“three week stay with a young family of five, first time to Fiji” Traveled with 3 kids (2, 4, & 6). Service was excellent, esp Kerry before we left. The caretaker, Ramesh, was helpful with his local knowledge. He baby-sat a few times refusing payment, cooked a lovo dinner outside our back door, bought meat from the Nadi butcher etc. He lives 2 minutes away. The property was great, kids in one room parents in the other, 2 bathrooms. Large living area ideal for a long visit, fully equipped kitchen, dishwasher & laundry. Never ran out of hot water. After each day our tired kids watched a movie as we admired the view & cooked dinner. A car is essential. With baby seat our wagon cost $FJ 93/day. Sigatoka is a 30 min drive, beautiful Natadola Beach 1 hr, Pacific Harbor 1 hr. Petrol stations are cash only (outside major shops/supermarkets, it's a cash economy). Driving is safe but watch for roaming animals & speed cameras! Sigatoka now has a supermarket comparable to Nadi. Cooking was easier for adults.. a farmer selling spices at Sigatoka market gave us amazing dahl & curry recipes. Meal options were more boring for our kids but they coped & loved the pineapples, bananas. All up, Totoka Kalou was excellent for what we wanted to do. Here's what we got up to: First week we drove/walked down to Maui Bay to swim in the pool, snorkel, horse ride & climb fallen coconut trees. Kids loved the jetty, watching fish. 2nd week we ventured afield & went to resorts. Only the Outrigger didn't let us in. Our kids preferred Naviti, we the Warwick (snorkeling). Resorts were free to enter but on our last day Warwick said we should be paying $20/day each, maybe because school holidays had started? Third week was the most fun. We picked up hitchhikers, were invited into their villages to play rugby, kids visited a school. We met a village chief & had our best meal in Fiji cooked by his wife in their house! Take root kava when you are invited anywhere. A horse ride to the waterfall & 3-hr dinner conversation with the Eco Cafe owner were highlights

“Second Stay...still perfect!” This was our second stay at this wonderful hide away. Everything was again, just perfect. The children had a great time, we were spoilt by the staff and Patrick the owner. He went out of his way to ensure our stay was as perfect as the first. This is the only place to stay in Fiji. Private, great value for money and nothing was too much trouble. We have booked again for our third stay next year.....can't wait!

Totoka Kalou (Fijian for Beautiful Spirit)
Great family destination

We holidayed with our blended family and grand daughter, four adults, 2 children and an infant. Totoka Kalou was a fantastic family holiday destination. Ramesh was so amazingly accommodating, he stayed in contact almost daily to check on us and that we had what we needed, he organised for us to visit the local school and he organised the most delicious lovo for us one dinner. He had truly extended himself when we were very late getting to the house on the first night (that is a whole other story)and even leant us a phone for the duration of our stay. The house is very comfortable and the views outstanding. I wouldn't want to be there without a car though and think the steep gravel driveway is probably more suited to a four wheel drive. The pool and the club house are down the very steep long driveway and across the road but we spent quite a lot of time there - just remember to bring drinks and a picnic. Even at low tide the lagoon and the jetty were also a strong draw card for us, especially as it gave us more opportunity to chat and interact with the locals. The beauty of staying in a house rather than a resort is you get to choose which resort and facilities you might want to enjoy on any given occasion yet have the privilege of being able to interact with the locals in a much more intimate way. There is plenty of space in the house for a very large family - so much better than a small hotel room. We were able to enjoy a quiet night in when we wanted it and when we felt like being out and about there are plenty of resorts close by. The Hideaway was probably the most welcoming and the whole resort is relaxed and low key, although the staff at Naviti remembered us when we returned for our second breakfast. Overall we had an incredible and memorable holiday. Although this holiday included our large and multigenerational family I would love to return with just my husband or maybe some friends.see more
Coral Cove Beach Front Private Villa
Wow!!!

I can't say enough about Coral Cove.. It is truly a special part of the world! From having absolute beachfront, a private beach, amazing coral straight off the sand, huge pool, kayaks, snorkelling gear and the most lovely staff who are there to tend your every need- the hotels of Denarau Island can't compete!! Pinky and Shobby's cooking was brilliant (Shobby's coconut fish curry and Pinky's chicken and vegetable samosas- wow!). Azeel and Vinney who tended the garden, climbed the coconut trees and took us fishing to the best spots in the area - simply out of the goodness of their heart! How refreshing!! Patrick the owner who also popped in to say hi is also a lovely guy- so you are well and truly in good hands! Some advice: there are a couple of other food/accommodation establishments in the maui bay area who may offer to get your shopping/meat/seafood and book your tours. My recommendation is to stick with Pinky and Patricks (coral cove) assistance here, that way you won't be "overcharged" and you will get the best recommendations and options!!!see more
