Johanson’s Seahorse Gazebo house was built in 1990 with 1500 square feet of space and it is nice and roomy. The house is situated on a wonderful location on the North side of the island with the crystal clear waters of the Caribbean Sea just 75 feet away from the house.
The house is all one level making it ideal for young and old, with 3 bedrooms and 2 ½ baths as well an outdoor shower. The price listed is per couple (based on double occupancy) but the house is able to sleep eight comfortably with the use of a sofa bed.
My property is snorkeling friendly boasting a cement (not sand) walkway, that will take you right into the pristine water where you can observe such brightly colored aquatic inhabitants as parrot-fish , trigger-fish, squirrel-fish, and angel-fish as well as octopuses ,sea turtles , brightly colored sponges and coral. The concrete path makes it extremely easy to get right into the water for snorkeling and in no time at all you will be gazing at these beautiful underwater creatures. All you have to do is sit down and don your fins and a mask and snorkel and swim away and in a second or two you will be gazing at some extremely colorful fish of all sizes.
Just down the road you can snorkel above a very interesting underwater sculpture garden called Atlantis. It consists of many large statues in 50' of water and they attract all sorts of sea life such as spotted eagle rays. A very nice public sandy beach is just a 10 minute drive away on the south side of the island for people who prefer this kind of beach. Personally, I prefer the beach in front of my house because I love to see the wonderful fish in clear water-not water that is cloudy from a lot of sand in the water column. Many guests who have stayed at the house have been amazed at the quantity and quality of the sea life in the waters right in front of the house, and dive boats routinely anchor nearby.
When you can pull yourself away from the wonderful underwater experience provided by snorkeling and diving around Seahorse Gazebo you can explore above water on a two person Ocean kayak we supply.
For the nature lovers on the shore there wonderful natural sites are all around you as you discover the caves and bluffs in the surrounding area and you can cycle to them on one of the two new high quality hybrid bicycles if you wish. Bird watchers may even be treated to seeing a barn owl, blue heron, Cayman Brac parrot, frigate bird or any one of about 150 different birds spotted on the island. On occasion gorgeous Black Witch Moths and Hummingbird Hawk Moths have been spotted as well. In short, the Brac has many attractions for lovers of nature, both below the surface and above it.
While staying at the house you can arrange for my reliable, trustful and helpful manager to bring a variety of in season tropical fruit like papaya, mango, sapodilla, and others, she will also on occasion bring homemade local dishes like delicious flan. If you ask she can also arrange to bring you fresh caught fish as well as arrange trips to Little Cayman (a great dive spot) or a deep sea fishing trip.
Enjoy meals on our shaded patio and relax from exploring in one of the two hammocks on the property including one in our gazebo that has been featured in some Cayman Island commercials.TripAdvisor property ID 3478929...Read more
The cottage is located on North (leeward) side of Cayman Brac, one of the smaller of the Cayman Islands. The environment is relaxing and less touristy which make it an excellent place to enjoy the beautiful tropical surroundings. A great spot for diving and snorkeling as the calmer waters on the north side provide a great environment for observing sea-life. Tropical sandy beaches are a 10 minute drive to the southern side. Little to no crime and friendly locals.
The airport is convenient and about 3 miles away but not close enough to disturb the peace and quiet.

Miss Elo met us at the airport with a still warm-from-the-oven pineapple upside down cake and things went from yummy to beachy-keen. This cottage had everything we needed to relax and work for two weeks - especially a gorgeous view! Yoga in the gazebo, walks to Kirkconnell market for groceries, private outdoor shower, and bikes and kayaks which we never got around to using!
A car is necessary on Cayman Brac if you want to see the sights or get out to the few restaurants. Snorkeling and swimming just about in front of the cottage (wear water shoes - even at the few sandy beaches in Cayman Brac you'll find lots of rocks and ironshore covered with urchins.)
Warm breezes, Miss Elo's Cuban flan and pecan pies, great internet for work...all made for a comfortable, productive, relaxing stay for us.

If relaxation is the motive for your vacation, then this is the place! We spent most of our time in the Gazebo, lounging in the hammock. Just a few steps away is the sea, easy access, with boating and snorkeling and easy swimming. As for the accommodations, you don't need to bring anything! They have all, and then some! The kitchen is fully equipped, the sofas are comfy, lots of fresh air blowing through the house. And it's clean and sparkling! We had use of two great bikes, although we didn't use them much. The grocery is only a short distance away, no need for a car.
The island is quiet, peaceful - a great get-away. And the island-keeper, Miss Elo, is a gem. Her island dishes that she prepared for us were the best. If your vacation is for shopping, going to amusement parks, visiting people and doing night life, this is not the place for you. It is for quiet, relaxation, and getting away from fast-pace life.

Have been spending time on Cayman Brac for many years. Seahorse Cottage is the house we always return to. Cannot beat Stake Bay Front Road for quiet and close to the sea. The house keeper is wonderful, always wanting to make you stay comfortable. Each year she brought us home made goodies and local fruits. House has comfortable furniture, lots of room, perfect sea views and a great location. Can snorkel or shore dive right behind house. Fantastic coral and sea creatures every where. Higly recommend renting a car for this location. The locals are extremely friendly and truly want to share their island with you.
