About Chilliwack

Chilliwack, British Columbia

In the Upper Fraser Valley, right on the border of Canada and the United States, lies Chilliwack.

Yes, the name is a little unusual. But, the area itself is an exciting mix of busy city and peaceful national parkland. Start your adventure into the heartland of British Columbia by choosing which FlipKey property you're going to rent, today.

About Chilliwack, British Columbia

Why is Chilliwack called Chilliwack? Because, in the First Nation's language, it means the 'valley of many streams'. And it's true—there are lots of streams that pop up throughout the city and surrounding landscape.

Known for originally being an agricultural community, Chilliwack has grown into a popular city. However, it's still surrounded by mountains and lakes.

Cultus Lake and Chilliwack Lake Provincial Parks are right on the doorstep, so there are plenty of opportunities to escape from bustling city life.

Throughout the city there are lots of great places to eat, especially in the historic downtown shopping district. Most of the menus are made up of local produce, so you know you're getting the best quality food possible.

If you're looking for a traditional British Columbia snack, look no further than the world famous hot smoked salmon sandwich. Freshly caught salmon, drenched in maple mustard coleslaw and spicy Sriracha mayo are tucked between two ciabattas. Yum!

What to do in Chilliwack, British Columbia

Are you a history buff? You'll love the Antiques Museum and Pioneer Village. Here you'll stroll through the old-style town and even get to see the steam machinery used back in the day.

If you’re more outdoorsy, there's plenty for you to do, too. Fishing is really popular here—one tourist even caught a 9'11" sturgeon, so give it a try and see if you can break the record!

Take this chance to try rafting and kayaking too—they’re both great ways to see the sights. Go hiking or mountain biking up through the mountains, or maybe even take a dip in Cultus lake and really indulge in the Chilliwack culture.

If you dare, take the Hell's Gate Airtram. It’s one of the most rapidly rising fully suspended trams on the continent and you'll have a great bird’s-eye view of the powerful Fraser River.

On the way up, you'll be able to see the biggest 'rush' on the Gold Rush trail.
