“A fantastic Irish experience!” We loved our stay in the Thatched cottage- it is not luxurious, but we were not looking for luxury. We enjoy walking and the views were spectacular. The Thatched Cottage was the perfect base for our holiday. We could dry out our socks in front of the peat fire when it rained (which it did quite a lot) and it was quite a short drive into Westport where we enjoyed a drop of the black stuff and some fantastic music of an evening. Our hosts could not have been more friendly and accommodating. I would heartily recommend the Thatched Cottage to anyone who is after an authentic experience and who doesn't mind uneven floors!

“Great for fishing” Cottage was basic but funcional, set in a quiet, beautiful area close to the lake. Great place to get away from it all.

“Family is forever.” Paddy is the most gracious host, the house was clean and well stocked with all the amenities we needed. All the rooms were spacious and the kids loved climbing the rocks in the back. What a view. I should write a terrible review so the house will be available at a cheaper rate next year but I can't. Beautiful house and great local, loved it. Jim G

“Beautiful, Warm & Welcoming” We set out on a journey to discover our heritage and see if we had any living relatives in Co. Mayo Ireland. We arrived on an unseasonably cold and blustery day so when we opened the door to the house and were welcomed by the warmth of heat we were delighted. Teach Mo Chroi' was our home base but turned out to be so much more. It is truly a lovely home. The rooms were very spacious and the beds incredibly comfortable after a long day of touring. The kids enjoyed playing soccer and especially the tire swing, but the highlight was watching the fathers and sons play basketball together. It turned out to be one of the best family vacations we've ever taken. There were so many places to visit in the area; a boat ride from ashford Castle to the island was among our favorites. But don't miss Ballintubber abbey, Achill Island, Climbing Croagh Patrick and especially the nightlife in Westport town. Everything was so easily accessible and convenient. The home is furnished with everything you could possibly need or want for cooking, and with so many Satellite channels it was easy to keep the kids entertained. Maura our hostess was warm and friendly and helpful. We were especially impressed with how clean the home was when we arrived and how easily it handled our large group of 11 adults & children. I will recommend the home to others and hope we can find another excuse to visit again in the future. If there was any disappointment it was that we were unable to find any living relatives but our visit to Mayo and Teach Mo Chroi more than made up for that disappointment.

A Glorious Holiday

From the initial booking, throughout the holiday and until our eventual departure the service we received was exeplorary The house was superbly comfortable and large enough for eleven of us (10 adults plus one teenager) to holiday incomfort. The location was well known to me as I am a fisherman and have fished loughs Cullen and Conn for over 30 yeas staying in a variety of local hotels, rented houses and mobile homes. This was by far the best experience ever. Every minute was enjoyable, whether spent inthe house and its garden, walking down to the lakeshore, or driving around the beutiful lakes and mountains in the area. A drive into Castlebar, Westport, Nephin Beag, Connemara, Lenane - a visit to Clare Island, Achille Island (and its beutiful cliffs and beaches - the options are endless. My wife and I were very aware of the area and love it, but this was an opportunity for us to spend a week with our adult children (and one teenage grandchild). Our children have travelled the world and potentially may not have appreciated the area quite as much as Therese and I, after all I have banged on about it for most of their live and maybe they were purely placating us by joining us for a week? - Wrong! Each and every one of them has been completely converted and want to go back next year as they love the house and the area and quite rightly state that they have only scratched the surface and want to experience more. We will be in contact again soon with Paddy and Emer to arrange next years holiday.see more

Great Family House

A great family house. Lots of room and very well appointed. We had eleven people staying there and never felt crowded. It is isolated which has pros and cons. The kids could yell and play without anyone worrying, but it is fifteen minutes from Westport and a major grocery. The only pub within walking distance has closed. We had a fantastic experience there.see more
