We recently stayed at this rental property and what can I say but beautiful. The property was tranquil with every amenity I could ask for. The welcome cheese and wine and roaring fire upon arrival was a wonderul surprise and really appreciated at the beginning of a much overdue holiday. I will definately be back and really look forward to visiting other properties Sanctuary has to offer!

My wife and I go off for a weekend or so every few of months, just to relax. Our goal is always to find a comfortable, pleasant house to rent, and one that's in a nice area. No lie, this was the best place, and best weekend, we've had in years. Everything - the house, the furniture, the kitchen, the secluded courtyard - was perfect. But the folks that manage this property are also clearly top-notch. We arrived to find a roaring fire, an array of nuts, cheese, and berries along with a bottle of wine set out for us, and the whole house in perfect order. And the two minute talk to the ocean - fantastic. We will return for sure!

It's been a week and a half since we left Carmel and the house on Santa Lucia, and it still has not settled in our daily chores and habits whether the week at the house with the grand piano and the great fireplace which is the heart of the dwelling was all fact, or in some peculiar way a detour through a portal, not quite in time, but certainly one that landed us in a kind of suspended state -- suspended, that is, between time and ordinary space.
Firmly standing now, 2696 Santa Lucia, is the house belonging to an artist, a one-bedroom ell-shaped house recessed beyond a courtyard which is at once a sculpture garden. You look, from anywhere in the house excepting the bathroom, through giant ceiling-length glass paned doors into the courtyard. Yes, even from the doorway to the kitchen, this statement is true. And where do you begin, once you're inside, to describe this place? You've just stepped inside and are still near the curtain dividing the bedroom from the rest of the house, and you look upon the living room area with the grand paino in the background, rather like an altar surrounded by precious objects and the green of highlighted vegetation. Let your eyes roam along the wall above the fireplace, and you will breathe a little slower, taking in the Javanese figures deployed above the fireplace -- and let this view reach you at night, when the rest is submerged in shadows and the figures come alive! Do this -- standing still and letting your eyes feast on the place -- and you will get your money's worth out of this house, I promise you.
Never mind that during the week you're there the weather is lousy and that for a stretch exceeding 24 hours the power is mostly out. You have the gas fireplace and the gas stove and matches. So you've got hot tea and books to read and you made it through the rain that seemed like it would never end, thanks to friends in town, and to the folks at Sanctuary who were just as cordial as cordial can be.

The making of arrangements was very easy and most accommodating.
The home was very well located and physically well maintained. It is very quiet and private, and still a short distance from the beach. It was our 41st anniversary and wanted somewhere to relax and just enjoy being together. This house was very good for that with the fire place, kitchen, and nice bathroom. The weather wasn't real great and my wife wasn't feeling like being out, so we stayed in for quiet times. The one thing that could definitely be improved was the Entertainment area.
The TV was very old, small, and couldn't be used for movies or much of anything. The home could use updating for music & TV!

My wife and I were researching accommodations for a romantic getaway for our 1-year anniversary. Carmel California offered the quiet sanctitude of a small and charming town set in a beautiful and serene coastal forest haven. We read many reviews from B&B;'s to the various Inn's that dot the coastal community and then stumbled upon Sanctuary Vacation Rentals. When we searched the directory and found our 1 bedroom retreat we knew we had found the perfect place to spend our peaceful getaway in a home away from home. The management team made reserving our home very easy and we were welcomed with open arms when we arrived. The 1 bedroom retreat was very clean and romantically tucked away from the hustle and bustle of our normal city life. We arrived to a cheese and wine spread, which we immediately enjoyed as the fireplace lit the main room and warmed our hearts. This was truly a memorable vacation and we look forward to bringing our business back to Sanctuary Vacation Rentals very soon in the near future. Thank you again for a pleasant time spent in the cute coastal town of Carmel!
