in town. When we got back, everything was in order, and the hot tub we took, followed by wine and cheese provided by the house, were wonderfully calming. The house itself is lovely, clean, charming, with very comfortable beds, and a kitchen that is a pleasure to cook in. It would be a great pleasure to return to Sanctuary Mesa. Read more

We really enjoyed our stay. We had both the house and the cottage for our family. The hot tub and the wonderful outdoor eating area, complete with a partial bay view, made our stay even better. Both the house and the cottage were very tastefully decorated and comfortable. The property is on a very quiet street about a 1 mile from downtown Carmel.
I wish I had understood that the house only has two bedrooms, one "bedroom" is the living room. Be alert to the extremely early 10:00am check out time. 4PM is earliest check in. Read more
Thanks so much for your wonderful comments. I am sorry that there was any misunderstanding that the cottage guest house is a 600 square foot studio or can be a large master suite with a living room so it all depends on how you use it. Either way I would think it would be a positive as there is a living room in the main house as well as in the guest cottage.
We always try to accommodate early check in and late checkouts when we don't have a guest arriving that day and even then will say come over and pick up the aquarium passes and we will call you when the house is clean. I hope it you return you ask to get a late check out and that it works out for you. Take are, Annee
