Villa Macina

Villa Macina is a wonderful spot to rediscover food, fragrances and colours of bygone days. Explore the hills and surrounding countryside while remaining within a stone’s throw of the Apulian sea.

This villa is a 19th century complex of traditional trulli and lamie buildings, restored using ancient techniques and modern sensitivities. The building maintains its original charm. The renovation emphasized typical features, such as stone arches, without renouncing comfort, and the whole property is decorated to a very high standard of style and comfort.

Outside is where guests will likely stay. Immersed in nature, the villa is surrounded ...Read more

Additional Location Information

Puglia (pronounced pool-ia) is one of Italy's most diverse regions. Located on the southeast of the peninsula, Puglia has found itself under Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Goth and Norman rule. Its long coastline is dotted with many cliff top fortresses, quaint fishing villages and trading ports, many of which can be seen from the villas.
Unique to the Puglia region is the traditional dwelling known as Trullo. These dry stone huts with their distinctive conical roofs are very popular among tourists. They were built by peasants using the stone removed from vineyards. The thickness of the walls, together with the small windows, makes them naturally cool in summer and warm in winter.
Villa Macina is situated in Contrada Calongo at Cisternino in the heart of Murgia and overlooks the beautiful Valle d’Itria.
This is a beautifully picturesque landscape with farms, trulli and dry-stone walls, dotted across the countryside amongst orchards and age-old olive trees. This really is breathtakingly stunning Mediterranean scenery.
From Villa Macina's strategic position between Bari and Brindisi, you can easily reach fascinating places that include historical, cultural and natural wonders. Wine villages and summer food festivals abound in this area and the sand beaches and flowering maquis of the Adriatic coast are an easy drive.- The closest airport is Brindisi Airport (60km/50min). But you can also fly to Bari Airport (80km/1h10min).- There are beautiful sea and white sandy beaches 14km far from Cisternino (about 15/20 minutes by car).- Typical restaurants and shops are in the historic center of Cisternino, 5 minutes by car or 10 minutes by bike.
