Additional Location Information

In the region known as La Axarquia, in the province of Malaga, at a height of 630 metres, you'll find the lively village of Competa. Friendly people, sparkling evenings, peaceful nights, spectacular sunsets, breathtaking views, great cuisine, and regional produce make Competa a special destination. Once discovered, many people return time and time again. This extraordinary village, and surrounding countryside with the mediterranean sea visible in the distance is a great location for a relaxing (or active) break!

Cómpeta is the ideal destination for visitors who like the atmosphere of a typical Andalusian village. Situated half an hour from the coast and in the foothills of the Nature Park of the Sierras Tejeda and Almijara mountain ranges, the village offers a variety of relaxing and exciting possibilities.
In Cómpeta you can enjoy nature, gastronomy and culture. A stroll through the village, dance at the local parties, visit a wine farm or hike in the Parque Natural de la Sierra Tejeda y Almijara. In addition to walking, the active tourist can also enjoy nature on horseback, in a jeep, on a mountain bike or from the air with a paraglider.

Like all villages in La Axarquía, Cómpeta has its own local dishes. But the village is really famous for its muscatel wine, produced here for centuries.
In and around the village you'll find a wide variety of bars and restaurants that offer excellent local, national and international dishes.

Our favourite things to do in and around Competa:
- Walk around and get lost in the pretty winding streets of the village
- Shop in the arts / crafts shops around town; visit the lively market on Saturday mornings
- Visit some of the other 'white villages' in the area
- Take a trip to the beach
- Visit Nerja and Almuñécar - pretty coastal towns with good shopping, restaurants and beaches
- Visit the caves near Nerja - very impressive
- Visit Malaga - beautiful and lively city with lots to see and do + great shopping
- Visit Velez Malaga: picturesque old town, big shopping centre, waterpark
- Walk in the national parks: plenty of scenic hikes from Cómpeta and surrounding villages

- Relax by the pool - there are a number of swimming pools open to the public nearby
- Enjoy the views from the roof terraces at Casa Verde. A number of the restaurants and bars also have great views.

The closest airport is Malaga and Competa is around one hour's drive from Malaga airport. You can hire a car at the airport or we can arrange a taxi transfer for you if required. There is also a public bus which runs between Competa and Malaga a number of times a day.
