Apartments in a quiet valley on Rooibos tea estate
Apartments in a quiet valley on Rooibos tea estate
Elandsberg Eco Tourism. Here visitors can savour all the serenity and beauty nature will bestow on them all day long from sunrise to the brilliant night skies.
Our apartments are tucked in a quiet and safe valley on a Rooibos tea estate in the midst of the wealth of the Cedarberg plant life and wild flower displays. It is the ideal setting to simply relax and enjoy. However, for the slightly more energetic, free range hiking on the estate is absolutely safe and will present ever changing vitas of mountains and rolling hills. The birdlife is quite prolific – from the Black eagle with its wing span in excess of two metres to the Cape canary. The natural Fynbos is only broken by fascinating rock formations.
For those who want to learn more about Rooibos and Fynbos, safari tours are on offer. One tour concentrates on Rooibos. Guests are driven to one of the plantations where the all aspects of the plant and its cultivation is explained. They are then taken to the processing plant to experience the processing from raw material to the final product The other tour focuses on the “secret life of plants” and on the rock formations.
Our apartments consist of a fairly spacious lounge and dining room with a kitchenette; a bedroom and a bathroom. They are truly accessible for physically handicapped people, and are recommended by the AA. Each apartment has a veranda with a deck as well as a braai area which is also accessible for people in wheelchairs as are all other amenities as well as the garden which was specially adapted to for the benefit of handicapped persons. Under cover parking
To explore the West coast and Cedarberg region can be a series of exciting discoveries and fulfilment. From Elandsberg it is a mere short hop to the Atlantic ocean with it beeches and rocky shores. One of South Africa’s favourite surfing sites is on this coast, and so is one of the big gannet colonies – always intriguing to watch thousands of these beautiful birds coming and going. In season, whales often pierce the surface exhibiting their size and majesty.
Not keen on the sea? In the opposite direction the road leads to the deep Cedarberg, among the oldest mountains on earth. On offer here are spectacular views, many mountain hiking trails, awe-inspiring rock formations, rock art dating back thousands of years, and the highest vineyards and wine cellar in South Africa where truly exceptional wines are produced.
A little further to the north lies Leipoldtville, the bulb capital of the world, and close by is the Quiver tree forest where the experience is like being transferred to another planet. Still further north, but within an easy day trip from Elandsberg, is Namaqualand, internationally known for is endless displays of wild flowers in spring.
The closest town to Elandsberg is Clanwilliam, the tenth oldest town in South Africa. The last stretch of road from Cape Town to Clanwilliam is lined by citrus, mango and litchi orchards, and of course Rooibos plantations.
Truly the Cedarberg and West Coast region is a jewel, and Elandsberg Eco Tourism lies right in the heart.TripAdvisor property ID 3656232...Read more

I know, I'm not a good poet ;-)
And I afraid there are some mistakes with the English and afrikaans... Please forgive me! Both are foreign languages for me...
But I just want to thank in a special way for wonderful times. I've been there 5-6 times within the last 10 years. And there will follow some more visits!

Hearty welcome, always flowers and welcome presents in our apartment, when we arrive.Quiet apartment sheltered by huge eucalyptus trees-everything is well looked after.Cozy, spacious living room, reading material is offered, also periodicals in afrikans,e.g."weg". Enjoying most:our breakfasts on the porch overlooking the rooibos tea estate and the Cederberg mountains, also enjoying the great variety of flowers and bushes in the well designed and well kept garden and the very interesting flower tours on the tea estate guided by Chris du Plessis- a must for nature lovers-even if you hated your biology lessons in school, here you will become converted to a flower enthusiast.
We also enjoyed anette and Chris` company, the excellent dinners and the conversations in afrikans we had:very helpful to make progress in afrikans. We could also use Elandsberg apartment as a starting point and basis for our hiking tours in the Cederberge and for excursions to the atlantic ocean e.g.Lambertsbaai.
We have enjoyed our stays with anette and Chris on Elandsberg ap.4-5 days every year since 2001 and we shall return Sept.2012 like migratory birds.

We had a wonderful stay in Elandsberg! What a great place and a beautiful environment. The hospitality was outstanding! Such a warm welcome. We were there with our two children (9 and 11 years) and they loved the "Rooibos- en Bloementour". Chris told a lot about all the flowers and the rooibos and they absolutely had a great time! The accommodation was just perfect; everything you needed was there, the rooms were big enough and nicely decorated. Having dinner at the fireplace was very nice!

We stayed in a nice apartment with our teenage daughter. It was relaxing to have breakfast on the deck in front of the living room while listening to the birds! The appartment has a little kitchen where we could prepare our self brought food but our hosts also offered very delicious meals when we did not want to cook ourselves.
We enjoyed the interesting Rooibos tour and learned a lot about the Rooibos plant, the harvest and the further processing. Since then we have been offering the african Dawn Rooibos tea in our tea shop and can tell our customers many details about this tea and the land where it grows.
Annette and Chris gave us the feeling to be at home right from the beginning. Our daughter loved to listen to the many interesting things about plants, animals and their tracks and the stars which they explained to us and to drive with Chris in the front of his old 4 wheeler. It was surely the hight light of our tour through the Western Cape!
We also received directions from them for visiting the area around Clanwilliam (not the usual tourist way) which really made our day trips very special.
It was hard to leave but the very special dinner in the owl kitchen on the last evening is still present in our memories and we are sure that we will come back soon.

We have visited the estate several times during the past eight years. We have always been overwhelmed by the hospitality of Mr and Mrs du Plessis and their outstanding ability to point out and explain all the miracles of the world of Elandsberg.

I already have stayed two times with annette and Chris.I immediately felt at home in this beautiful place and as I am very much interested in nature (Fynbos and Rooibos),it was perfect for me. Annette's and Chris' hospitality are exceptional and come straight from the heart. Their knowledge about almost any topic is stunning and of course annette's cooking is absolutely delicious and her Rooibos bread is something to dream about...
I loved walking around on the estate and joining Chris' Fynbos & Rooibos tour as well as watching the stars with him.
