Additional Location Information

Cerbere is located in the most southern part of France, where there Pyrenees goes out into the Mediterranean. The city is located on the beautiful coastline known as the Cote Vermeille extending between Colliure and the Spanish border town of Portbou . The steep hillsides goes directly into the blue Mediterranean and running on small windy roads with vineyards on the hillsides and the sea just below. The city itself is the last village before the Spanish border and has a large train station, which links both south and north . The train station leaves its mark on the village. Sometimes you can hear the sound of trains deranging which sounds a bit like a whale singing in the distant. The train station also makes it easy to get to town and you often meet travellers . The city is a working class village and therefore not as classy and touristy as its neighboring cities . But it is charming and has a warm and friendly atmosphere. The town has several restaurants, cafes, a rich good bakery, a supermarket and several small shops such as pizza bars, hairdresser , post office, newsstand , fishing shop and tourist office. In summer there is live music in the city plaza almost every night.

Cerbere has a great beach in front of the village , which is perfect for a morning swim and nice to stay at during the day. There is a very active divers club that puts its mark on the village and gives it a Jacques Costau feel. The club has installed a small football field next to the harbor, a bridge with tilt and two rafts that anyone can use . Around Cerbére there are 8-10 different small beaches - some of them with easy access and some of them more naturelle . The neighbour villages of Banuyls Sur Mer , Port Vendres and Colliure are French classics and has a lot more tourism than Cerbére . But they have charm and service that beat all destinations in Cote d'Azur . Cote Vermeille has its own wine district called Colliuere ( for red, white and rosé) and Banyuls ( the local sweet wine). The last 10 years some of France's best wine makers have become aware of the area and its terroir and this has lead to an extraordinary good wine production in the area. The food is Mediterranean cuisine with a light touch of Catalan tradition - a good mix of Barcelona and Marseille.

It is easy to get to town . From Barcelona it takes two hours by car and 2 , 5 hours by train. From Perpignan takes 40 minutes. There is a direct train service to Barcelona , Avignon , Paris, Montpellier and a local train that runs to neighboring cities. The city also has a public bus which costs 1 euro and takes you anywhere in the region.
