On the foot of Italy sits the truly unspoilt region of Calabria. Calabria is surrounded by the Tyrrhenian, Ionian and Mediterranean sea's. It is rich in produce and steeped in history.

Throughout the summer many local festivals are held. One of note is the reknown Tarantella festival in Caulonia Superiore (old town), this is a huge spectacle & has a fantastic atmosphere. Many top drawer musicians attend and it is televised on Italian national tv. Plus it is free to attend.

In Caulonia town itself there is a well stocked supermarket and a larger one on the edge of town that is within walking distance. There are several cafes where you can also buy delicious cakes, ice cream, ciabattas/sandwiches. There is also a good choice of restaurants and shops for a small town like Caulonia.

Caulonia has a good and reliable transport system where you can reach Sicily and Rome with relative ease. Although a car is more favourable for the more remote areas and attractive cobbled medieval villages situated high up in the hills.
Bicycles can be hired free locally.

Visit Spring or Autumn for peace and tranquility, or July and August for sun, beach bars and festivals (especially the well known festival throughout Italy called Tarantella. You can be certain of a warm welcome and hospitality from the friendly locals.

There is a wonderful market on a Saturday morning in Caulonia which is only a five minute walk away.

You can be sure that once you have been you will be eager to return and perhaps explore further to the much talked about Iolian islands, Taormina or Mount Etna or the Sila national park. Caulonia and the surrounding area has without doubt so much to offer.

The scenery is simply stunning, the food delicious and the people delightful.
