Additional Location Information

The house is surrounded by nature: wild flowers, hollyoaks, pine trees and a variety of low bushes. The only deciduous trees being our almonds and figs, making our views very green all year round. We also have grape vines, herbs, nisperos & carobs..

Several walks can start directly from the doorstep of your accommodation, and many more are available in the countryside around. If necessary, we can provide maps of various walks in the area. You can also see further information on certain walks in the area at Walkingworld by using this link (website: hidden)

Natural wonders of the area include the striking pink and white almond blossom (Jan/Feb), cherry & orange blossom scent, abundant wild flowers and butterflies, eagles, bee-eaters, nightingales (common in spring/summer & singing during the nights of May/June) and much, much more.

Two kilometres from the apartment, in this area called Pla de Petracos, there are ancient cave paintings. Caves at the archaeological site have a viewing platform, and the paintings are explained on six interpretive panels.

Golfing is available 40 minutes away, eg Oliva Nova Golf Course which was designed by Ballasteros.

The landscape of the Marina Alta is extremely varied, with miles of blue flag sandy beaches, rugged mountain ranges with a green paradise of valleys holding a wealth of citrus, almond and olive groves and carpets of wine producing vines.

The region boasts over 300 days of sunshine a year.

The apartment is above a British owned country house in the Jalon valley, and is located 5ks from the village of Castell de Castells where you can experience the charm of real Spain & find several tapas bars, a restaurant, Saturday market, 2 small supermarkets, a chemist, bank, an ATM machine, and a tabac where one buys postage stamps! All in a picturesque mountain village of only 500 inhabitants!

Castells also has tennis courts, a swimming pool, most grades of walks that can include mountains higher than Ben Nevis and prehistoric caves with 8,000 year old paintings. Castell de Castells also boasts a 50 piece brass orchestra who play in the village square during fiesta time (mid August) & on the many other celebratory occasions.

From the apartment it is a 20 min drive to the market town of Jalon where there is a fruit & veg market on Tuesdays & a large rastro on Saturday mornings. There are also several bodegas where you can sample the local wines.

The very pleasant (not too busy) coastal towns & beaches of Javea, Moraira, Denia & Calpe are all about a 40 min drive away.

Also in the area are the caves of Vall d'Ebo and Benidoleig.

Near Castells, the highest peak of the Serrella mountain range is named Malla de llop, which is over 1300 metres high. The remains of an Arabic castle, Penya Castellet, and many trails are found in the area, popular for walking and mountain biking. The area has a rich history with three settlements around the
village: Pla de Petracos, Bitla and Pla d'Alt (The High Place).
